Nas’ Illmatic, Snoop’s Doggystyle or Biggie’s Ready to Die is (rightfully so) probably the albums most people my age cite as the most important album to them in really loving hip hop but for me it’s this album from 2 guys I’d never even heard of until I (a kid from London England) was reading the Source magazine and saw Aquemini receive the coveted 5 🎤 review
So of course I went down to my local CD store and brought the album, I was so excited to listen to it and after the 1st half of the album I was loving it, then SpottieOttieDopaliscious came on, my instant reaction was, wtf is this, where was the rappin’ I was so disappointed but then I carried on playing the album all the way through again & gave the track I thought I hated another spin but I really listened to it & that’s where my luv for real hip hop grew
It blew a 14 year old only rap fans mind, it made me appreciate the music more, the beats, the percussion, the vocals and different sounds instead of needing to hear the dope rhymes, which that album had anyway
It was a masterpiece of an album that I still bump from time to time & im glad that I was so disappointed on that 1st listen coz it truly opened my mind to what hip hop is at its core - self expression manifested in many forms
Without that track & Liberation I would of not been able to cope with Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - so to say this album is apart of my history and luv of my favourite art form is an understatement

Always go back between this and ATLiens.
I love skew it on the bar b, Rosa parks, Slump, not many skips.

ATLiens and Aquemini are like the Wire and Sopranos for me. When I’m watching the Wire I’m like, “Okay this is the greatest TV show ever.” Then a month or two later, I’ll throw on some Sopranos and convince myself that it’s the GOAT.
I like whichever one I’m currently listening to the best.

I still remember picking this album up on cassette the first day it came out on the way home from work. It was a long ride, so I got to listen to entire album in one sitting and was in awe. I knew instantly it was a masterpiece…one of my favorite albums of all time.

Still remember the first time I heard it..In that moment, it was hard for me to accept what Stacks was saying on “Mamacita”..by the end of his verse it all made sense, but as it was happening it was almost traumatizing lol

This is in my top three albums of all time. I don’t remember many positives about my childhood, but I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard aquemini. I love all Outkast but there is just something about this one. I listen pretty frequently and I still delight in it like it’s 1998.

My first CD, I can remember playing it on the PlayStation watching the colored fuzzy lines bump around on the screen. I spent hours memorizing Rosa Parks! Good memories and good music! My first concert ever too!!

I … still remember getting it. Big pink sticker on the jewel case saying includes Rosa parks and skew it on the bar-b. Tiny parental advisory notice located within that large pink sticker.

Outkast should drop one last album under the moniker: "Pimp Trick Gangsta Click" 😁. Just call it "Album". 🙌🏽

Wow time flies. That means I was a senior in college 28 years ago. I bought it on vinyl. 25 years ago I lent it to a coworker and then I was fired. I still miss that album.

Probably the best hip hop album of all time.
