The 5090 uses the same GPU basis as the RTX Pro 6000. The latter is currently selling for $15.000-20.000. Now NVIDIA can use all those chips for the $20k card instead. More money = good.
I regret telling our acquisition guy to hold off on ordering us 5090s, I believe my words were "we can stretch the 4080 supers out a couple more years until prices come down".
The AI bubble could crash any time, much less in a couple of years. It's fueled by investor hype and dreams, currently. It certainly does have utility, but not enough to justify the money presently flowing into it.
The problem is the demand isn’t organic and it’s an active attack on consumers. All of AI right now is just a financial version of the human centipede.
I wouldn’t care if all of these AI companies (and all tech companies jumping on the bandwagon) weren’t openly manipulating the market, but they’re eating their own shit and want to shove it down our throats too.
The 5090 being discontinued doesn't mean "wiped off the face of the Earth". It's still the most powerful 50 series card, even if you can't get it anymore brand new. You can still get it used
Note that 5090 scams are at an all-time high. Even if you buy one that isn't an obvious scam (such as having a really low price) you may end up with a brick or a card that had the GPU core and memory chips removed. They're even building complete replicas where they actually create fake chips that look real, so that you can't inspect the card by looking through the side to see if the chips are on there.
I have purposefully sold all but one of my old GPUs to friends who live close by and have been lifelong friends all with the agreement that I can buy them back when they’re done with them just so I can do this. It’s going to be an homage to EVGA
One of my friends is on what he likes to call the blazingspaceghost hand me down plan. He buys all my old computers and I use that money to finance my next build. He doesn't mind staying behind the curve while getting a good deal and I get money towards my build. Unfortunately for him my current 3800X3D/4080 build is going to take me to 2030 at the earliest and possibly even longer.
Very true once you hit the top there is no way coming down, just replace the hobby. 1080p - GTX 660 Ti > GTX 980 Ti > 4K 60Hz - GTX 1080 Ti x 2 > RTX 3090 > 4K 144Hz - RTX 4090 > 4K 240Hz - RTX 5090
FYI, the normal wireview 2 pro isn’t compatible with the FE cards due to their weird connector placement. He would have to get the wired version of the wireview.

Then someone broke into my house and stole a bunch of my stuff, including what I won.
And I found out the same deputy who investigated the break-in was arrested 3 months later for facilitating a “methamphetamine distribution ring” a few blocks over…
I've entered sweepstakes and giveaways since I was a little kid. Never won anything, not even the smallest prizes. I've had family members join and try improving odds before too, where the rules allowed it. I've probably joined well into the hundreds by now
Not sure how common it is among 5080 FEs but heard someone mention the FE had the worst coil whine among the 5080s. I definitely had coil whine, and remember the poster recommended capping FPS. I’ve found if I cap FPS to 240 I don’t get any whine
winning shit feels fucking awesome, i have won a halo edition 6900xt, and a LG 39" ultrawide OLED, both from reddit and both my biggest wins ever, fucking congrats

Have you been looking for them? I ask because people say stuff like that but it feels like they haven't looked at all, or don't have enough activity on the community to have noticed any.
Some people spend years entering GPU giveaways while desperately trying to replace ancient hardware.
And then someone who's already sitting on an RTX 4080 casually wins a 5080.
That's like winning a free first-class flight while you're already sitting in business class.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will continue proudly collecting our greatest giveaway prize: promotional emails.
Seriously though, congratulations. That's the kind of luck most gamers only experience when a game accidentally forgets to load its difficulty settings.
I wish. I mean its not like I would have anything to do with it, but maybe someday! Now excuse me while I try and find out why BG3 is setting my 3060 laptop on fire again.
