Missing Cat?

Post image

sorry not sure if this sub allows this but seen this quite young cat by Walkley Station at around 5:50pm and wasn’t sure if it was lost. It’s just playing around with something likely in the grass. I haven’t really seen any wild cats in or around the area and it seems like a terrible spot to let them roam free as it’s quite busy with traffic. perhaps it is wild- but i’m not sure.

Hi there!

You can try reaching out to the Ottawa and Valley Lost Pet Network on Facebook or messenger. They post lost and found pets, and you can monitor for any lost pets that might be the pet you found. You can also report the pet as found with the Ottawa Humane Society. If any lost pets are reported by someone, they will be alerted to contact you if the pet matches your description. Both of those organizations also have excellent found pet resources.

You can try posting on apps like Kijiji, NextDoor, PawBoost, Reddit Community Groups and Facebook community groups. Putting up posters in the area and around helps to create awareness and lets your neighbors know a pet was found in the area. The more awareness the better! Ensure you have your contact information, a photo of the pet, general area they escaped from and any other relevant details!

Vet clinics, the Humane Society and some rescues can scan for a microchip too! Really hope you find their home if they have one or can get them to safety if they don’t 😊

It is a Calico cat, which is a cat that has orange, black and white fur. They are almost exclusively female, as the genes required to express black and orange fur are on the X chromosome, females having XX pairs and males XY.

As for why I believe she is a feral cat, it is a confluence of factors.

She was found in an area unlikely to have roaming domestic cats.

She is a visibly youthful cat, certainly an adult, but not more than a few years old at the most.

5:50 PM at this time of year is right before sunset, also quite cold.

So, when we add all that up, what I see is a young female cat with her full winter coat, in an area that is neither a transitional space for cats, nor a place a cat could live, right before sunset, eyes wide but posture relaxed.

She is getting ready to hunt.
