What do you think separates a good hero call from unnecessary spew in the 2/5 universe?
9
u/Zeradine Feb 18 '25
If you stop calling all rivers immediately, you will likely increase your winrate by a lot.
5
u/thank_U_based_God Feb 18 '25
Yeah think Charlie said something like that on 3rd walking podcast that one year in LA he just decided to not call all river bets and his winrate increased 2bb/hour or something 😂😂😂

How did you combat the monotony of live poker when playing as a full time professional?
Additionally, do you think some people just “have it” when it comes to poker, and others can never reach an elite level of play?

Any insight into how Parx Tuesdays started? How did they become the epicenter for action on the east coast every single Tuesday?

What are your thoughts on Marc’s latest vid series he seems pretty concise and to the point with his info, do you thik his advice seems more radical and off base for the average live game 1/3 2/5

Goone did videos for CLP for a long time up until a few weeks ago. Im sure Bart thinks highly of the videos that Goone does
1
u/Zeradine Feb 18 '25
Just on the callin show yesterday he mentioned how they are friends and how highly he thinks of him as a player.

u/TheFinalInflation Feb 18 '25
Goone changed the game for all youtubers. They will be copying his playstyle 100% now.

u/lexicalsatire Feb 21 '25
I don't know. Possibly. But the difference between Goone and his stable/ others is he can execute his strategy. Look at Tommy on his channel rn. He tries to emulate HH but doesn't execute in a lot of spots / misses a lot of spots.

How much did you make playing poker last year and how much have you made in your lifetime playing poker?

Since the launch of BartBot and the newest N8ball course, what can subscribers expect next on the horizon for CLP?

Thank you for the discount, I may use it in the near future. How long will this be going on for? I want to improve my play at 1/3 live and will see if you have an A to Z course series for that and also PL or limt Omaha

u/CLSmith15 Feb 18 '25
Bart, your channel is amazing. Thanks for the deluge of instructive videos.
I've heard you talk about "chip spiking" countless times, but I feel like I still don't really understand the logic behind it. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. The idea is to use big denomination chips when you have a value hand, so that villain(s) will realize how large the pot is on future streets and call off lighter than they otherwise would? Are you not opening yourself to people overfolding exploitatively if they pick up on what you're doing?
1
u/DrunkGuy9million Feb 18 '25
Yep, that’s pretty much the idea. And yeah, it does make you exploitable, but frankly, anybody that you’re using this tactic against is unlikely to pick up on it.
1
u/lexicalsatire Feb 22 '25
Interesting. I play in a whale game and make sure to bet in round numbers only. They don't like the $5 and $10s, so I make sure to get the small denoms in on flop and turn, and river is always a denom of $100.
9
u/Rude_Neighborhood_12 Feb 18 '25
When should a relatively new player begin using solvers? Or should efforts be focused on other free resources available?
5
u/Senior-Purchase-6961 Feb 18 '25
Why do you think gto sizings (specifically smaller preflop raises) haven’t really leaked into live games? If we were to start using these smaller sizings, how might population adjust in response, and would it be detrimental to apply in these environments?
5
u/Xatron7 Feb 18 '25
What is your favorite call in hand?
What is the worst poker play you’ve ever made?
If money wasn’t involved in poker do you think you would still play for fun?
5
u/Senior-Purchase-6961 Feb 18 '25
I feel like a lot more players could be break-even or winning if they could just control their tilt. Do you agree with that, and how would you suggest they approach it?
Personally, I feel like there’s something I could tell myself to get back into a more rational and calculated state, but I haven’t found a way to reframe a significant loss in my mind that keeps me calm and playing well.

Where is the best place in the world for mid-high stakes cash games these days? West coast USA? Australia?

u/Bananarama_Vison Feb 18 '25
As a non American; why do people play sooo different in Texas???
9
u/aaaaaaaaaaaaa2 Feb 18 '25
Google "which states invest the least in education" to find out!

u/Bananarama_Vison Feb 18 '25
I don’t know, but my guess would actually be Oklahoma.
What is correct?

What are the three most reliable live tells that you see at 1/3 or 2/5 NLH?
What's the most speculative bluff that you've run in recent memory?
When will you be back playing on stream?
Thanks, I appreciate your call

How would you play live plo these days, specifically in texas the 1-2-5 or 2- 5 games?

u/JAT750 Feb 18 '25
What is your general approach to C-betting post flop?
Clearly it can be great to fast play some hands like sets and two pair, but what about when you whiff the flop? Is it mostly just considering board texture and comparing ranges?
Additionally, how does playing pots multiway affect your c-bet frequency? I play in Texas, so in a 1-2 game with a pre-flop raise to $10, we still usually see the pot go at least 4-ways.
This is a part of my game I'm really trying to improve, so thanks for your help.
3
u/Zeradine Feb 18 '25
He has a whole segment on that in his coursework, it's called the "cbet bluffing matrix". It's basically about taking into account number of players, position, stack depths, board texture and table image

Thanks Bart! Love your content. Have been frequenting Gate City mostly but agree that all are fairly easy. Have avoided Encore because of the rake but have heard from many the game there is juicy... I'll say hi if I catch you there!

Poker's close ties with no-edge gambling is a big obstacle socially. What's your best tip on how to convince non-poker players in your life that it's not degenerate gambling? My explanations of variance and EV and all that usually draws blank stares.

Bart, the people love their holdem I know, but lets spare a moment for good old 4 card PLO.
Is the meta for $1/2/5 PLO in 2025 basically still just your live holdem exploits on steroids? For example - only play hands with strong nuttiness pre, 3-bet liberally in position, opponents are always underbluffing turns, rivers, all checkraises and raises in general, and we can mix in some extra thin valuebets and bet/folds? Or what am I missing?
How do you make quick assessments on unknown players in a game that gets so few hands per hour?
2
u/theflamesweregolfin Feb 19 '25
Hi Bart,
How what adjustments do you make when you play against a new (to you) player who clearly knows who you are and watches your content. How do they tend to play against you?
2
u/Excellent-Weather-98 Feb 19 '25
As far as life philosophy goes, have you found any aspect of pursuing poker professionally to conflict with personal philosophy regarding life meaning or ethics? Would you recommend a future kid, family member, or friend to pursue poker professionally? Do you have any regrets in choosing this profession?
3
u/jakljakl Feb 18 '25
I’d like to understand more about forming reads on opponents play styles live. I travel often so I rarely get to play in the same place with the same people consistently. How do you feel confident on your reads in scenarios where you don’t get to play with someone for very long? or is that even a good approach in those circumstances?
2
u/ParticleDropp Feb 18 '25
What are your thoughts on the new Club WPT Gold site? Do you think more sites will follow with the "Sweeps coins" model? Their ambassadors push it pretty hard and Ive been playing since the soft launch. I would say the player pool is pretty soft compared to other online sites in the US. Thanks!

Bart what do you think about the future of poker in Texas? If legal gambling moves in will it lead to a large amount of whales fleeing the game for table games? Also will we see a decrease in PLO

What’s the reality these days of a guy leaving his $30-40 per hour blue collar job and making a better living playing $5/10 ect. ?
A lot of rooms run a couple 2/5 tables with some 5/10 here and there but it really seems like I would need to relocate to a different state to have 5/10 games running regularly.
Do you HAVE to get into private games to do really well?

Bring back low content coward
Also what is 5th street chicken actually? Does it apply when we are IP to the villain as well
3
u/ngmcs8203 Donkey since '05 Feb 18 '25
Fifth street chicken is when you make it look like you are going to call down on the river. After you have the betting lead and are raised, you are daring your opponent to bet again on the river. By looking like you are ready to call down, you are going to reduce their bluffing frequency. It can happen IP or OOP.

How do you think we can continue to grow the poker ecosystem? What barriers do you think are preventing people from getting casually interested in poker, or from translating casual interest into frequent live play? What factors currently exist do you think are helping to grow the poker ecosystem?
1
u/11chickens Feb 18 '25
You've mentioned many times that you are not into reading live tells (aside from bet timing). What ultimately lead you to this decision? A lot of other pros preach about them, but you dismiss them quite quickly.

u/Moonbar5 Feb 18 '25
What do you think are the best poker rooms in the PNW?

u/InternalFeature261 Feb 19 '25
lol there are no great poker rooms in Washington State for action because of the 300 max bet rule. gotta go to portland and even then the pickings are slim

the max bet is a bitch but fortune is notoriously soft. Lots of asian maniacs an always action.

I have about an hour per day to dedicate to poker content, studying, and improving my game. I try to play live at the casinos I have access to at least once per week and I am working to move from 1/3 to 2/5 as I build a bankroll.
I was wondering if you could go into some detail about how to efficiently use my time each week for improving my game? I find it difficult to integrate new knowledge into my strategy because I have very limited time to practice and I find that most content on YouTube or Reddit is more entertaining than educational.
Thanks for taking our questions and thanks for the content on your channel. I look forward to the new video!

Oh sorry, I meant like how do you manage the call-in, like if the guy who called into the show is clearly a losing player, you seem to be good at not just telling him "hey buddy this HH is horrible"
1
u/methodmanfan Feb 19 '25
Hi u/CLPBart what are your thoughts on pot limit Omaha hi/lo games? I have transitioned to these recently and they are insanely profitable but hard to find.
I am playing in Blackhawk but do you know where else they run?
1
1
u/Spleebler Feb 19 '25
For a recreational player looking to play for profit, what would your dedicated bankroll be for 2/5 (not asking about 1/3 since you're already recommended people to race to the $5 blind level)?
Is it worth it to transition to PLO in a live environment to play for profit? Any idea what your recommended bankroll size for this would be as well?
At what point do you consider rake to be unbeatable? I am located in Canada and the nearest rooms are 10% up to $20 with a $2 BBJP drop ($1 local, $1 multi-site (a bad beat jackpot across all their properties)).
1
u/Excellent-Weather-98 Feb 19 '25
I'm beating 1/3 for $35 an hour over roughly 1000 hours, and I'm losing in 2/5 at -$30 an hour over roughly 300 hours.
In order to improve my hourly should I continue to shot take, pursue some other game format of poker, or pursue some other medium within poker?
1
u/Michael11304 Feb 21 '25
Do you still enjoy playing? Did you ever “fall in love” with the game or do you see it strictly as a way to make money?

u/Pathomator Feb 18 '25
I’m a 20 year old college student in Dallas and I’m about to pull the trigger on becoming a part time poker pro starting at 1/2 and seeing where things take me. I’ve always been passionate about math, and so when I got into poker last spring, I really enjoyed the theory and math aspect of the game. I know some people at my school that have gone down a similar path and succeeded, and also met people that turned out to be useful for internships and careers outside of poker. I’m definitely at a point where I’m trying to figure out what I want to pursue as a career and a person, so I would like to ask what connections and opportunities you have seen or think are out there in the poker world for someone like me? Also, any general poker advice for Dallas 1/2 so I don’t go broke is much appreciated, although I bet a lot of people will be looking for that and that you already have a few videos of advice for similar situations. Thank you!

Bart has formula answers for everything. If you are playing $2/5 or below he doesn't respect you or the game you play and his answer will reflect that.
He truly believes people play only suited connectors, not the off suit varieties.
He is out of touch with low stakes.
If you have a question pertaining to a low stakes game you are better off friending someone in your player pool who you respect and discussing hands with him or her.

u/aaaaaaaaaaaaa2 Feb 19 '25
Christ what a shit AMA like half the responses are just telling people to indefinitely watch his YouTube channel for the answer to the question they asked. I know AMAs are usually just to try to push traffic somewhere else but could it not be so obvious please thanks

'Hi guys. Thanks for joining this thread. Like I said I've been a big fan of r/poker now for many years and one of the mods here gave me the opportunity to do an AMA.
I am going to be taking what I think are the best questions in this thread and recording video answers for them. We will put together one video, similar to the way that the YT channel Wired has experts answer questions. I will also do my best to answer other questions below within the comments of this thread.'
