Personally I like P1 the best. I get why so many people say to start with 2, just on the level of the kind of stuff a new person is going to notice quickly, 2 was a better made game. It's less janky, if anything.

That said.. idk, I stand by saying start with 1. It's not as bad as some of the comments here are making it out. And to be honest, it's not a difficult game, it just doesn't a very good job (I assume on purpose) of teaching you how to play it. Once it clicks though? Really not that bad.

I think P2 is probably what the developers were imagining when they started building P1, but what comes with that is it's much more punishing.

P1 doesn't punish you for dying, it has the Bachelor route which, I think if you take the entire series, P1 Danil is the easiest by far. P1 also doesn't have the rate of time passing continually speed up through the entire game.

This might not be something everyone agrees with, but specifically for a new player, the fact the devs didn't make an active effort to avoid save scumming/there's just a normal list of save files in P1 is another point in P1's column in my book.

TLDR; I think P2 is probably a better game, but its also harder and way more punishing. P1 doesn't punish you for dying, the way saves work in P1 gives you more room to figure things out with less frustration, and P1 doesn't have time move faster every day.

If you don’t like old games go with 2. If you like reading go with classic.

I prefer Patho 2 writing but Patho Class HD is very fun, no matter what you choose I’d give the other a shot. Either way both have extremely different plot points even tho it’s the “same” story

Personally, I would start with Pathologic 3. Its the most easily accessible version. Then try and survive Artemy's return home with P2 & if you're truly brave attempt P1.

Anyone who tells you to start with classic HD does not have your best interest at heart and shouldn't be trusted. Start with 2 and only check out classic if you fall in love.

Strongly disagree. I don't know where classic got this reputation (i suspect the hbomberguy video) but classic is really not as challenging as people make it out to be. It has far stronger writing and all 3 routes to create the complete picture of pathologic. Definitely start with classic. 2 is arguably more challenging as a game, but also great. Just best enjoyed second

look dude if someone wanted to get into elder scrolls and you told them to play Morrowind, first they're going to lose interest fast.

I havent played elder scrolls so i can't speak to that example, but it seems like encouraging skipping over the strongest game in the series for the sake of appealing to the average gamer is the goal of this subreddit and i find it ridiculous every time. Pathologic classic is really, really good. The most worth playing of the 3, and enhances the experience of the next 2.

Also, what's up with your username dude.

this post is literally an average gamer asking what would appeal to them, idk bro maybe you just gotta learn to read the room.

it's a decade old meme making fun of a homophobic guy.

Morrowind is literally the best one lol I feel like most people around me lost interest when they got away from that and the series became homogeneous af

Pathologic classic, no contest. If you need tips for either game, I'm always happy to help! I recommend going Bachelor, Haruspex, then Changeling (as far as route order goes). Then 2, then marbles nest, then 3.

Pathologic 1 is not a "hidden gem" as much as a game with interesting ideas, terrible execution. The remakes are way better.

However, P1 is usually on sale. I tried it, left after a couple of days and managed to satisfy my curiosity for the price of coffee.

Alternatively P2 has a demo, there's that
