OP, as a fan of comics, doodling, and tiny ink drawings, I thought I'd seen just about every style of pen cartooning; BUT, you've managed to develop a really original style.
I love this so much. The third image, with the scenery, is truly fantastic work.
What a fantastic collection. I'm going to follow you and pray you share more.

Thank you so much! As a self taught person, I long assumed a unique style was impossible for me to develop. It was a long road to get here, but I'm glad to say things the way only I can.

Clearly it wasn't! You've got great character and sense of life.. Only thing left is capturing movement. I always look to watterson for how to get movement in my cartoons (not that I ever perfected it).
I'm really not trying to glaze you too much but, this is genuinely inspiring me to get back into visual art. I got deep into music the last few years and haven't touched a micron since.
I suppose is time. Thanks so much for sharing!

Bill Watterson is my idol as well. 🙌
And I have a book that can help you get back into sketching! ☺️

They are good, OP is talented but this is very close to Taco Bell Drawing Club style, if not just actually that.

RIP to Jason Polan. Cancer sucks, get ya butts checked.

I didn't know about them, but giving him a look I find their work has a lot of distinct differences. I would never have thought to compare the two in terms of style, but they are similar in subject matter and medium! Even framing can be similar, that's true.
But I'd never mistake their work for each other's though.

I had to Google that, glad to see it! I used to draw webcomics once upon a time. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the alien autopsy approach to croissant consumption.

I would gladly buy a full coffee table book of those

u/the_sneaky_artist 19h ago
I'm actually making another kind of book of tiny people right now and maybe it's the opposite of a coffee table book - it's a pocket book! 😅

Great style! Your cityscapes are great. May I ask what pens you use? I’m a big fan of the microns…
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 8h ago
These were drawn with a Lamy fountain pen. I love microns too, but I only use them for hatching lines. I used a thick micron in these to do the borders.

I really want this to be a coffee table book!

u/the_sneaky_artist 12h ago
Making books is my big goal, and I'm testing the waters with my first Kickstarter right now!
•
u/AngelicChaos13 8h ago
That’s awesome! I wish you all the best with it and can’t wait to see a book or two soon! 😊

Hell yeah. Your drawings look so great in sets. Like that last Pic. I really like these. Nice work.

If I want to start doing this, what do I google for and how do I start? Thank you for reading and repsonding.

My favorite thing to do, plan on doing this this afternoon. It's my little 'me-time' I have once or twice a week.

I’m going to need you to keep creating because I was immediately drawn in to these. I want more!

I love this too ! I like to try to imagine where people are going and whats going on in their own world
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 10h ago
Full, complex lives! It's good to give some attention to the people around us. :)
•
u/overcaffeinatedraven 10h ago
Couldn't agree more, I think its important. It kinda "trains" empathy and emotional intelligence (not sure if there's a specific term for that in english)
•
u/MoxaCat71 8h ago
Brilliant. Love the style you've created

u/The_Bitter_Bear 5h ago
I really like the style you've developed. These are great.
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 4h ago
Thank you also for acknowledging it as a development. I try to tell people that style is an emergent phenomena, that builds out of small decisions repeated over time.
•
u/Thepurplepudding 1h ago
I've started drawing recently and noticed I see a style and think "that looks cool I want to draw like that", but doing that is extremely difficult.
Idk how or when I will develop my own, but I guess time will tell.
•
u/The_Bitter_Bear 26m ago
I can imagine a lot of people think it's just something you start with and not appreciate the time and work it takes.
I've followed some web comic artists for a couple of decades now and it's been fascinating watching their work and style evolve. Particularly with their stuff outside of the comics and seeing how they build on it.
I hadn't seen your stuff before, you've gained another fan today!
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 4m ago
Yeah, the word 'talent' rubs me the wrong way, even though I know people are coming from a good place and only trying to compliment me. The other part is that people disenfranchise themselves from the process when they think it is something you have or you don't. Art is in all of us, for all of us, and we have to get out from under these unhelpful labels to allow ourselves to do it.

Hey i like your style. It reminds me of the artist Dan Paladin who has made games like Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid. Are you familiar with his work?
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 4h ago
I was not, but thank you for sharing. I'm so curious to make art for games one day.

What kind of pen is that? I'm obsessed with pens and always looking for another.
•

It's a Lamy safari fountain pen, quite a workhorse in the sketching community.

Wonderful. Make it look easy or simple, when, in fact, it’s a very nuanced style from many many hours of practice! 👌

I saw someone doing something similar when visiting my grandpa, I mean in the town where he lives.

u/MAGNIF1CNT 10h ago
Cool, but reminds me a lot of Jason Polan with his series “Every Person in New York”
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 9h ago
His book gave me the courage to go out and draw, but I think our styles are distinct at this point.

Idk if you’ve ever played the hidden objects game called “Hidden Folks” but everything about your work reminds me of the style of it, down to the font of your title.
It’s great, and so is your work.

u/mylittletiffie 3h ago
Change the name and that's a perfect coffee table book!

There's a Seinfeld joke in here somewhere...

I was just saying because of the other Humans of New York guy.
•
u/the_sneaky_artist 2h ago
I drew that page after seeing the Humans of New York exhibit at Grand Central Terminal around then. So it was a nod to his fine work. :)

I love how much character you are able to give each doodle despite how "simple" it is.
