Moving the pots exposed a problem in my plant notes

I had an old entry in my plant care notes labelled "Plant by the window." There had been only one plant there when I wrote it. After I rearranged the pots, three plants stood by that window. The old entry no longer made it clear which plant I had meant.

I gave each plant a number on a small label in its pot. Each entry had the plant number, date, room and what I had checked or done. I wrote "Soil still damp, didn't water" under one number. I repotted one plant during the cleanup, moved its label with it and added that change to its record.

Some old entries had descriptions I recognised or mentioned moves I remembered. I matched those entries to the plants myself. For the text cleanup, I gave the EvoX AI agent those entries and my number assignments. I asked it to use the new format without changing the dates or wording. I checked the result against the old notes and left the entries that only said "window" unassigned.

I moved the pots again later and added their new locations under the existing numbers. During the next soil check, I read the label, found the matching record and added a new observation. The earlier observations were still together under the same number.

How do you organize things that are used frequently but don't have an obvious storage spot?

The hardest things to organize aren't always the items you rarely use. Sometimes they're the things you reach for constantly but don't have an obvious place to return to.

They end up on counters, chairs, or whatever surface happens to be nearby.

I wonder how people solve this in rooms where the items vary a lot in size and shape.

A home gym is a good example: handles, bands, collars, small accessories, and cleaning supplies all need to be accessible without getting in the way.

What's your best solution for keeping frequently used items easy to grab without letting them spread everywhere?

Using an IKEA Billy bookcase for other things?

I'm trying to decide what configurations I want for the Billy. Solid doors, glass doors, half half or even no doors. I want to use them for everything around my house. I realize I need vertical storage. Anyone use them for pet food, treats, pantry, storing dishes, clothing, underwear, etc etc. What do you use them for and did you get inserts to organize them?

The shoes have a designated spot. Apparently, so does the cat.

The rotating shoe rack gets a little corner. The cat gets the entire bed. Seems like a fair arrangement 😂

Curious where everyone keeps their everyday shoes, bedroom, closet, or by the front door? Especially when you don't have much of an entryway..

Alternative storage for this area.

Forgot the picture. 😅

Kids use all of this nearly daily. I hate how this looks.

Give me alll the options to make this look more appealing.

Far right - several types of paper/coloringbooks

Middle - different mediums (crayons, pens, markers, sharpies, colored pencils, watercolor, paint markers)

Far left - glue/slime/different craft materials.

How would you organize this small kitchen cabinet?

As you can see I have a shelf buried in there. It might be too much food, sure, but it’s also just a small space. The shelves can be moved higher or lower, if it helps. Open to any and all suggestions.

Dual Office / Craft Room

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

This room has been the office for me and my husband. Then he started working out of the house, we had a baby, and now this is primarily my office, craft space, and a place for the general home admission tasks to take place. I am not tied to any of the furniture but I do need the dual monitor set up for work. Please help recommend how to improve the space as working in here now just makes me anxious.

I know decluttering will go a long way and most of of the books, bookcase items, and plastic totes are going away by next week.

Thanks in advance for the help!

How do you sort miniature parts without making setup take forever?

Tiny-part projects create a weird organization trap: sorting everything perfectly can take so long that starting the actual build feels like a whole second task. Keeping everything mixed is worse once several similar pieces are involved, but sorting every bag by color or size can separate parts that belong to the same step. A lighter system seems more practical, especially if the workspace has to be cleared between sessions. For miniature kits, what sorting rule keeps parts easy to find without turning prep into half the hobby?

Looking for ideas to maximize and organize my closet!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm looking for advice on how to make the most of my closet space and organize it better. I'm open to changing the current setup, including removing or adding shelves, changing the layout, etc.

My closet currently has one full-length hanging rod that I need to keep, since all of my hanging clothes take up the entire rod. There are also two shelves: one is currently full of my hoodies (I have around 15, mostly thick ones, i know its a lot), while the other is pretty much empty.

The closet is approximately 48" wide, 21.5" deep, and 71" tall.

I do have a separate dresser where I keep my undergarments, pajamas, jeans, sweatpants, shorts, leggings, and other similar items. Ideally, I'd love to move some of those clothes into my closet so I can free up space in my dresser and have more of my clothing organized in one place. The best case scenario for me would be to be able to remove my dresser fully as it takes up space in my small room.

I don't need to store shoes or bags in the closet since I have a separate space for those.

I'm open to pretty much any suggestions, whether that means adding shelves, installing drawers or cubbies, rearranging the existing shelves, or completely changing the setup.

TIA for any suggestions!

What should I look for in a first miniature kit if I have to pack it away between sessions?

I want to try a miniature kit for the first time, but I don’t have a permanent craft table. Whatever I pick needs to be easy to pause halfway through and pack up without losing tiny pieces or forgetting where I left off. I’m realizing a smaller kit isn’t automatically easier if it has dozens of nearly identical parts or steps that need perfect alignment. For anyone who does detailed crafts in a shared or limited space, what would you look for in a beginner kit—fewer loose pieces, clearer breaks between steps, easier-to-label components, or something else that makes it manageable over multiple sessions?

Does your calendar include a 'leave by' time?

A 4 p.m. appointment can look like a 4 p.m. problem... until you still need to find the bag, get out the door and travel there 🙂

A small calendar idea: keep three times together.

  • Starts at: the actual appointment or activity time.
  • Leave by: travel time plus whatever arrival margin you need.
  • Get ready at: a little earlier, so leaving doesn't start with looking for everything.

For example, something starting at 4 might mean leaving at 3:30 and starting to get ready at 3:20. Those are just example times; the useful bit is working backward from your own journey.

If another person handles the trip, agree who is doing it rather than assuming the calendar entry tells them. A simple note in the calendar you already use is enough. No need to set up an entirely new planner for it.

Do you put a 'leave by' time in your calendar, or have another way of making the getting-there part less of a surprise?

How do you organize tiny kit parts without sorting everything to death?

Miniature kits create a weird organization problem because perfectly sorting every tiny piece can take almost as much mental energy as the build itself. Sorting by color looks neat, but it can separate parts that belong to the same step. Sorting by size can make similar looking pieces harder to tell apart. Keeping everything in the original bags preserves the manufacturer’s grouping, but it usually gets messy once several bags are open. A more practical system seems to be organizing around whatever makes it easiest to restart after a break, especially if the table has to be cleared between sessions. That could mean one tray for the active step and leaving unopened parts alone until they’re needed. So those, who actually work on small-part projects over several sessions, what sorting rule makes things easy to find without creating a second hobby called organizing?

My understairs cupboard

I hate the way this was built. With the electrics and plugs and things on one side and the fusebox and meters on the other side and that little nook at the back I don't know how to make this space efficient.

I don't see any practical way to insert shelves or any storage options - maaaaybe some hooks from the walls or ceiling at a push? But with all the wiring everywhere thats likely a bit dangerous.

So at the moment it has kind of become an inside shed because it can't do much else.

Any ideas?

How to organize closets for 3 kids?

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

I live in a very small apartment, and my two kids are in one room. I’m due in a couple of months and I wanted to start organizing the closets. I don’t even have room for a dresser in there. It’s a single twin bed for my older child, and I have a space for a crib for my toddler.

My plan is that when the baby is big enough to move into the kids room, the baby will sleep in the crib, my two other kids will have a bunkbed

I hate Apartment living😭

Anyway, please ignore how their closets look right now, I am six months pregnant and always tired🤣 I have these closets from IKEA with sliding doors. In picture number two, my top shelf are for my Wigs, my second shelf if I have some towels, the basket some of their swim stuff, and some baby onesies that I started to clean.

The middle shelf is my eldest stuff- I have skirts, tops and sweaters folded. The shelf under is my toddler, same set up. The bottom shelf is empty for the most part. The pullout drawer is for my eldest one’s pajamas.

In picture number one, I have their dresses hanging, the top shelf I put toilet paper and some costumes, on the bottom shelf is now clean and empty(this picture was taken a few days ago).

I have to figure out where I’m going to be putting all my baby stuff, onesies, and diapers

Any advice welcome

Lifting the trunk floor panel dumped loose soil right into the hinge gap

Lifting the rear floor board to grab jumper cables dropped dry potting soil straight into the fuzzy carpet hinge. A plastic nursery flat tipped over on the drive home, and the flat mat in the back of the car did nothing to keep dirt off the sidewall trim. Every corner turn shifted the pots against the wheel humps, grinding damp mulch deep into the side fabric where the hand vacuum barely reaches. My sister suggested a tub-style cargo liner, but I can't tell if raised perimeter lips actually collapse out of the way when sliding flat storage crates over the threshold. Now the soil is worked into the folding seam and won't brush out.

Kitchen Towel/Dishcloth Storage

My husband and I recently downsized to a small cottage home. The tiny kitchen has very little in the way of storage because the drawers are so shallow (3inch depth). So I only use those for utensils.
I have been struggling to find a good storage solution for the kitchen towels and dishcloths. We used to have a deep drawer in the kitchen of our previous home where they all fit.
Can anyone please share their alternative storage solutions that don’t involve a drawer or linen closet?

My pod drawer

Had an empty drawer that wasn't really being used, so I turned it into a dedicated pod drawer. Used some adjustable dividers to separate out the different roasts, and they're easy enough to move around when I pick up new ones. Honestly probably the most organized part of my kitchen right now lol.

Got this little scalloped front-facing bookshelf for the playroom corner. Makes it so much easier for the kids to actually see their books.

How to organize/store medicines

Post image
37 Upvotes

I previously had all our medicines in a drawer in our main bathroom, as part of baby-proofing they got dumped into this basket and stored in a closet in our basement.

I like that everything is together in one spot, but it is a nightmare to have to pull everything out to find something

Ideas for how to better store medicines? Varying sizes, and inventory constantly changing
