Can I just ask, not rudely, is not furthering this IP solely to blame on Sony? Or is Fromsoft not interested?

154

u/TheGrimmBorne 12h ago

Sony has requested to further it but Miazaki specifically told them no, he had a falling out with them and doesn’t trust them to do what he wants with the IP and since they own it, it means it’s dead

10

u/Ok_Nail2672 6h ago

He didn't have a falling out with them lmfao. They clearly have a good relationship if they respect his decision despite the fact that it's Sony IP.

3

u/StrangelySerious- 9h ago

...if they own the IP there is nothing Miazaki can say to prevent them to do what they want to do with it, this is nonsense that is being parroted over and over again, game developper don't get a say in how the game publisher publish the game -_-

-3

u/TheGrimmBorne 8h ago

Miazaki is the head of FromSoft not just a game dev 💀

12

u/StrangelySerious- 8h ago

????????? So???????????? And the sky is blue and water is good for you?????

12

u/TG_Trash_are_better 7h ago

Idk why the other people you got into arguments with couldn't explain the very obvious point you need spelled out for you.

Yes a dev has no rights over what Sony does with the IP, obviously.

But FromSoft has to agree to make it for it to be good. Sony could hire some company to make what is basically a shitty knock off but people don't buy FromSoft games because of the IP. They buy them because FromSoft makes good games.

Holding the IP makes more sense then burning money just to get spite from gamers and FromSoft alike.

-3

u/TheIndigoKing777 6h ago

Fromsoft has to agree? Please, Sony could just hand over money bags to the Lies of P guys and be set.

2

u/ArchLector_Zoller 2h ago

Why would Neowiz willingly crawl into From Software's shadow and try and continue Bloodborne? Seems like a lot of downsides for the same benefit of just making what they're making now, a sequel to Lies of P.

1

u/TheIndigoKing777 2h ago

I mean.... money is a good motivator lol. But seriously they probably wouldn't. I waa just saying there are other developers that are good at making souls likes, its not like FS is the only good ones.

2

u/ArchLector_Zoller 2h ago

You said Lies of P but the reality is that Sony would cheap out on the budget, cut deadlines, and end up with Lords of The Fallen(2014), the first one, but Bloodborne flavored. And that would bring apocalyptic levels of scorn from gamers.

u/StrangelySerious- 4h ago

Dear god you people are denser than a fucking black hole. YEAH MAN THE DEMON SOUL REMAKE DIDN'T EXIST OR ANYTHING, TOTALLY A COMPLETE COMMERCIAL AND CRITICAL FAILURE AND ALL, NO ONE BOUGHT THAT AMIRIGHT.

If you just fucking ignore reality and substitute it for your own, you'll always be right!

Absolute fucking nonsense.

2

u/TheIndigoKing777 2h ago

Ok man, take a chill pill. And Ithe Demon souls remake was alright, I got no idea what your even on about. But you do you man, just don't give yourself a heart attack over reddit.

-5

u/NapsterKnowHow 10h ago

But that ruins the narrative that Sony is to blame. Redditors hate that truth

20

u/Funkwonker 9h ago

"He had a falling out with Sony"

"Ruins the narrative that Sony is to blame"

What?? If anything it reinforces it.

2

u/StrangelySerious- 9h ago

What truth? Sony is the game publisher, they own the IP, Miazaki could throw a tantrum and it wouldn't change jack shit he and FromSoft can't tell the owner of the IP what to do with the IP.

-6

u/NapsterKnowHow 9h ago

Miazaki said no. It ends there. That puts the blame on them not Sony.

6

u/StrangelySerious- 9h ago

Miazaki would have zero control over what the fuck Sony does with their IP lol, why the fuck people believe this nonsense. And Miazaki has in fact said in multiple interview that he wouldn't mind seeing one!

-4

u/NapsterKnowHow 9h ago

The proof is in the pudding. I don't know why people have such a hard time accepting that fact.

5

u/StrangelySerious- 8h ago

WHAT fact lol You're just spouting nonsense xD

-1

u/NapsterKnowHow 8h ago

It's at the start of this thread LOL. You can't accept the truth.

-28

u/Daedolis 11h ago

No they didn't, and Sony doesn't need to ask him, they OWN THE IP, they don't need his permission 😂

23

u/TheGrimmBorne 11h ago

The way the agreement for the IP worked when written, Sony has to have approval from FromSoft to make content with it, it was part of the agreement they made to get FromSoft to make it PS Exclusive. They had a falling out because FromSoft or Miazaki or someone else higher up in FromSoft didn’t like how Demon Souls Remake was handled and thus they refuse to let anyone touch their IP’s except themselves and they’re busy with new projects thus BB is trapped in dead IP land.

-23

u/Daedolis 11h ago

Lol no they don't, you have no idea what's in the contract and no company would agree to those terms. Sony owns the ip and can do whatever they want with it

15

u/kinnoth 11h ago

"You have no idea what's in the contract, nobody knows what's in the contract except for me!!! Only I know about the legal agreement made between these two companies!!! Me and nobody else!!!"

-- you, for some reason

-7

u/Daedolis 10h ago

I never claimed to know the details of the contract, lol, but we do know for a fact that Sony owns the IP in totality and don't need Fromsift's permission to continue or remake the game.

6

u/Ayershole Ryzen 7800X3D/3090/32GB RAM 10h ago

I know I know, reading is hard mate

-3

u/Daedolis 10h ago

"Sony owns the Bloodborne series, but Yoshida said in the interview that he believed Sony would respect Miyazaki’s wishes about not making a remake, and that appears to be how things played out" Thank you for providing a source that proves MY point. 😂🤦🏼

5

u/Ayershole Ryzen 7800X3D/3090/32GB RAM 10h ago

nobody is debating that Sony own the IP, but that means NOTHING if they wont use the IP without Fromsofts blessing, who are the ones saying no to the remake. Stop arguing semantics.

-3

u/Daedolis 10h ago

You can't read huh? His literally argument was that they contractually can't do it without their approval.

3

u/IntRonin 9h ago

I dont know why these people are arguing with you, you are correct.

Sony could wake up tomorrow and start on a bloodborne remake if they wanted to, they are just choosing not to as it against Miyazaki's wishes.

Which is what youve been saying - technically sony holds every card for this. And yes, that article did back you up too.

2

u/Ayershole Ryzen 7800X3D/3090/32GB RAM 10h ago

'sony owns the IP and can do whatever they want with it' - except they wont touch it, by their own admission, without Fromsofts blessing.

I hope you never do business because you dont seem to understand having an ounce of grace.

You're just not bright

1

u/TheGrimmBorne 8h ago

People agree to terms like this ALL the time lmao, see: Resident Evil movies, literally ALL the live action’s technically have the IP but can’t do whatever they want with it.

114

u/Sasquatchernaut 13h ago

It's been suggested by industry insiders that before they were shuttered Bluepoint Games (studio that did the Demon's Souls remake) pitched a Bloodborne remaster to Sony. Sony was onboard, but Fromsoft declined it.

Conjecture is that they were unhappy with the Demon's Souls remake, and won't let anyone else touch any of their games.

I'm all for going after all the big corporations' greed, but in at least this one case it seems like Sony isn't the villain.

22

u/CheesecakeMilitia 11h ago

While I hear that conjecture a lot from Demon's Souls diehards who insist the remake is shit, the only thing we've actually heard from Miyazaki on Bloodborne remaster is that he thinks it's too soon to be worthwhile - specifically saying maybe PS6 generation would have enough of a graphical leap to justify the dev time investment.

0

u/DonutHoles4Ever Mac Heathen 1h ago

People need to understand that Miyazaki can be wrong about things.

End of the day, you either do it now, or it will be too late when people literally just port the fucker to PC.

And that's both Sony and Miyazaki's problems.

He also may be a great game designer but that doesn't mean he knows how to run a business. Deciding something is still too early 10 years later is basically pure vibe.

7

u/floppyboiradio 13h ago

That’s basically where I thought it was, because whole Sony may be making an ass of themselves, I just don’t see a world where Fromsoft pitches bloodborne 2 and Sony says no. Sony be greedy. Bloodborne 2 be easy money.

28

u/Rev4li 13h ago

I didn't remember fromsoft being unhappy about demon souls but maybe. I do remember something about Miyazaki being very very protective of Bloodborne in particular because is a very special game for him so, yeah.

14

u/ScubaKlown 11h ago

If I remember correctly I heard from a gaming pod he wasn’t happy with the remake since they tweaked and changed some of the monster art and designs. Which FromSoft takes a lot of pride in. So if there’s gonna be a bb remake Miyazaki wants to do it himself but he’s very busy so that’s why it hasn’t happened.

9

u/KineticKris 13h ago

It’s this one. Has nothing to do with from being unhappy with demon souls.

Bandai Namco signed them for a trilogy, DS2 and 3 were planned from the start with the production of DS. He didn’t make 3 because he was unhappy with 2. He begrudgingly signed a 3 game trilogy and did Bloodborne on the side while DS2 was in production, then came back to crank out 3.

17

u/GreedyPride4565 12h ago

Why can’t it still be big corporation greed still? Fromsoft is hardly being run out of someone’s garage.

1

u/Separate-Walrus- 12h ago edited 12h ago

Because ultimately Fromsoft is currently carried by Miyazaki, so for now what he says goes. I’m sure that Fromsoft as a company wants to be scummy but realistically if Miyazaki isn’t interested in it, they stand to lose more from that than they might gain from it.

To a degree that is still arguably company greed, but not in the same way people normally refer to it. It is a bit like a less extreme Valve/Gabe situation where one guy has so much power in the company that you aren’t really talking about a company at all, you are talking about one guy with a ton of resources. Greed is probably still involved, but not the same kind of company greed people refer to.

0

u/Fun-Repair-7080 12h ago

Why would it be greed in that case?

-6

u/GreedyPride4565 12h ago

Don’t want to devalue their IP and lose out on sales of their next game Or do you really think they’re saying no because of artistic integrity??

Sometimes I feel redditors play the “critique of capitalism” card selectively against companies they don’t like.

4

u/Fun-Repair-7080 12h ago

Sometimes I feel redditors think 'redditors' are some kind of hive mind. I was just curious about your perspective, because honestly to me personally Sony not making a PC port isn't even greedy, it's their IP, they paid for it to be exclusive.

3

u/lenhedianche 11h ago

I’m sorry but you genuinely believe not wanting to devalue their IP is corporation greed? How the fuck is not wanting to release a product they are unhappy with a moral failing of capitalism?

2

u/davi3601 I Torrent VRAM 10h ago

With Fromsoft, yes it is exactly artistic integrity.

5

u/xDeathRender 12h ago

I think some people more often incorrectly conflate company existing in capitalism = company evil/bad.

1

u/Separate-Walrus- 12h ago

That isn’t necessarily incorrect. The iron cage theory kind of inherently implies capitalism makes all business evil out of necessity. If your business is successful in a world of shitty practice, it is probably because you adopted some shitty practices to get ahead of businesses that didn’t. The most obvious example is the idea of shareholders inherently implies the underpayment of workers in exchange.

Not saying it is definitely true, but to say that the assertion that all businesses in capitalism can’t be bad is also not definitely true.

1

u/Alt_SWR 8h ago

Uhhhh...how exactly is making LESS money the greedy thing? It's not selectively applying criticisms of capitalism, it's called common sense. The greedy move would be to just shit out a remake cause they know it'd sell

1

u/GreedyPride4565 6h ago

So if it was Sony blocking a bloodborne remake it wouldn’t be out of greed?

1

u/Alt_SWR 4h ago edited 4h ago

This isn't the "gotcha" you think it is considering that no, I don't think it would be greedy even if it were Sony who made that choice.

What exactly would anyone who made that choice be gaining that would somehow make it greedy to get LESS sales? Both From and Sony have to realize by now that if they were to release a BB 2, or hell even just an official PC port it'd break the internet/sell like hotcakes.

They're only losing by choosing not to, but that's a sacrifice From is willing to make to maintain artistic integrity. Personally I think if it were solely Sony's choice they would have been milking the IP for a while now

4

u/acasualfitz 12h ago

It really just needed to be a PS5 update with 60 fps. Dark Souls 3 is in 60 FPS on PS5. The remake is honestly more than the fan base was asking for.

1

u/trash-_-boat 12h ago

The idea that Sony, of all companies, would be against a Remaster, is completely inane.

1

u/435rouhnj234_209u RTX 5090 | Ryzen 7900X | 64GB DDR5 11h ago

I mean, the remaster/remake would still be playstation exclusive since Sony jointly owns the IP. So, FromSoft giving the go ahead doesn't help in any way with a PC port.

1

u/kmone1116 11h ago

Theirs is no proof they were unhappy with it, and we know Miyazaki while he didn’t play it did praise the game in interviews.

-2

u/Islu64 12h ago

Complete BS, From doesn't have a say in what gets done with the Bloodborne IP and sony already did a remake of Demon's souls, another Sony IP developed by From software, without consulting From software.

Sony owns 100% of the IP, not From.

1

u/Sasquatchernaut 12h ago

You are technically correct. However, Sony would be foolish not to defer to the wishes of the developer of one of the best selling games of the last decade and a guaranteed hit maker.

0

u/Islu64 12h ago

Even if we acknowledge that (which is a dubious argument since we are assuming that From Software was either displeased with the DS remake or that From Software would be against the idea of a bloodborne remake, neither of the two options being confirmed), why would From Software be opposed at the release of a direct port for PC, or a port for the ps5, or at the very least, an update that makes bloodborne run at 60 fps on ps4 pro/ps5?

2

u/Sasquatchernaut 12h ago

They're not opposed to it, but they are opposed to anyone working on Bloodborne but them. They just (presumably) haven't been prepared to dedicate resources to that particular project.

1

u/Islu64 12h ago

That's an unconfirmed assumption at best, which makes no sense if it's true.

23

u/FanBladeFleshlight 9h ago

The Sony blame is a combo of "trust me bro" and the recent bandwagon hate for their change to digital in 2028.

Realistically there's no evidence that Sony has anything to do with BB not being ported.

-4

u/Tarrtarus 7h ago

Sony deserves the negativity due to their highly anti-consumer behavior for the past few years.

7

u/FanBladeFleshlight 7h ago

"Let's falsely accuse them of something they had no part in because of a totally unrelated thing!"

Absolutely chud ass, red hat thinking.

8

u/Clevername582 13h ago

Miyazaki wants to be the one to bring a team back into that universe, but they're focussing on other things rn. Sony has wanted to do a Bloodborne 2 for a long time, but they respect his wishes wrt the IP.

30

u/South_Buy_3175 13h ago

Sony would milk this IP for all its worth.

It’s FromSoft not being on board which is halting that and any remaster even if just a native PS5 port.

FromSoft is big enough to throw their weight around and too busy with their own projects to handle a PS5 port or sequel. So it’s just forever stuck where it is now until they can do so.

1

u/Xatsman 11h ago

But is there any reason they're uninterested in releasing it on PC? I get console exclusivity, but they don't manufacture the PS4 anymore so what reason does Sony have to withhold it? And assuming it's just a port not a remaster surely Fromsoft would have no reason to object.

2

u/South_Buy_3175 10h ago

Sony still has a big say in how the Bloodborne IP is handled but ultimately it’s down to From & Miyazaki to have the final word & involvement on what happens.

BB in particular is Miyazakis favourite child and he likely wants to be personally involved in anything that happens to it, be it port, sequel or remaster.

If the stars had aligned and Miyazaki/From was free during Sony’s PC port era, there was a half a chance a PC release/PS5 remaster could have come to fruition. But now Sony has pulled back & From busier than ever, the time has passed and we’ll be lucky to get anything.

-1

u/No-Solution-6103 13h ago

But they redid Demon Souls for the PS5

8

u/agus61lll 12h ago

From was not responsible for the port, as in they didnt put the work in, Bluepoint games did iirc

1

u/South_Buy_3175 12h ago

Yeah? But that’s not Bloodborne.

BB is Miyazaki’s favoured child, he likely wants to be directly in anything to do with it and Sony probably doesn’t want to risk souring that relationship.

So it waits until they’re not as busy and they’re pretty fucking busy since ER so it’s gonna be a long wait.

-13

u/Islu64 12h ago

Sony doesn't need From Software to make any kind or port, remaster, remake or re-release. Sony owns the IP and the game, sony can do whatever it wants with it. A great example of the thing i've said happening is Demon's souls, it got a remake for ps5, and From Software wasn't involved in it (they weren't even consulted by bluepoint about how to approach the remake, literally zero involvement on From software's part)

To make a sequel, one could argue that they do need From software, but not because they need them legally, just because choosing any other team is a very risky gamble.

In any case, the lack of a bloodborne rerelease, port, update, etc is all because of Sony's fault exclusively.

13

u/Separate-Walrus- 12h ago

Fromsoft, or more accurately Miyazaki in particular, isn’t interested in sequels. Dark souls 2 had no involvement from him and 3 he only got involved at the end of development because he wanted some things tied up better

Sony would probably love to do more Bloodborne, but apparently out of respect for Miyazaki they don’t do more with the IP, remasters or sequels, without his support and involvement.

Overall I think that is a good thing. Dark souls 2 and 3 were, while obviously more modern than the first game, significantly less interesting than Dark Souls. And obviously not focusing on sequels meant we got stuff like Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden ring.

1

u/marularos6 12h ago

Thats the best thing Fromsoft does. They release games kinda regularly with a new fresh air of breath for not being sequels so having to worry about waiting a sequel is not a big thing. Imo looking at their games, DS, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring idc about not playing sequels. They go great replayabilty so I just throw a playthrough every now and then.

I will disagree about DS tho since I think 3 is by far their better and complete Dark Souls. The first one is too difficult to get on with a lot of bad areas to actually have fun in. Still a great game tho

2

u/DonutsSauvage 9h ago

Purely from a map design POV, Dark Souls 1 has by far the most impressive, organic and well built map of all Fromsoft games. Now from a mechanic perspective, it does suffer the comparison with DS3 which is more refined in every other aspect: ennemies, bosses, player controls, moveset etc.

10

u/Hans_H0rst 13h ago

Miyazaki said he wants as many players as possibly to enjoy his games, he wants PC ports.

Sony has declined a bloodborne remaster in the past.

7

u/Illustrious_Bat1334 11h ago

No. Sony pitched it to Fromsoft, they said no because they don't want another team to do it and they don't want to do it themselves right now.

1

u/mythrilcrafter Ryzen 5950X || Gigabyte 4080 AERO 10h ago

It honestly sounds like all the directors and creatives on the Sony and FromSoft side wants to do a port/remake; but all the business people at Sony and FromSoft are being sticks in the mud for some reason.

My bet is the Sony business people wants to put the money in more NaughtyDog games and the FromSoft business people wants to put more money in Elden Ring.

1

u/Mostafa3la2 12h ago

Other recent fromsoft games like sekiro and ds3 play 60 fps on ps5

1

u/sshssgn 10h ago

Both. Sony are sabotaging themselves over last few years, while Miyazaki has his new milking cow - Elden Ring.

1

u/Checho-73 2h ago

The IP is worthless without FromSoftware making the games and they are busy

1

u/RetnikLevaw 9800X3D / 9070XT 13h ago

Probably in whatever exclusivity contract they signed with Sony. And now that Sony has decided they're not porting any more of their exclusives to PC, the chances of Bloodborne ever getting an official port are basically zero.

I doubt FromSoftware cares either way. They're working on whatever they're working on and getting paid, and that's all that matters.

1

u/4Khazmodan 12h ago

I just want more King’s Field

1

u/Ok_Rate361 12h ago

Fromsoft did not like the work done by a third-party studio I think who made the ps5 remake of demon souls. They probably want to do it themselves and Sony probably wants to pay a third party way less than what they'd have to pay fromsoft to do it.

0

u/Odiekt 12h ago

I read this as;

"FromSoft couldn't believe how well BluePoint did with the Demon Souls remake that they are now not going to allow any other studio than themselves remake their games in case the Remake by a different studio looks better than what FromSoftware made".

1

u/Dimblo273 12h ago edited 12h ago

Looks graphically better* but also ruined the music and artstyle. No wonder Miyazaki doesn't want their paws on his favorite game, which also happens to have one of the most unique art styles in video game history

0

u/LeonSkyworth 11h ago

I read something a while ago, so source is "trust me bro", but Sony got cold feet after a port of an other exclusive on PC. Sales was bad so they say don't bother, Bloodborne on PC will not go well. I remember reading an article like 3 years ago, can't find the source anymore. No idea if this is true, but knowing Sony it may, blue collar don't understand videogames after all...
