Alchemical Flask Something something “rich people cosplaying as the poor,” something something.
- someone who is in university (for a different major) currently and knows art students

i dont think she ever talks about being a struggling artist, she wants to be known for getting there with her actual talents instead of it being a fluke and that she is scared of eventually losing the fame and becoming irrelevant
i think most of the fear and worry comes from the fact that her parents dont like the fact that she decided to pursue art instead of becoming a doctor or an engineer

"I'm a broke student, I'll take what I can get."
"This should cover some student debt." (full ride, btw)
"Art supplies aren't cheap."
"This should help with rent."

Ngl that kinda conflicts with doing the ritual.
>wants to be well known because of the work she’s put into her art
>wants to use magic to make her art well known.I understand the second part just the motivations for doing the ritual kinda conflict
If I were the devs I would probably amend her motivations to be more in line with repairing the bond with her family.

u/Toasty385 1h ago
I mean isn't her whole point that she believes her art is fantastic and worthy of fame. She just believes the "right" person hasn't seen her art, so the ritual is to wish for that chance for the "right" person to see her art.
From what I understood it's less about repairing the bond and more about proving herself to her family, hence repairing it at once AND be "deserving" of the bond being repaired.

She has a voiceline stating that she doesn’t want to wish for fame or for people to like her work, just to expose it to get it out there so that she can have the opportunity to show what she can do. That feels odd to me since the whole gallery and scholarship thing shows that she’s already well on her way and is kinda already getting those opportunities left and right.

Right? Its not like shes in her 40's and still an unknown artist. I feel like doing the ritual is a bit of an extreme she didnt need to turn to yet.

u/KingGamerlol 1h ago
Hidden King has an intro line for her that’s basically like “complete the ritual, and then sink or swim based on your own skill alone”

u/godietron 21m ago
I saw some people say that her motives should be to paint the ritual itself, as in her biggest showcase and the thing to be known for would be by painting all over the cursed apple while the ritual is happening, the wish being a side thing rather than her whole focus
1
u/ChiefSitsOnCactus 11m ago
this is honestly a way cooler idea and even ties into her gameplay where shes literally painting the other characters cmon valve
1
u/duckwithahat 41m ago
Sounds like she is wishing for Deviant art or the equivalent of IMDB but for art.
6
u/Recent-Potential-340 1h ago
but she makes it pretty clear that she doesn't want to use the ritual to be well known, she wants to use the ritual to be given a chance to show off her art, whether people like it or not she doesn't care, she just wants to fail or succeed on her own merit and not because she never got the chance to be judged
1
u/TheWingofWild 1h ago
But that also kinda conflicts with her backstory as well. She is already being shown at New York galleries. She is getting that exposure she wants and she isn’t even out of uni.
So the ritual then is just for even more exposure?

I think it’s pretty clear she has major issues with her self worth due to her parents and isn’t able to see she already is successful. I think she’s a similar case to Dynamo where their canon arc will probably be realizing they didn’t need the ritual, and that the true problem they needed to resolve was their insecurities

u/Alexis_BBB 41m ago
I don't see that as Dynamo's insecurity as his problem is a physical supernatural one. Like he needs the ritual to be human again.
As for our struggling artist, like every artist I know, she just needs to grow out of it. Her issues can be solved without the ritual.
1
u/Tom_F_0olery 38m ago
Dynamo’s whole motivation is that he feels that his wife deserves a human body to love, while it’s heavily implied that his wife already loves him for who he is and would much rather have him as he is now than risk his life for this.
My whole point is literally that she doesn’t need the ritual, and that this is true for multiple of the characters in this game already

She says she doesn't want to use magic to make her art well known, she is using the notoriety of the event to get eyes on the art that she makes in it, kinda like a publicity stunt
3
u/Quijas00 1h ago
But she doesn’t want to repair the bond with her family?
Changing her current motivation to that would just make her more similar to Paige.

It feels better if you dont take her so seriously. I also disliked Danny but not every character's gonna be as serious as Seven and GT

u/TheWingofWild 1h ago
You’re clearly forgetting that REM has the darkest backstory of them all (it’s dark because you close your eyes to sleep).

u/sumtngr88 1h ago
Grimdark-esque character. The helpers, they did lots of things.

u/Mr-Gepetto 1h ago
Like stealing all the sinners on the map, now instead of 1 starving artist, we have 11 starving players, or 10 if a player manages to devour rem after the theft

What? This is such a dumb take. Nobody complains about Lash, although he is also putting on a persona. Danny might not conduct himself in a serious manner, but he is a fleshed(hehe) out character. He is a brainwashed skeleton salesman. It's a solid concept

When all the posts that hate on Violet for misogynistic and racist reasons so I can’t hate her because I know people like her and they’re all insufferable 😔

I wish she was also in the ritual to see the insane shit going on with strange characters. Both for exposure but also to see what a god summoning looks like and honestly both the archmother and hidden kings idols in the middle of battle would go crazy as a painting
2
u/TheWingofWild 42m ago
It would be so much cooler than her current lore if she was in an art block and joined the ritual out of some desperate attempt to get inspired.

She’s gonna be like Cursed Apple Banksy after her art summons the Patrons

Am I jealous that a video game character is more successful than me? Perhaps
(Damn you lack of NSF funding!)

You can tell the people in this thread don't really get how academic scholarships work, like I'm speaking from a humanities perspective and not arts but scholarships and grants don't exactly cover rent, cost of living, etc. anddd just because you're getting exposure in something prestigious (like a journal or gallery) doesn't mean you're making much, if any, money from it consistently
3
u/TheWingofWild 32m ago edited 29m ago
I’ll be the first to admit that not all academic scholarships cover rent (although some do). That being said the joke is more that Violet is doing a LOT better off than most of her peers.
Coming at it from a STEM perspective, it’s like getting your tuition/books paid for + having your research paper presented at a physics conference. Most students would kill for that opportunity, even if it doesn’t amount to much.
3
u/boniley 26m ago
That's fair, and I mean I know we're in the circlejerk sub so I get the joke here, but at least from my experience ppl assume you're well off if you got in on a full ride when usually it's because you worked your ass off because you know you otherwise couldn't afford it
Though the context is certainly different for arts where, while there is an element of skill and hard work and talent, it's also a luck game and getting noticed at the right time to be successful in professional arts spaces
I think it's an interesting flaw that Violet has though otherwise, in portraying herself as super badly off - though maybe our perspectives are skewed because half the cast is homeless otherwise
(Also sorry cause tone can be hard to read I wasn't complaining or arguing with your meme, it's a good joke lol)

I cant even imagine being so lore brained about a fucking MOBA. People complaining about her lore/personality have got to be some of the most privileged, out of touch people on earth. Talk about first world problems lmao.

Given that she's working for the Patrons for exposure I think she's forgotten that she can charge for her art.
What unsupportive parents does to a person ig.
