Treated as part of the team, bonds/trains with the team, etc. Just like any other Pokémon. They can be considered rare, in fact I would love it if people’s reactions are shock/disbelief, maybe the mc having it even causes some trouble with criminals or the government. I just don’t want it to be an impersonal weapon or a one time assistance to the mc to deal with a threat and we never see it again.

Joey: Riolu, use Quick Attack!

The small Pokémon advances swiftly and delivers a blow against the dragon, which doesn't react much and prepares to counterattack, but Joey commands Riolu to dodge and retreat.

Joey: Great, this guy is tough.

Druddigon prepares and casts a Dragonbreath. Joey and Riolu veer off in opposite directions.

Jaden: Ralts, use confunsion!

The psychic attack aimed at Druddigon takes effect, and the Pokémon recoils a few steps back while shaking its head.

Jaden: Joey, use this as an opportunity to attack!

Joey: Riolu, Bullet Punch!

Riolu imbues its fist with metal and lunges to attack the dragon, but the Pokémon responds by using its tail to strike back.

Jaden: "It seems that hand-to-hand combat is going to be difficult'". Joey, do you have any plans in mind?

Joey: Not exactly, do you have one?

Jaden: It seems my Ralts' attacks are having a better effect, but they alone won't be enough for us to win.

Joey: I see, I think I understand the strategy

With no time to continue thinking, Druddigon attacks with Twister, the draconic whirlwind closing in on the boys as they both separate.

Joey: Riolu, use double team

Riolu creates multiple copies and charges at the dragon again. When the Pokémon was about to use its attack, Jaden commands Ralts to use Confusion. Druddigon struggles to prevent Riolu from getting close, but the original jumps up. The dragon prepares to unleash a Dragonbreath.

Joey: Bullet punch straight to the target of the attack!

Riolu unleashes its attack on the small sphere formed before Druddigon's attack, and an explosion occurs. Due to the impact, Riolu is thrown far away. Druddigon appears to have suffered considerable damage. Before Riolu could regroup to attack again, the dragon, in a desperate effort, unleashed a powerful Twister, but suddenly, Ralts appears on the attack line.

Jaden: Let's end this, Ralts, use Disarming Cry!

The emitted noise echoes like waves that dissipate the draconic attack and hit Druddigon squarely, causing the Pokémon to fall to the ground unconscious.

Joey: We succeeded.

Joey turns to Jaden and gives him a thumbs up. Jaden gives a slight smile and nods to Joey. While the boys are distracted, another weakened Druddigon attempts to attack from behind, but is quickly defeated by an Absol that materializes as a ghost, delivering the final blow.

Jaden: Huh?

The omen Pokémon turns around as Damian approaches.

Lt Damian: You brats did a good job.

Jaden: Thanks for your consideration.

Despite both sides' victory, the destruction is evident all around.

Lt Damian: (sigh) What a mess, and on top of that, we have many injured people.

Joey: Why did these Pokémon start attacking the base?

Lt Damian: I don't know, lately there have been reports of wild Pokémon attacking for no reason at all, it's like they're reacting to something.

Jaden: That's strange, it's not like we're attacking their territory.

Lt Damian: Yes, that's why research is being done to better understand what's happening, but so far we haven't had much success.

The wind blows, dissipating the smell of smoke.

Lt Damian: Anyway, before you all leave so I can figure out how to handle this mess, I need to hand over a few things for your journey.

As Damian walks into the base, Absol accompanies him. A short time later he returns with certain items.

Lt Damian: Here are 5 Poké Balls for you and a first-aid kit. It can be used on both people and Pokémon, but please note that it's for single use only. If you want to use it again, you will need to go to a Thermal Center and have it replenished; use it wisely.

Joey: Thanks sir, will you need help?

Lt Damian: I need to gather some materials to repair everything, and also keep watch over those who are injured.

Joey: Then I'll help you, sir.

Lt Damian: Okay, so get ready and head back to Florite Town, we need help removing the rubble.

Joey: Right. Jaden, You go ahead behind the first guardian, I'll follow right behind you.

Jaden nods and begins to prepare

What's up, I'm glad to share that I've achieved 1k+ hits on AO3, I didn't expect that. This achievement is the beginning of a journey that even I would not have imagined. I've never written a fanfic or original story, so these little things motivate me to keep it going. I didn't even know what fanfiction was. Then when I came to know that something like this exists which makes your favorite anime/show more interesting. I'm so much motivated to write more and more which you will like.

This is just a random idea that came to me recently, regarding why all of the Ancient Paradox Pokémon have Protosy in-universe. Obviously the real reason is due to the game devs wanting them and the Future Paradoxes to have Abilities that synergize with Koraidon and Miraidon.

Anyways, what if they all have Protosynthesis due to Groudon?

It's the creator of the land, and assuming landmasses in Pokémon are similar in age to their IRL counterparts, Groudon has likely been around for at least 3.7 to 4.3 billion years. Taking it literally, Scream Tail's Violet entry explicitly states its from 1 billion years ago, so the timeline could match up. Plus Groudon has the Ability Drought (or Desolate Land as Primal Groudon) and since almost none of the Ancient Paradoxes are Water-Type, nothing suggests that their preferred habitat was near water but rather they were closer to Groudon's domain, so they could've adapted to the near constant harsh sunlight by developing an Ability that makes them stronger under it.

Of course, there is an elephant in the room to mention: Walking Wake, as it's the only Ancient Paradox that's Water-Type, which kinda goes against the theory's Water-Type point. And to that I say it's an exception and got its sun adaptiveness from some kind of connection to Ho-Oh, given it's (presumably) the ancestor of Suicune.

Did I word any of that weirdly? Probably. Anyways, let me know what you think of this idea! I'm gonna make it canon to my fic anyway.

Basically the journey of Cynthia as a trainer starting her journey.

What I really came to love about this fic is the world building aspects and the exploration of the legendaries in it. I can tell the author genuinely went into thought about how information and knowledge would develop from Cynthia's time to the present with the added benefit of explaining how the training works and how there is an interpersonal relationship between the Pokemon inside the team itself with the trainer being the anchor who makes them interact.

Another thing to like about it is that it doesn't assume the status quo because we're exploring the perspective of an amnesiac so his "understanding" of how the world works is no different from us. Considering all that I really liked how Myst in this always asks or takes input from the Pokemon itself as an equal rather than just as a trainer.

World building is an aspect for me that generally indicates how invested an author is into an idea or fandom. Pokemon is kinda in that grey zone where you can get away with a lot of outlandish stuff so setting the rules in terms of how everything works from moves, difficulty, legends and how the author takes this idea into a future chapter to incorporate it feels like the satisfactory payoff to me apart from the characters who develop themselves.

Fated from Balegyr-07 is also one of them fanfics I really liked tbh.

Anyways for recommendations just make sure it's a fic with the journey of a trainer whether it's Ash or an OC. It also doesn't have to be a Pokemon Trainer/champion journey. It can be a contest/showcase stuff too as long as it falls under the category of an adventure and has those elements above incorporated into it.

Although I do have a slight bias towards journeys with Ash in them but I'm not limited in reading just those. Any pairings work as long as it's not a harem or those 24 year old x 10 year old fics.

Bonus points if it has Cynthia as a protag/partner or a mentor in it. I love my queen.

Hey there. So I just wanna give some news regarding my Pokémon Rewrite AU. I‘m going to be making some changes and I have an official title for this AU. I also have a new story on Archive Of Our Own (or AO3 for short)! But I’m getting ahead of myself, let me explain.

Now THAT is going to be a different post entirely.

I’ve seen a lot of people, especially in fandom spaces, that for some reason refuse to read stories in first person. I’ve never understood why and as a writer it kinda sucks for me because first and even second person writing come naturally to me unlike third person, which Ive always struggled with.

First person comes so naturally to me that I constantly slip back into it by accident even when I’m trying to write in third. I’m currently trying to write a story in third person because of this (and also because it’s a good exercise to improve my writing) but it genuinely takes me like 4 times longer to write in third person.

Because of the difficulty I’ve been facing I was motivated to ask you guys, why? Why do so many of you prefer 3rd person so much, sometimes to the point where you refuse to read first person entirely?

I'd like some recs where the mc has a volcarona. Even better when Volcarona is not seen as just any other pokemon but has an almost legendary status :)

I know the English localization barely localized the Kansai dialect, but I use it often. I opt for the Southern accent that the English localization uses. Some characters (like Bill and Whitney) have thicker accents than most. Since they're from Johto, I also give May (who I always write as the Hoenn protagonist) and her mom as having a Southern drawl, but Norman has a less pronounced one.

Unova is of course NYC, Alola is Hawaii, and Orre is Arizona. That's pretty obligatory. They all have little quirks.

This is my first time actually trying to write fanfic. I only read it sometimes not often but I had an itch to try and write down my world and character that I've been building and building in the Pokémon franchise since I was about 11-ish.

I know it's not anywhere near perfect, so it could very well be trash, and this is only the first chapter. I tried to capture the start of my characters journey and how she is first introduced to the world of Pokemon itself.

Okay, so I'm trying to find this fic that I loved but forgot the title of. It's a delinquint girl and a pikachu in an alternate kalos, she finds and bonds with a Shiny Riolu and then kills the royal who tried to take it from her. She activates some prophecy thing because of the Riolu.

I'm thinking a lot about what pokemon would be great to have IRL and wondered if anyone else has any thoughts to share or pokemon you think would be awesome to see in a fic? I'm still in the middle of planning my one. For right now, I'm thinking of splitting them into different roles. For example, a Charizard is my elemental specialist, one of the teams vanguards and my mega (for now atleast). Mettagross for its incredible versitility in close, mid and long range combat, and its great potential as a mount, its telepathy, its teleportation, etc etc. Rotom for pretty obvious reasons. Those are what i have for now, i am thinking of adding a Palafin because ive never seen it in a fic before and i fucking love them.

What do you think? Id like to have a trapper, healer and some kind of ground/rock/underground pokemon as well. Zoroark and ditto are also two pokemon that are very high in my potential add ons to the team. I am not limiting myself to six pokemon, but will likely not go much beyond 12, if at all.

Hey there, how are you all? I kind of just stumbled into this world of Pokémon fanfiction, so I guess you could call me a newbie. I came here looking for help after another sub recommended it to me, so here I am!
I’m kind of a novice writer, even though I’ve already consumed a lot of literary content and other fanfics, so I came here to get help writing what would be my first fanfic since I like to listen and have various points of view
I want to explore the Age of Discovery, since it’s a topic I’ve rarely seen addressed. However, I realize I’ll have to tackle many heavy themes like slavery, rape, and others—since I don’t want to romanticize or downplay what actually happened—but many people might not like that
Another topic is Fakemon. Since this would be a new supercontinent, I plan to use several of them—what do you think of them? I like them, but many prefer only the canonical little monsters.
And finally—or at least this is what I’m going to discuss, but feel free to talk about or ask questions regarding other topics—the indigenous peoples who will serve as inspiration: I plan to draw inspiration from all the peoples who suffered during the Age of Discovery. Do you think that would be strange? Since there would be several very different races and cultures on the same continent.

TLDR: Question in last paragraph

I've been outlining the bones of a story I want to write about the journey of an OC I've developed who is a Dark Type specialist at the Champion/E4 level who is a first responder to violent and aggressive Pokémon outbreaks, including the rare legendary that lashes out near a town or settlement.

Anyway, I'm working on a small custom region (like a 6 badge gym circuit) that he goes to, and while I'm not using fakemon I am using regional variants. I want my character to have a pretty diverse team in terms of secondary typings and I went a little wild with ideas. Currently, two of the slots that I'm struggling to pull away from are a Water/Dark Feraligatr (quadraped with a larger/longer maw) and a Ice/Dark Lapras (aggressive from overpoaching and brutal environment, and larger spikes on its back). Land/sea/air travel are going to be major requirements for navigating the region, which is why I've developed both ideas out. Major issue is that they serve similar functions aside from one being a physical attacker and the other more of a special attacker.

I've really fallen in love with my ideas, but I'm also kicking myself. Especially since the more brutal environment of the region was inspired because I initially wanted my character to have a Hisuian Samurott without going to Sinnoh or using time shenanigans. And so the H-Samurrot conflicts with the Lapras idea, too. Less than the Feraligatr, but enough to give me a heachache.

So for you all, have you struggled with competing ideas for your fics? If so, how did you overcome them? Were you able to work them both into the story with little tension?

Ok, I know this is not standard, but I've got a weird craving for ocean stories, and Pokemon is my go-to fandom because it's so huge they have a bit of everything and I never run out of stuff.

Quality matters less because this is niche enough as is. Are there any stories, even one shots, that take place under the sea? Pokemon or human POV?

So I'm writing a story that's basically just showing off the personalities of four Gym Leaders in battle (original characters from a different Fandom), but I'm a little stuck on what moves to give their Pokémon...

I'm a big fan of Pokémon but I've never actually gotten very far into the games. Most of my experience is with the anime.

I know there are sites and stuff for this but I already checked Serebii and Pokémon Database and I mostly just ended up confused XD I'll probably look for a better site in the meantime.

I was just hoping some more experienced people could give me some advise on synergy and stuff and maybe what moves work better in written form VS in the actual game. Any help is appreciated...

Prologue:
There is a season of apples and pumpkins, of ghosts and dark things, of dragons and fairies floating on porches and store fronts. Costumes and decorations are but a brief depiction of the true state of things. But my eyes are open; we live in a perpetual Halloween.

The world is full of monsters, and catching them is my real test. Thankfully, I am not alone. Walking along side my partner, Agent Jah, I gruff “Welcome to the Alola region”. After a few moments of silence, and a couple deep breathes of fresh air, I muse that it’s good to finally have boots on the ground. Looking up from my device, I notice Jah has removed his “boots” and is walking this deteriorating pavement, leading towards the ocean, bare foot. “Chicken” he pitches with pointed finger. My eyes follow down a dirt road with tropical foliage and a rinky-dink chain barricade. A sun faded “private property, NO trespassing” sign is nailed to the post. I raise my handheld and peer through the display of the agencies software, revealing more than the fowls Jah has pointed out.  Native monsters appear on the screen. They are clean of the shadow taint though. I lower the instrument and fall back in line. We are running low on storage for these specimens, and besides, we must keep moving on if we have any hope of finding the professor, who’s last transmission was from nearby coordinates. The slight humidity bothers neither of us, nor, and more importantly, our critical tech. My handheld scans the surroundings; the 360 view shows a beautiful rugged horizon. The display shows a light rain, though it has yet to materialize in actuality. “I’m activating the route” I inform Jah with a few swipes and taps of the screen. We rely on the display to reveal what is naked to the eye.

So, I was working on the team for my story’s MC, and while looking through my plans, I realized that I intended to give him over 25 Pokémon throughout the course of the story, which spans multiple regions.

I’ve already figured out the names, backstories, character development, and battling styles for most of these Pokémon. However, since this is my first fic, I’m worried that managing such a large roster might be too much for me as a writer.

So, I wanted to ask: At what point do you think an MC has too many Pokémon? How does having such a large roster affect the story, particularly when it comes to character development, battles, and giving each Pokémon enough time to shine?

While he isn’t the main focus of the fic Ash Ketchum is a reoccurring character in it, often bothering my MC. If there was a case they were both on is there anything that would make Ash freeze at?
