About 10 years ago I partnered with the local vocational center, even did a talk in front of the graduating class. I offered $20 an hour to start with health insurance and vacation and full company training to become an irrigation service tech or install Foreman. Top Techs and Foreman make between 60k and 70k. I told them that promotions to a tech or Foreman were the minute they showed enough skill and effort to work as a tech or a foreman you will put in the position.
Zero responses.
Then I ran Craigslist ads in Northern Michigan, Eastern Ohio, Western PA and upstate New York offering any experienced Tech or Foreman top wages plus the benefits and help them move.
Zero responses.
Even the majority of the people who we did employ didn't want to work, they just wanted to get paid while they did it. The only reliable source of Labor were Hispanics either h2b workers or first generation immigrants.
