🎨 Art Girlfriend’s birthday present

My girlfriend surprised me with this painting since the R46 is retiring soon.

This has always been my favorite view- it’s etched in my mind forever. R46 flying over the east river, the Brooklyn Bridge through the window.

My heart is so happy I can’t even explain it. It’s like she took the image from my mind and painted it. (She says it’s unfinished so I’ll share the finished painting soon)

📸 Photo Today, one of the closed exits to the 50th St C/E was opened on the street for construction work.

The exit is located on the corner of 52nd Street and 8th Avenue, and is usually hidden from view by a gate. I walked by today and noticed that the gate was up, which is extremely uncommon.

This particular exit was closed in the early 90s, along with several others at the same station. Pretty neat.

Sad to see car 7777 goes... back into Manhattan. I'll see it soon, maybe if I can go to Kingsbridge Rd station to spot it from the park.

🐸 Meme I saw the C service changes for this weekend and for some reason I had to make this

Context: the C is running via the 6th Av trunk line south of 53rd this weekend, aka with the orange lines (the D and F during the weekend, also where the B and M run during weekdays) Therefore Orange C. My brain is like "wow orange C like Hi-C lol" so I made this.

I prioritized street names over numbers when possible (such as "Jackson Heights" over "82nd street", just to get a little variety. I hope you enjoy listening!

FINALLY! After I spotted the 4 train heading to Woodlawn, I went to Kingsbridge Rd station and waited for the downtown train. I rode it from the start to end and waited for 7777 to appear at Ultica-Av.

I'm almost halfway done with A division... only the 1, 3, 5 (75% due to being suspended), and 6. The 2, 4, and 7 are 100% completed.

B division... that'll take longer to complete, knowing some of the lines are the LONGEST ones in NYCS.

📸 Photo R32/R38 in Coney Island Yard (Oct 2025)

Seeing these two models together (specifically with an R32 other than 3360-3361 which has blue doors) reminds me a lot of the late 2000s, especially as the R38s were retiring and they ran with R32s to make up for retired R38 cars. Photo taken by me from a passing F train on 10/10/2025.

❓ Question Why didn't the MTA choose to continue with the MELCO electronic signs in the R68?

To me it doesn't seem plausible to not roll these out in every r68 except for the reasons of maybe cost and installation? From what I've seen these screens could be really helpful to riders if there's a random reroute so they know where their train is going if their conductor is completely inaudible and with the fact that theres probably no way an mta employee would change all the roll signs not to mention potential conquestors.

❓ Question Cellular Service in East River Tunnels?

Hi everyone, I’m a reverse commuter and because of where I live in Manhattan, I usually use Grand Central on my commutes. The 63rd St tunnels for the LIRR have cellular (I have AT&T FWIW) but of course the East River Tunnels out of Penn didn’t if you don’t have Verizon. Today coming home from work I took a Penn bound LIRR train due to timing and was shocked to see I had full 5G the entire time in the tunnels, literally the first time in all my years of riding the LIRR that I’ve seen it.

When the heck did this happen? I’m assuming it has to do with the Amtrak tunnel refurbishments? Tried looking it up but couldn’t find anything on it, was just shocked and had to double-check I was on the right train!
