No Paywall GOP lawmakers bash Trump’s decision to waive Russia sanctions: ‘Beyond irresponsible’

u/gwsth 6h ago edited 6h ago
If only the GOP had the power to, you know, do something about it.
•
u/Honest-Reflection667 6h ago
Russia literally is helping iran kill us soldiers and trump does this to help his boss, i hate when ppl say hes helping America, he doesnt give a sht about Americans.

u/ObviouslyRealPerson 6h ago
If only they didn't abdicate all of their power to a cult leader
Now they only have the ability to shake their fists when it doesn't anger their tyrannical cult leader too much
If it does, then they sit down and shut up
•
u/FenPhen 6h ago
If only they didn't abdicate all of their power
They did not abdicate all their power. They still have the power to impeach and convict.
They aren't because this is what Republicans want.
•
u/ObviouslyRealPerson 6h ago
They could. But they can't because the MAGA cult base would eat them alive
Not even metaphorically
Trump could tell them to cannibalize them alive and they'd wave Trump flags while they did it on the floor of the Capitol building
These Republicans could have pushed back a long time ago, but instead they abdicated their power by embracing it

US at war with Iran.
Russia supports Iran.
US buys oil from and drops economic sanctions against sending billions $$$ to Russia.
US is funding war against itself.
Fucking brilliant.
•
u/mattgen88 New York 6h ago
The Iran war ran up the price of oil for Russia. Fortunately Ukraine is aware of the strategy and started taking out Russian oil infrastructure, negating their gains.
•
u/Cy_098 North Carolina 6h ago
I don't understand why Trump thinks Ukraine is doing a disservice by taking out their energy infrastructure. Russia has destroyed a lot of Ukraine's infrastructure.. so what are they supposed to do? Just sit there?? That's the thing. Trump is actively supporting Putin and I would not be surprised if he came and just said that. He's an ally of the Russians, not an ally of the Ukrainian people and government who are trying so hard to free themselves from the Putin regime
•
u/mattgen88 New York 6h ago
Because trump has proven time and time again that he's a Russian asset...
•
u/PinHaunting7192 4h ago edited 4h ago
I don't understand why Trump thinks Ukraine is doing a disservice by taking out their energy infrastructure.
Because it hurts the wallet of Trump's best friend. That's why.
And Ukraine isn't going to stop. He tried to stop their intel. He stopped financial aid (mostly). He pulled sanctions. He has zero leverage left over Ukraine. If the options are do what Trump says and get screwed or hurt Trump and get screwed, might as well do as much damage to him before the midterms as possible.
•
u/AnAcceptableUserName Virginia 2h ago edited 2h ago
What really gets me about the whole thing: on one hand you have walking vetbro stereotype Hegseth rebranding the DoD as Department of War, calling for "no more nonsense" - just lethality and total warfare. Trump singing a similar tune as he idly muses about wiping out Iran as a civilization.
Then when Ukraine goes after legit strategic targets, the same people and their apologists suddenly change tune. Oh no, how could they go after oil refineries? The humanity!
It just rings false coming from the same admin idly throwing around terms like "no quarter" and casual threats of genocide in Iran. Like, we recently flattened a girls' school and the same guys responsible for that are tut-tutting over fires at Russian oil plants. Oh, my pearls!
•
u/Squid_of_the_Now 6h ago
Even better, Iran is sending oil to Russia, so we're buying Iranian oil, refined into diesel by Russia, while fighting Iran and lifting sanctions on Russia.
MAGA: "YOU HAVE TDS!!!"
•
u/Cy_098 North Carolina 6h ago
MAGA can say what they want but they themselves are mentally ill and get outraged when people call them out.. they never like being held accountable
•
u/Squid_of_the_Now 5h ago
Because they're psychotic. The whole point of MAGA is allowing stunted, psychotic, abusive bastards to do what they want with no accountability.
•
u/Even-Cartographer864 6h ago
To be fair trump did say he doesn’t believe US intel agencies but believes Putin, so to MAGA this makes a lot of sense
•
u/Efficient_Resist_287 4h ago
The GOP Congress acts shocked today when it allowed this fiasco to proceed from day 1…
Did the GOP Congress stopped Hegseth nomination?
Did the GOP Congress stood up to the undeclared war against Iran?
Did the GOP Congress stood up against Trump Tariffs fiasco?
•
u/Cy_098 North Carolina 6h ago
Pretty much.
The fact that he effectively neturalized the sanctions bill just tells you, he isn't serious about ending the war or bringing down gas prices.. he is serious when it comes to making sure he helps our adversaries as much as possible
•
u/Atrocious_Algae81 Washington 3h ago
The fact that he just waived a congress passed bill is even more worrisome because he won't listen to congress even if the Dems get control.
•

u/camshun7 4h ago
I dont care what the slow burn tossers at GOP say,
Look forward to seeing and witnessing their actions.
I will not hold my breathe
•
u/rooplstilskin 1h ago
This is grandstanding.
Everyone was warned this was in the bill. They said it would give too much power to the president.
The republicans specifically amended it, right before passing (with only 135 voting yes, out of 430):
"Jonathan Finer, former principal deputy national security adviser under President Joe Biden, said that the bill "includes no sanctions authorities the president doesn't already have, lets him off the hook with a waiver to avoid using them, and gives him enormous authorities to tariff U.S. partners and allies up to 100%, largely at his discretion."\8])"

Also screwing over NATO allies in the abandonment of Ukraine. This admin is the literal opposite of what we built from WWII.
•
u/Significant_Cup_238 6h ago
GOP Lawmakers could stop this at any time, but they don't. That means they're okay with it, even if they whine.
•
u/Accidental-Hyzer Massachusetts 6h ago
Yup, they could get together and give him an ultimatum: reverse course or we impeach and remove you. But they don’t and won’t, so they are both complicit and tacitly endorsing it.
•
•
u/SpeaksSouthern 5h ago
GOP members whipped Fetterman to vote for the war they want this war more than they love America
•
u/ElderSmackJack 5h ago
Oversimplifications like this are not helpful.
•
u/make_me_breakfast 5h ago
The truth isnt helpful?
•
u/ElderSmackJack 5h ago
It’s an oversimplification of a complex issue, so yes, it isn’t helpful. But silly me for expecting deeper understandings on Reddit.
•
u/make_me_breakfast 5h ago
What’s the deeper issue since you’re so wise?
•
u/ElderSmackJack 5h ago
“They could stop this at any time.” No, they couldn’t, particularly when what he did this time was a power the law gave him. It would require additional legislation, which would take time. There is also bipartisan legislation attempting to at least fix the Diesel thing, but again, that takes TIME. Saying “they’re okay with it” because they haven’t had the chance to do even that step is another piece of it. Because how dare they not have something to stop this in the few hours since it happened?
But again, silly me for wanting Reddit to think beyond superficiality.
•
u/inquisitive_guy_0_1 I voted 3h ago
They could impeach and convict him immediately if they wanted to. They are making the choice not to.
So yes, they could stop this at any time that they wanted to start looking out for their own country as opposed to their deranged cult leader who is beholden to Russia.
•
u/bitter-peppers 6h ago
I have no idea why people don't see that Trump and his allies are not patriots, they're traitors. Tyrants who enrich and engorge themselves with the hardworking tax dollars of the American people. They're cartoon villains. The only thing they lack is a moustache to twirl.
•
u/ddr1ver 6h ago
At least this puts the “Russia hoax” argument to rest.
•
•
u/Only-Lavenderr 6h ago
Too little too late. GOP lawmakers “bashing” Trump now after 8 years of letting him suck up to Putin? Give me a break. Trump called Putin a genius, took Putin’s side over our own intelligence in Helsinki, held up aid to Ukraine to extort them, and withheld intel now. He is a Russian asset, everyone knows it, and these GOP cowards only speak up when it’s safe for their re-election. They built this monster.
•

•
u/Dharmabud 6h ago
He needs Russia to help him sow confusion for the midterms. By the way whatever happened to him ending the war within 24 hours like he said he would?

What part of enforcing a law passed 86-11 by the Senate does the President and his advisors not understand? It’s unconscionable that this administration is capitulating to a Russian dictator who illegally invaded Ukraine and butchers innocent civilians every single day,” Sen. Tillis wrote on the social platform X.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) posted the news on social media Saturday morning saying, “Lindsey would be appalled.”
“The President is prolonging the war, not ending it,” Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) wrote on social media, referring to Friday’s executive order
It's just appalling to me that not every Republican is standing against the administration for doing this. They are all traitors. Trump, and his Republican friends and his MAGA supporters, are all traitors and an enemy of our country. They have given Russia and North Korea plenty of free passes.. they are not our friends. What fucking part of that do these fools not understand?
•
u/FenPhen 6h ago
Where is Darline Graham?
She chastised Jack Smith claiming Smith's investigation of Trump caused her dear brother Lindsey undue stress because his name showed up on phone records.
How does she feel about Trump openly pissing on Lindsey's legacy?
•
•
u/Cy_098 North Carolina 6h ago
Darline? That devil doesn't even give a shit about Lindsey, even though he's dead.. otherwise she would not be sitting here bootlicking the president whenever and wherever possible. She should not be nor does she deserve to be anywhere around the Senate
But then again, Darline and Lindsey are all one of the same..

GOP lawmakers bash Trump’s decision to waive Russia sanctions: ‘Beyond irresponsible’
Treacherous, not irresponsible.
Those that defend traitors, face the same charge.
•
u/KazTheMerc 6h ago
Republicans, which control the House, Senate, Congress, and the SCOTUS intentionally wrote-in provisions to the bill they passed to allow Trump to do exactly what he did...
...and then he did it.
This is my Shocked Pikachu Face.

Do something about it then. You just need a couple GOP to join you to get rid of him, because most of the Dems are ready to oust him.
•
u/Ok_Conversation9750 6h ago
Translation: GOP makes noise pretending to be appalled to appease their constituents while doing absolutely nothing to stop him. Vote blue or say goodbye to the America we've known for 250 years.

u/AdventurousLet548 3h ago
Instead of bashing it, why don't you do something about it? You have the power to impeach Trump! Oh wait, your power and money is more important.
•
u/moviefan8 6h ago
I haven't seen any comments from Darlene Graham. I wonder is she is waiting for Trump to tell her what to think.

Let’s see. Instead of saying “this is bad. He shouldn’t be doing this” how about DO SOMETHING! Go back in session immediately and vote to put sanctions back in. And file a motion to overturn the EO immediately.
They act like they have no power and cede to Trump. That’s why it’s time to vote them all out. Period. They have no backbone and morals and any real pretend they are powerless.
Collins. Vote her out.
Marshall. Vote him out
Rogers. Graham. All of them. You don’t get a free pass on this one. You either do something. Or you should go home. This is how democracy works

Tired of this shit. Trump can be irresponsible with SCOTUS' blessing because GOP members of Congress let him.
