no the only thing he did say was he didn’t want an external studio doing a remake like bluepoint other than that he was not opposed to the idea of it being released on pc or a pitch to remaster the game
That’s a pretty big misrepresentation of what he said and what we know about the situation. The source is all (well sourced) speculation and second hand reports, but saying “Miyazaki said no to Sony’s remake pitch, but then he told them they could remaster it and Sony refused” is nonsensical. If they were willing to spend $$ on a remake why would they decline a remaster? It’s clear Miyazaki doesn’t want anyone’s hands on it beside him and his team.
These are the direct quotes from the source:
[According to Schreier] when Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake, it was told "that the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen."…
“Shuhei Yoshida who said that Bloodborne was "the most asked [for] thing" by PlayStation fans, and theorized that its creator was hesitant to let others recreate or modify his work. "My theory is: Because I remember Miyazaki-san, he really, really loved Bloodborne, [...] I think he is interested," Yoshida told Kinda Funny Games' Greg Miller last year, "but he’s so successful, and he’s so busy, he cannot do [it] himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. That’s my theory. And the PlayStation team respects his wish. That’s my guess."
Then the direct quote from Miyazaki about it is a complete deflection, in no way does this quote indicate it’s up to Sony. He gets asked point blank about it and goes “oh it’s not mine. I see why people want them on new hardware, but that isn’t the end all be all”
“Unfortunately, and I've said this in other interviews, it's not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically," he said. "We simply don't own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we're not at liberty to speak to it."
“think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki said. "Things you weren't able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren't able to render specific expressions - [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible.
"However, I wouldn't say that's the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform."
in no way does this quote indicate it’s up to Sony.
What the hell are you talking about? You quoted someone who isn't Myazaki saying why they think it won't happen as proof that Miyazaki doesn't want anyone to touch it, and then you quote the man himself directly where he points out very clearly that Fromsoft doesn't own the IP. He even says "it's not mine." It's entirely up to Sony what happens with the Bloodborne IP.
I mean my first sentence literally says this entire story is based on speculation and 3rd party sources. Not sure how that reads as me asserting it’s proof.
What DID happen was FromSoftware rejected Sony’s bid for a remake. Whether you think him dodging the question in the setting of rejecting a remake is him saying he totally would let Sony do whatever is up to you. I’m going to side with Yoshida’s intuitions not a redditors emotionally tied opinion is
Yeah I don't blame him after how they disrespected Miyazaki on the Demons Souls remake.
For context they basically did away with the intended art direction and also did not have Miyazaki's name at all in the credits despite him basically directing the entire game.
Jim Ryan perceives gamers as not liking "old games"
I at least partially agree with him when everyone is asking for a "remaster" of a game with such a strong visual identity rather than a port that runs at a modern framerate
It's not like BB needs a ton of work, but it could use some higher res textures, a high res UI, a few remastered assets and other minor changes. All things that are already available as mods on PC.
Sony doesn't need Miyazaki's permission to do anything with Bloodborne. Sony owns the IP and have full control to remake, remaster, or port to PC. But choose not to and cite Fromsoft and Miyazaki as the problem.
No one blamed FS, it’s Miyazaki himself that said he doesn’t want anyone else than himself touching BB. Sony didn’t go through with a remake more so likely out of respect for Miyazaki’s wishes so as to not burn any bridges they have with FS.
I hate how myazaki is so beloved and yet he makes selfish stupid decisions like that. Like ok at least remaster/ port/unlocked fps. Not even that… wow…
I love the amount of misinformation about this. He denied the idea that ANOTHER studio take over the remaster/remake. He'd rather have himself and the rest of FromSoftware do it
After what Bluepoint did to Demon's Souls, I see why he refused the offer
I commented on another thread under this post about how Bloodborne doesn't get any love because Jim Ryan perceives gamers as hating "old games", seeing you get down voted for expressing dissatisfaction over a remake that fundamentally misunderstood the art direction of the original makes me realise he may have a point
Why the hell would you want a remake that fucks with any part of the original at all? BluePoint doesn't get some 'freebie changes', they either remake it accurately or they don't do anything at all. They're not above criticism because they were trying to sell you a product.
Didn't know that me wanting the artistic intent in media to remain intact made me a "purist," but I guess that's fine. Being a purist is okay if it means I respect creators' original intents
Can't just slap "muh muh muh grafics!!!" onto a mediocre pile of trash and call it a good remake
RE4 remake at least had the same core art direction. Demon's Souls felt so, so mediocre and "corporate"
It's not just a few pngs, that's just the tip of the iceberg
And did you actually just say you like DLSS 5? You just said "I like when slop ruins the artistic intent and direction," you lost all possible grounds in a discussion on how good a remake is
I know, i could have been disingenuous and hid that fact. But i proudly presented it, you want to hear something blasphemous?
I play rpcs3 games right from my ps3 discs with a blu ray drive connected to my pc with graphics set to max and dlss5 turned on as a “slop” filter 😈😈. So don’t say i don’t love old games. I just love the future lil bro.
Nah man I'm all for emulation by any means. Preserving old games is important
I wouldn't say you "like old games" if you're using new, shitty tech to ruin said old games. I do like how you said "I love the future" when talking about the slop tech, and "lil bro" so I know you're a 13 year old
Yea my point is that i’m absolutely shitting on the “artistic intent” of all the games i play. If it’s native then i’m modding the shit out of it and using reshade etc. i only care about gameplay, story, and eye candy. Sometimes having good art direction is synonymous for photo realism.
Yes i would never use dlss5 on 2d games because the art style doesn’t translate well therefore lowering the “eye candy” scale but if it features humans then i’m 100% turning on the slop filter. Yes it still needs to be improved but it’s 100% better than what native looks like in photo realistic games nowadays.
I'm not a fan of Dlss5 but your counterarguments seems to imply like someone should like a game just for the art direction. Mmh, yeah, it's important, but don't you play for the gameplay? 🤔
I too would not be ok with Bluepoint doing Bloodborne remake after the Demons Souls Remake. It just does not play as well as the original, and Bloodborne is all about that second to second gameplay

I don't think "sony greed" is the reason BB isn't on PC. AFAIK, it's Miyazaki that denied Sony doing anything BB related without his input.
