80s Slotta Chaos Warriors for Advanced Heroquest

Post image

Finished painting up these bad boys to use in Heroquest as Chaos Warriors. I'll be painting up some Chaos Thugs and a Chaos Champion next. I wanted the Warriors to be themed around each Chaos God so from left to right its Khorne, Slaanesh, Nurgle, Tzeentch. The thugs will all be neutral, muted, metallic and I'm thinking the Champion may be a Chaos undivided type deal, or just painted to look really mean, not sure. Tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

This is a part of a larger Advanced Heroquest project where I am looking to have an oldhammer unit for every profile as well as no repeat models within that model group (so all my Skaven slave rats look different for instance).

Dam these are sick you got a recipe for the red?

Army Painter Dragon Red > Army Painter Red Tone Wash > Layer of Dragon Red back on top > Highlight blend of any good orange you have > Edge highlight of any good yellow you have

It's not too many steps honestly, just gotta make sure you don't override the wash in the recesses too harshly and that you make your subsequent highlight layers not overtake the dragon red.

Peak drybrushing. Giving me cosy eighties WD flashbacks.

Where is there dry brushing?

The only dry brushing was on the base. :)

The edges/ridges. That's how I would have done that.

Why are they all so grumpy when they look so fabulous?

Amazing work, love ‘em!

I really like that Nurgle chaos warrior, it looks like his armor is mimicking an orc.

Yessss. Wonderful! I normally don't like nurgle but that green is outstanding.

Khorne, Slaanesh, Nurgle and Tzeentch? Note that the visor of the Green guy is literally in the shape of Khorne’s sigil.

I see what you're saying, but I think that's just the way my highlights accentuated the grill helmet type. His character card in the original Dungeon quest had him in green armor, so in tribute to that old art he got stuck with green haha. Red was already taken from heroquest chaos warriors.

Google Thargrim the Dark Lord to see him

They are excellent!

Didn't realise the Chaos Warriors are the same as the slotta base ones. I've jusf painted the one on the right but nowhere near as good.

Left most is from Heroquest, the two in the middle are slotta metal miniatures from Dungeonquest 1st edition, the one on the far right is from Talisman 3rd edition. At least that's where I sourced each model haha. I chopped off the slots and had custom Heroquest style bases to plop them on.

the middle two guys look like revised Lords of Battle, 13 and 27 here: http://www.solegends.com/citcat1988/cat1988p014-00.htm

that's cool

Thanks. Someone else said about it coming with the paint set which must be where my two came from.

I'm pretty sure the right hand one also came in the paint starter set I had when I first got into the hobby. That and one of the old monopose marines.

The paint scheme I managed at the time was... Somewhat different to yours
