Nothing. The majority of the traction this is getting is from cringe terminally online children.
The 'Sony Greed' and the woman with devil horns tells you everything you need to know regarding the people 'championing' this like it's some direct fuck you to Sony. It was an inevitability accelerated by the advent of AI assisted coding.
Emulation is cool and I support wider access to video games, I even support piracy but the social media charge online has been incredibly cringe and just another way to say "Sony bad". It's especially cringe when who it's being 'backed' by are a group of people who will never use any of these things, they'd struggle to get a Gameboy emulator running on their phone, let alone setup their own PC and natively run another console on it.
Yeah I think most people are overestimating how popular this’ll be. You need a monster of a PC to run this stuff, and most people don’t care to set it up or simply don’t want to pirate games. Sony could shadow drop a Bloodborne remaster tomorrow and it’d sell like crazy
I think the reasonable position has always been that while there’s a lot of problems with how it’s being developed and used, it’s also an incredibly powerful tool and can help make some really cool stuff in the hands of a skilled user.
I’m not sure there’s a single technology ever invented that can be boiled down to a simple “good” or “bad”.
Up front, I'm no expert about this and am open to being corrected. But basically, right now when it comes to generating art and creative things AI ain't it. It is great at coding but also needs to be thoroughly checked and often isn't.
It is my understanding that AI is however excellent at reading and processing a shitload of data, and it is THIS capacity which is enabling all this crazy reverse engineering. It can brute force through what would have been a completely unviable amount of effort.
Like - I wouldn't tell AI to write me a Shakespearean play. It'll be atrocious. However I could tell it to read every book in a library and give me the second word on the tenth page of all of them, and it would crank it out in a heartbeat.
So as far as I'm aware, it is possible to both hate AI in the creative space while recognizing and appreciating its use in this one.
