I wish I knew her as an egg
Every time I look at this little lady or scratch her head my chest feels warm and I grind my teeth. She says, "I love you" and "come 'ere!" to me all day long and it melts my heart. Does she know what she's saying? I'd imagine the phrase "I love you" is attached to our sweet moments, so maybe she associates it with good feelings. I miss her when I lay in bed at night and feel the same warm feeling scrolling thru pics and vids of her on my phone. She is my first bird after a life so far of cat and dog ownership and it's a totally different feeling for me. Although caring for a parrot is very demanding, I enjoy doing it and look forward to our years to come. I wish I could have seen her in her egg lol 🥚 I would sit on it and keep it warm. LOL. Ok too far I'll stop now. She will be 1 next month. 🥳

I don't think they understand "love" in the same way humans do, but birds (especially grays) know that "I love you" is a sign of affection!

I love my parrotlet so much too that i also feel warm around him, and also sometimes wish i could've shrunk and helped sit on him when he was an egg😭 i actually get so emotional thinking about the fact birds come from eggs. Sometimes I look at my bird and think omg you used to be in an egg. And i get so emotional. And then i just want to trap him in my hands and keep him safe and warm there forever. In my egg hands.
Parrots are such amazing creatures. Ive had my little guy over 2 years now and I still fall more in love everyday. I dont even know how its possible but i do. I swear my heart does backflips when I think of him, sometimes I think i might explode from all the love i have for him. You're so lucky to have such a remarkable dinosaur in your life. I wish you many happy years!

That is so sweet ❤️ I have a pacific parrotlet myself, and I swear he’s my soul bird!! I can’t get over how tiny he is. He is terminally ill, and has a tumor behind his eye that damaged his right eye very badly. It may be unsightly for others, but I think he is just as beautiful as he was the first day i laid my eyes on him ten years ago. They are precious babies!!

☺️ aww.. I feel same for mine .. you’re a great person !
Your birdie is so lucky to have you !! 💕
I have an aneurysm so I get so sad thinking that someday could be soon that I wont be with him …
And I can’t think about it .. he’s a special Birdie
Cosmo is hand fed since he was little when I bought him he wouldn’t eat and the guy that sold him to me told me not to worry - of course I didn’t listen to him I blended some chicken with no seasoning with a little of almond milk and brown rice into a paste and I fed him some and water .. the next day I told him look he doesn’t want to eat again
He told me - don’t worry it’s ok he will be fine and I knew that was wrong answer ! It’s sad how some people are just in it for selling no heart into it and it’s very sad !
So I continued and yes he eats pellets but I have to chop them down and actually hand feed him ! He also drinks Emeraid Omnivore since he was 1 year .. the vet told me his calcium was low and sold that bag to me .. later he wrote a prescription for it and til today I call it his soup ..
sadly the doctor wants 864 dollars to renew the prescription which I only have til December
I don’t know what I will do to come up with 900 dollars cuz it’s also 75 dollars for the office visit …
He wants to take away his food .. if i don’t do him a blood test and with anesthesia ! 😢…
When you have animals it’s great wonderful but it’s also sometimes sad … when they get sick
My Cosmo is 3 and he has been through so much ..
2 months ago I took him to trim his nails to Beverly’s pet store and you know what they did ? They cut his wings .
I didn’t know til I got home and took him out of the travel cage and he flew to a wall ! I cried ! They like hurt him and I can’t forgive that … I called them and she said they told her wings too.. I said I said only nails .. told her they need to put a document in place where owner signs off to what they want done to their pet ..
super sad . 😞
Well you have a beautiful birdie 🦜Enjoy her ! 💕🥰

Oh they definitely understand language in relation to feelings and situations, she loves you! Have you seen the cockatoo who has anxiety and uses her iPad to communicate when she’s stressed? They’re so smart

African greys certainly do associate words with meanings! They may not always mean the same things to them as they do to us, but they are known for the fact they don't simply mimic with no understanding, they do try to communicate through speaking too. Many of them learn to ask for a favorite treat, for example. All that to say, absolutely it is very likely she associates “i love you” with affection and kindness, and is using the phrase to express that. You've got a beautiful bird there, and whether she understands it in exactly the same way as us or not, she clearly knows you love her 🫶

I often tell my birds I will put them back in the egg I hatched them from, as they are my natural-born children. As far as they know, anyway.

Aww yes, they are such beautiful babies. It is special to raise one since they are nestlings, but all bird pets are beautiful and wonderful to be in the presence of regardless of age 🥰🫶

Grays are smart. Read Alex and Me, a Harvard teacher proved parrots can understand language and communicate

Even my irn actually gives kisses when he says "give some kisses" (and my sun conure kisses him when he says it) so they definitely assign meaning to words. It may not be exactly our meaning, though.

If you are going to sit on it as an egg then there would be no bird . Just an egg broken , but the bird is beautifull though
