no the only thing he did say was he didn’t want an external studio doing a remake like bluepoint other than that he was not opposed to the idea of it being released on pc or a pitch to remaster the game
That’s a pretty big misrepresentation of what he said and what we know about the situation. The source is all (well sourced) speculation and second hand reports, but saying “Miyazaki said no to Sony’s remake pitch, but then he told them they could remaster it and Sony refused” is nonsensical. If they were willing to spend $$ on a remake why would they decline a remaster? It’s clear Miyazaki doesn’t want anyone’s hands on it beside him and his team.
These are the direct quotes from the source:
[According to Schreier] when Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake, it was told "that the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen."…
“Shuhei Yoshida who said that Bloodborne was "the most asked [for] thing" by PlayStation fans, and theorized that its creator was hesitant to let others recreate or modify his work. "My theory is: Because I remember Miyazaki-san, he really, really loved Bloodborne, [...] I think he is interested," Yoshida told Kinda Funny Games' Greg Miller last year, "but he’s so successful, and he’s so busy, he cannot do [it] himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. That’s my theory. And the PlayStation team respects his wish. That’s my guess."
Then the direct quote from Miyazaki about it is a complete deflection, in no way does this quote indicate it’s up to Sony. He gets asked point blank about it and goes “oh it’s not mine. I see why people want them on new hardware, but that isn’t the end all be all”
“Unfortunately, and I've said this in other interviews, it's not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically," he said. "We simply don't own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we're not at liberty to speak to it."
“think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki said. "Things you weren't able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren't able to render specific expressions - [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible.
"However, I wouldn't say that's the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform."
in no way does this quote indicate it’s up to Sony.
What the hell are you talking about? You quoted someone who isn't Myazaki saying why they think it won't happen as proof that Miyazaki doesn't want anyone to touch it, and then you quote the man himself directly where he points out very clearly that Fromsoft doesn't own the IP. He even says "it's not mine." It's entirely up to Sony what happens with the Bloodborne IP.
I mean my first sentence literally says this entire story is based on speculation and 3rd party sources. Not sure how that reads as me asserting it’s proof.
What DID happen was FromSoftware rejected Sony’s bid for a remake. Whether you think him dodging the question in the setting of rejecting a remake is him saying he totally would let Sony do whatever is up to you. I’m going to side with Yoshida’s intuitions not a redditors emotionally tied opinion is
Yeah I don't blame him after how they disrespected Miyazaki on the Demons Souls remake.
For context they basically did away with the intended art direction and also did not have Miyazaki's name at all in the credits despite him basically directing the entire game.
