Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo NC 12 Northbound is Open

A lot of eager folks heading North on NC12. No timelines when Southbound traffic will be restored.

That’s great! I’m bummed about our trip down - supposed to arrive Saturday but absolutely no one can call it for sure. Can’t cancel and collect the insurance that we paid for unless the road isn’t available on Saturday morning at 10. Supposed to check in at 4 that day. You’d think there would be a better way - like call it mid week and give us a chance to make other arrangements.

I’m sure it will be open for southbound traffic by Saturday. Plan to come. They are just doing northbound only until everyone who was stuck can get off the island. Once that has happened they are putting a portable traffic light at the one way detour and alternating northbound and southbound. It will probably be no later than Friday in my guess, possibly Thurs.

I hope so. Sounded like not going to be open to visitors, only residents but fingers crossed!

You’re good if you’re going Saturday! I just saw that all restrictions lift, including visitors, on Thursday morning.

Looks like you're going to be dealing with the insurance company. NCDOT just posted the road won't open to everyone until Oct. 1.

Im happy for these remaining people. Ive been out and about in tri village the past 3 days and seeing the line of traffic on the side of the road made me feel bad for them. Seeing a specific car only move a quarter mile in 24 hours but there were port a pottys placed around and volunteers riding around in golf carts handing out bottles of water and hot dogs.

I saw a few hundred cars leave in the first hour or so, but now there’s almost nobody.looks like things are easing up unless people don’t know the road is open yet.
