Update to Our Job Posting Rules: Recruiters Must Be Licensed

Edited to add: Abusive or threatening modmail will result in a permanent ban from the subreddit.

I’m making a small update to our job posting rules to help protect job seekers and keep this subreddit a safe place to find employment opportunities.

Going forward, job posts from recruiters will only be allowed if the recruiter or recruiting agency is properly licensed in Ontario, where a licence is required.

Before posting, recruiters must contact me through modmail and provide their recruiting agency’s information and licence details.

Please wait until I’ve reviewed your information before submitting any job posts.

All existing job posting rules still apply including the requirement to provide the hiring company’s name, salary or hourly wage and other relevant details about the position. Being a licensed recruiter does not exempt you from these requirements.
Posts that do not meet our requirements may be removed.

Thank you for your understanding!

Looking for Work still looking for job

hi everyone... i made a post two months ago when i lost my job and regret to inform you all that there's still been no luck. to everyone that told me to get ei, thank you. i am now on ei but it is barely liveable since i was making only minimum wage full time. i am now moving to a much cheaper apartment to make ends meet and my sick sister will be going back home because i can no longer afford to take care of us. i am distraught bc she is the only family i had here and was my only support and comfort but it is better for her there. i am just so tired and defeated that i dont know what to do. i have a stem bachelors degree and a year of work experience. i am applying for even the most basic entry level jobs. I dont know what im doing wrong but i need help before i can no longer go on anymore. please if anyone is listening that can help me, i am honest and a hardworker, i am learning french everyday and am fluent in english. if youre going to make fun of me go ahead but its not going to stop me from asking

edit: thanks everyone. i was at a really low point when i made this. i really appreciate!

Don't forget that posts in subreddits like these are skewed towards negativity! The job market is rough but it isn't as hopeless as portrayed in the subreddit.

A month or two ago I was on this sub writing comments and complaining about how bad the job market was for someone with my credentials, but I did manage to land a job after two months of only working part time for a day and a half each week.

I did not enjoy my free time at all with the job application stress. I kept getting rejection after rejection and my mental health went into the shitter. I often browsed through this sub and despaired about the situation I was in. I'll be honest, the sub did not help me at all, far from it. That's why I'm writing this post for others who may be in the same boat.

When I previously wrote looking for advice, commenters said that my bachelors and masters degree were 'useless' and that I should have picked something else, that there are no jobs in government, despair be upon me etc. At my low point, these comments hit hard, and they didn't actually help me in any way.

Here's a prime example of a comment that got upvoted:

Unfortunately, a Masters degree in [x] and [y] really doesn't qualify you for much except for government and policy jobs, of which there are hundreds of qualified applicants and few jobs. There is no market for this kind of degree.

Well meaning advice, but turned out to be false.

A few weeks ago I got my breakthrough and landed a job, with much higher pay (nearly six figures) and advancement opportunities in the government. Turns out there is a market for someone with my skillset after all! It is incredibly cliche to say this, but it really does just take one yes to turn things around. Keep on hustling, networking and applying for jobs, eventually you will get something. The only mistake we can make is giving up on sending in apps or meeting people in whatever industry you're trying to make it in.

I wish y'all the very best, don't give up!

Starting soon at NTT Data Ottawa (Google Fiber campaign) – What’s the work culture, growth, and benefits actually like?

Hey everyone,

I recently got an offer for the full-time on-site Customer Service Representative role at the NTT Data office in Ottawa on Robertson Road, specifically for the Google Fiber program starting next month.
I wanted to hear from anyone who currently works there or has in the past.

•How is the day-to-day workflow on the Google Fiber campaign? Are the metrics (like AHT/FCS) super brutal, or is it manageable?

•What are the benefits like, and do they actually kick in quickly?

•Realistically, what are the opportunities for internal growth or moving up into QA, support tiers, or leadership?

Any tips or honest feedback on management and the general office vibe would be awesome. Thanks!

feeling discouraged

Anybody else feeling extremely discouraged at how bad the job market is right now? My husband got let go 2 months ago and has been job searching since then. But coming on here and seeing that it took others a year to 18 months to finally land something is so discouraging especially with the holidays creeping up

Success Story Finally found a job

After being out of work for 18months after my baby and having no job to go back to and trying to relocate from The Valley to Ottawa. I made my resume searchable on Indeed and was approached by my current employer. It took about 3 months to get everything rolling (it’s through the government but I’m a private contractor and it had to get approved). I thought it was a scam because the wage was too good to be true. All to say I started and it’s been great.

Forgot to mention I applied to over 200 jobs with only 4 interviews. I got hired for 2 jobs rejected one. I realized my issue was my resume format that the employment counsellor did was horrible and lacked information and my cover letter was too much information. Once I edited it I received interviews..

Looking for Work How is getting a job so hard??

I’m at a loss. My spouse has been out of work for over a year.
(Has warehouse management experience as well as working with day camps years back)
I’ve been off for many months as well. My experience is exclusively in administration/legal assistant (for 10 years).

I’ve had a few interviews but haven’t landed a job due to either “internal hiring” or finding candidates better suited with experience because the industry I’ve worked in is quite niche for legal work and it seems nobody wants to take a shot at someone who hasn’t worked the specific industry despite many years experience behind them. He’s also had a small handful of interviews but nothings stuck. Can’t even seem to get an jnterview for minimum wage work anymore. We both aren’t bilingual.

Both our EI will run out in the new year. I’m beyond stressed. We have two kids. I don’t want to loose everything we’ve worked so hard for.

Help 😭😭

Looking for Work I know the job market sucks but I'm noticing a lot of sales vs analyst positions

As the title suggests... I'm looking for entry to mid level analyst roles and can't find diddly squat. All I see on linkedin or indeed are sales jobs which I am actively trying to get out of. I understand that with AI and cost cutting people aren't hiring but is it just me that's noticed this?

Got an interview. Advice ?

I got a job interview as an analyst at a financial institution (it’s similar to the role I’ve done in the past).

Here’s the kick, it’s in Montreal and it would be a massive salary cut (I currently make $73,000/yr and this job pays $50,000-65,000).

My current job is contract with the government (it ends in 2027 May). Idk what to do.

I don’t have a backup plan and it’s no guarantee I’ll get another interview. I’ve been applying since May of this year (roughly 30-40 applications a day) and I have only gotten a single call back for a manager role which I did an interview role for but got no call back.

What would u do in my shoes ?

I have experience why can’t I find a job?

Long story short, my contract ends in May of 2027 and I’ve been applying since June and no calls back.

I’ve worked at big-named companies (all of them were analyst roles but still counts as experience) and in total I have roughly 4 years experience in the finance/insurance field.

Why can’t I even get an interview ? I need to find a job before May otherwise I will be homeless and I do have bills to pay

Hello, I am looking for a long-term home helper (3-4 hours per week, at $25/hr). I am chronically ill, and get weekly treatments that make it challenging for me to keep up with certain things. I work from home full-time (in centretown). Ideally the candidate would be able to help both with dog walking and house chores.

I would need help with the following:
- 1hr dog walk on treatment days (usually Mondays)
- I have a medium-large dog active senior dog with a good temperament.
- tidying and cleaning of 1 bedroom + den + 1 bathroom apartment on a weekly basis (vacuuming, bathroom, kitchen, floors, surfaces, dusting, etc.)
- someone who would also be open to taking on the occasional organizing and deep cleaning project (organizing fridge, closet, shelves, etc.)

If you know of anyone who may be suitable, please let me know or feel free to DM me. Thanks!

Edit: as of 17-10-2026, the position has been filled.

today is my first day but my manager hasnt replied to my call or email ...

So I got a job, signed the offer and was expecting to get an email with a schedule. Without giving my workplace away, they are open 24 hours so its not like everyone shows up at the same time. I was hired to work the open shift but was told my first week would be days but days can start at any time between 6am-10am. I emailed the manager yesterday at 11am asking about a schedule. I didnt hear back so I called the place at 6pm and the person at the front desk told me to just wait until i heard from the manager... its now 7am the day i am supposed to start work and I dont know what to do...

Looking for Work Getting a job as a newcomer

Hi everyone!

I'm new to Ottawa and Canada in general. I have experience in equipment maintenance and customer service, although since 2022 I had to work on survival jobs like driving an Uber.

I'm currently applying for the entry level positions like dealership lot attendants, rental car lot employee, hotel receptionist, delivery driver and so on, all paying 18-20$/h and all I get is refusal. I thought these jobs should hire anyone, but apparently I'm wrong.

Is the market too saturated with unskilled laborers? And what should I improve in order to get employed?

I need a job i need steady income but i haven’t got a degree and im 25F

I just want my life to get back on track.
I have been technically unemployed for two years. I say technically because I have been babysitting my 2 year old nephew since he was 7 months old. I was working at a goodwill in my neighborhood for about a year until I quit. My plan was to get a better job. But I was never hired anywhere else. I stopped trying once i started babysitting and helping my mom with my baby nephew. I still had enough availability for a part time but couldn’t find a place that would hire me.
I was also kind of giving up and avoiding getting a job because I get social anxiety and am not the best at customer service.

Seems like every job requires a level of communication and confidence that I seem to have lost along the way. Interviews get me so nervous to the point where i forget words and even facts about myself.

I recently started to get back out there and am currently waiting on a call back after an interview.
I don’t want to get my hopes up and give up again.

Im wondering if anyone knows a job that would hire me despite having social anxiety.
I obviously wouldn’t advertise that and would mask as confident and super social.
And eventually once i get comfortable at a place I wouldn’t have to fake the confidence and enthusiasm but It is a challenge going to places and having to put up a front for the hopes that I will be worth hiring.

I also can get pretty restless if a place is too repetitive.
I lose motivation and can get easily drained if a job feels like nothings actually getting done.
I can be a very picky person when it comes to investing my time into a place. But I still put my all into my work once I’m there.
I understand that having all these concerns is limiting my options and making it more difficult to get a job.

I am still willing to be uncomfortable for as long as i need until I can get the hang of a space/environment.

Does anyone know of a job or even something I can study with my conditions.

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense and thank you in advance if you have read the whole thing.
