Signs on phone at game?

Was at the game yesterday and they kept showing students phones with messages on them on the jumbotron and can't figure out why they just didn't write them on posterboard. I'm sure it's an obvious reason I just couldn't figure it out.

It’s just a thing us youngins do.

Easier to whip your phone out, type out a message, blow it up, and hold it on your forehead.

It started in the club/dj/party scene as a way to communicate to someone across the room. Now it’s just a thing. Easier than making a physical sign and can be more spontaneous or on the nose in the moment.
