Hardware Thanks to the community, I built my first PC at age 39

Post image

Thanks to you all, I learned a lot about the do's and Dont's when it comes to building a PC. I posted a while ago how I became extremely frustrated as a long time playstation owner and now I feel much better about my future experiences with gaming.

I've been using my PC for about 2 months, no issues.

Here is the build:

9070 xt hellhound gpu
12700 i7 cpu
64 gb ddr5 ram sk hynix
Artic 360mm liquid cooler
Montech case
Msi 850 watt psu
Msi mobo

Edit: the ram and cpu I was able to get for free from work sources

I might upgrade the cpu to the newer Intel chips for this lga1700 socket when it releases early next year, so I sorta lucked out there. I use this right now for 1440p gaming.

Thanks again

Lots of jobs in IT you end up getting first dibs on computer/server hardware before they go to auction and can buy them dirt cheap. In some cases you even get them for free.

is it 4x16 or 2x32, 4 sticks might be less stable

It's two 32gb sticks

ok, was just asking because often times the memory controller cant handle 4 sticks properly

I just recently moved from Ps5 pro to PC I will say best choice ever for gaming.

But I’ve been getting a heart attack trying to put as much safety as I can into it. Pc isn’t cheap in the current market but I couldn’t stand anymore Sony betrayal.

Why not get one of the Intel 270k CPUs, since you got free ram? They're pretty cheap, I think one with a mobo is far cheaper than a 9800x3D by itself. They're extremely good value right now.

I think Intel is re-releasing those CPUs on the older socket in 2027? That's on my list but right now everything works well enough

Well u could have gone with 32gb ram and 9800x3d processor but okay.

I do wish to get one of those x3d CPUs but right now I think I might stick with Intel. Hoping for a better chip than I have now when they relaunch on the older sockets

Go with a x3d, makes your games buttery smooth

I've yet to find anything that hinders the ability of my 5800x3d

If you got a 9800x3d you'd be set for yearsssss

What does this mean exactly? I feel like I have missed something important.

If you wait a little bit ps5 is coming to pc as Sony wanted digital

u/brandino00 8h ago

Basically made the same PC i have, except i went with a 9800X3D as a CPU. Its a beast of a unit for sure, you should enjoy!

u/NonDairy01 6h ago

Congrats!

And with an Arctic LF III 360, your cooler can easily handle an upgrade to something like an i7-14700k should you want a more powerful CPU on the same socket.

(Or, of course you can wait for the Nova Lake launch and just upgrade both your CPU and motherboard. And possibly PSU depending on how much power the new chips draw.)

64 gigs of ram? for what? and why an i7 12700?

also isn't the 14th gen the last one for lga1700?

This community was unable to help me build a computer because I am stupid and my life is a mess. Still got it handled though.
