Actually she's been living in LA for the last 6 or so years after marrying Mark Foster of Foster The People, I'd imagine she was a passenger princess and he was doing all the driving lol. Ever since they split, she wants to go back to New York, likely for this reason.
Exactly, I always find it super weird when people license-shame online. Not everyone lives in the boonies where you need to drive 40 minutes to get gas! Iām from NY and only about half the people in my graduating class had their licenses. If you knew you were going to or around NYC for college, you didnāt bother.
Iām from the UK and in the north where most people have a license and car (most houses have multiple cars) and even I donāt expect people from elsewhere to just have a licence as standard. It makes sense in cities for it to never become a need.
I found the title of this post odd for that reason, I donāt find that anything of note at all, and even less so for a celebrity.
To be fair, in the US you donāt have to live in āthe booniesā to need a license for most everyday activities. NYC is one of very few places in the country where itās practical for the average person to not have a driverās license.
Itās accurate though. People get so weird when you tell them you donāt have a license. ETA: At least in the states, they do. No idea what other people experience elsewhere.
Yep. 28 and no license here, the looks I get are crazy š Plus idc if I sound dramatic, but when jobs require you to have a license for a position that has nothing to do with driving, it feels discriminatory lmao. Like Iāve survived this long without one, I can get to the job place without oneā¦
My hubby didn't learn how to drive until he was twenty-eight, I was the one who taught him.
I was twenty-one, when I taught myself how to drive. Everyone has a reason for why they do or don't have a licence and there's really no reason to shame them. Especially when they don't feel comfortable or know they're not mature enough to drive yet.
Spot on, as someone who also hasnāt gotten their license itās been super difficult since i got into a car accident a year ago. Thatās why i hate when people make others feel less for not having a driverās license
Which is totally fair and since she must travel a lot for work I wonder if her manager/assistant/etc just drives her around instead of her needing to drive
Thing is, she's been living in LA for the last 6 or so years, and her former husband mostly used to drive her around. She's still technically lives in LA atm.
My friendās husband is well into his 50s and she has to rent the car any time they travel because heās never had a license having lived in NYC basically his whole life
can relate, i was gonna get mine but then i moved to a city with some of the best public transport ever lmao š ill always be half of the clueless qoute ā¤ļø
I am a recent later in life drivers license getter and the reactions are always so funny and kind of delightful. Multiple sets of friendsā parents congratulated me when they saw me. My friends took me out for a drink to get carded with my DL. People venmoād me gas money.
You got this Julia. You can do it! I believe in you!!
Turn the big wheel to go left or right. Tall rectangle goes faster, short rectangle goes slower. If thereās a third rectangle get out and reset the difficulty.
Being scared has always been my reason not to as well but Iāve got 3 kids now so I have to put my big girl pants on and do it! And I will say the more you practice the easier it gets, you can do it:)
Yeah, I have a young daughter now and itās just apparent that I need the skill to help her and also itās probably a good skill as a woman to not end up stranded.
Plus Deutsche Bahn is garbage and Iām tired of having mental breakdowns on the train tracks š
It was very inspiring to me too :) She was kind of pushed into a situation that gave her that extra motivation - myself and my dad were used to driving her around, no complaints whatsoever, but her job was changing locations and there was no way she could walk to it anymore. She was going to have to rely on other people, but it was inconvenient (and I don't live near her anymore.)
Suddenly, she surprised us with a picture of her holding her new drivers licence lol. The added independence it's given her has been amazing.
same girl, people keep asking me when iām gonna get my license and start driving and i always respond āwhoās gonna pay for that??ā i canāt afford to pay my basic life bills AND also eat for the month, whyyyyyy would i introduce a brand new expense??
This is legit why that time from a few years ago where I saw the vid of Timothee Chalamet driving through the city and a crowd formed around his car at a light or when he was stopped, I was like, "Wow, he's a city kid and he's not apprehensive about driving in the city? That's impressive. I don't like driving period and having a crowd form is my nightmare." And my friends and family totally made fun of me for still being a wimp if I have to drive in the city and admiring something tons of people do every day. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FOREVER.
I have driven in NYC, Miami, Atlanta GA, Birmingham AL, the Midwest, and various points in between
Atlanta and Birmingham are the worst, hands down.
NYC is aggressive but the drivers are pretty predictable because they are self-interested and don't want to get hurt or damage their own cars. Miami is aggressive and might clip your wing mirror, but they have a decent sense of self preservation most of the time.
The Southerners are ready to meet Jesus any minute and don't care if they take you out, too.Ā
She is! She's in a new miniseries called The Altruists, where she'll be playing Caroline Ellison, the gf of Sam Bankman-Fried of the FTX scandal fame. It's coming out on the 19th of November I believe.
Is this very unusual in America? I know more people that don't drive than do. Also, unrelated but she is absolutely beautiful. She has a very naturally classy, classic old Hollywood look to her.Ā
They've completely stopped selling subcompacts and other affordable, low price cars in the US market. In the same breath, as you said, the vast majority of people live where a car is required for the basic necessities of survival. It's a huge problem.
A lot of jobs won't even hire you if you lack "reliable transportation" which btw excludes public transit as it's unreliable in most cities or incredibly inefficient.Ā
Yes, itās very unusual. A lot of the commenters here are making it out to be a ācity vs. ruralā thing but even that isnāt very accurate ā NYC is one of very few cities with robust public transportation. In just about every part of the country that isnāt NYC, from small towns and rural areas to suburbs and most cities, it is far more common to have a driverās license. Even in NYC, more than 50% of adults have a driverās license and itās over 90% nationwide.
No not everywhere like NYC where people use public transportation, but in LA, itās pretty unusual because you basically have to have a car to go anywhere or get to places on time at least. Our public transportation here is extremely unreliable.
I was trying to tell my mom and sister how people who live around more public transit donāt need to learn how to drive and they werenāt convinced? Every where I live is so spread out and thereās no good transit or a train system so I had to learn to go to Uni 45 minutes (by driving) away.
Anyways, my sisters in her late 30s and canāt drive. Itās a problem.
Same! Iāve pretty much walked everywhere since middle school. Only recently started to take the bus and train because Iām not walking 25 miles to work (although, my first week I walked half of that absentmindedly, so my ride wouldnāt have to drive so far out to pick me up.)
I know how to drive, being behind the wheel just stresses me out and I DONāT fucking like it. No grand desire to obtain it either, cause cars are expensive and Iām not interested in taking that on.
What shit stain strip mall stroad-side part of America do you live in that you donāt know that people live lives far more vibrant than yours in people-centered car-free places you thought only existed on television?
No, she is from the Tri-State area. It really isn't that unusual for kids who grew up taking the subway, buses, or trains to never bother with a driver's license.
I didnt get my full licence until 25, my mum got hers at 32. I grew up in a place with good public transport (same with mum but different countries). It isnt that crazy if you live in a city with public transportĀ
Btw, that user is the biggest Mark Foster fangirl. She's going around saying the same thing just because she seperated from him, what's funny is that Mark Foster himself signed that letter, so really she's just being a massive hypocrite.
Like you, I'm an anti-Zionist. But I asked you a question and you evaded it because you know that her signing a letter along with many of her peers isn't all that loathsome.
Has she said or done anything since signing that letter? That's what I'm asking.
I donāt believe she has. Her mother is Israeli and she spoke about Israel quite a few times before Oct 7, but has been pretty quiet about it since the letter.
Dude, that letter was framing the conflict in a way that humanized Israeli victims while reducing Palestinian suffering to the actions of Hamas and leaving Israel's role largely outside the frame?!?
All I was "attempting to do" was understand whether Garner is a) a regular Hollywood liberal who is easily convinced by broad settler colonial rhetoric into a decision that ages horribly, or b) an outspoken Zionist.
Those things are obviously different and will affect how most people see Garner even if both lead to the same feelings for you.
That user is a Mark Foster fangirl btw, she's been saying that on all the posts related to Julia just because she seperated from him recently. What's funny is he also signed the same letter she did. Absolute hypocrite.
Yep I am more than happy to expose this woman who is not doing any of this in good faith whatsoever. She's started doing all of this ever since they split up. I've found screenshots of her being a fanboy to him unashamedly, and again, need I remind you, he also signed that letter, yet she will never call him a zionist.
Her mother is Israeli. Immediately after the October 7 attacks she was a signer of an open letter calling for the release of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas and thanking Biden for his support of the Jewish people. AFAIK sheās not celebrated the genocide or called for support of the IDF, etc.
Because Julia seperated from Mark Foster of Foster The People. And that user is the biggest fangirl of him, and it's funny cause Mark also signed that same letter she did, so really the user is being a hypocrite.
