I feel Dolly was Miley’s safe space. Always supportive, loving and encouraging her to be herself.

316

u/snarkaluff 8h ago

Especially considering how fucking crazy both her parents are. She probably saw Dolly like another parent, one she could actually count on and go to for guidance

99

u/kermi3_4488 We Should All Know Less About Each Other 7h ago

Oh 100%!!!! I saw that clip a few months ago of her mother admitting she was living vicariously through Miley, and Miley was living her dream.

…..and then there’s Billy Ray…..

Those two are fucking odd aa shit…

35

u/byebyebirdie123 8h ago

So the same thing Dolly was for so many of us as well- except it was literal for Miley

Imagine having been so lucky to have Dolly Parton as your godmother. Miley must have the most precious memories of her.

158

u/iama_jellyfish 9h ago

When I heard the news Dolly Parton died the first person I thought of was Miley. They had such a lovely bond, she must be hurting a lot.

95

u/AdorableBunnies go girl, give us nothing šŸ˜ 11h ago

One of the few people I want to hear from about Dolly’s death. I hope she’s doing well.

95

u/sal-ads 12h ago

Dolly being gone still feels unreal

This was super moving. You can tell how much she loved her. I hope they do see each other again someday ā¤ļø rip dolly

Some of these comments on the Miley posts are weird and cruel to someone who just lost their Godmother.

It’s very odd. Dolly Parton has been in her life forever- it’s unsurprising that she’s mourning her.

199

u/melodramaticmoon 12h ago

They’re very lucky to have never lost someone they love so dearly to a cruel disease like cancer.

Was that before or after a much older Amanda Bynes insulted her on Twitter? Anyhow, that’s not really relevant as the post is about her mourning Dolly. Does that not matter because she was ā€˜mean’ to someone when Obama was still in office?

25

u/igorific8019 9h ago

Oh Miley. My heart BREAKS for you.

26

u/Neither_Complaint938 8h ago

She was really her fairy god mother šŸ’•

156

u/nothanksthesequel 12h ago

maybe this is me over-anticipating a reaction because of one shitty gif but don't just read the title y'all. she's saying their relationship is eternal - that not even death can keep them apart.

Miley has always looked a lot like Tish, but you can see it especially in this clip!

2

u/ConsciousAd3109 3h ago

Which makes it even more hilarious when that random woman said she was Miley’s real mother

•

u/vewywascallywabbit Mawwaige is wot bwings us togevah tovay. Wuve, twue wuve šŸ’“ 2h ago

Lmao, you honestly get some nutty people!

33

u/lilac-bunni 11h ago

Their bond is so special, and you can truly feel the love and respect Miley has for Dolly in such a beautiful and meaningful tribute.

13

u/BigandBisexual 8h ago

Losing Dolly felt like a light flickering out for the world to see. I can't imagine the pain of losing her as someone who knew her so closely.

10

u/SAINTnumberFIVE 8h ago

My mom met Dolly Parton in the 80s. She was a truly kind lady.

29

u/I_am_albatross 10h ago

Dolly's catalog is in a safe pair of hands with Miley :)

3

u/melizivey 8h ago

I’m confused, what do you mean?

9

u/PatriciaMorticia Burlesque cat Taylor Swift shaking her cat titties 🐱 4h ago

I think Dolly left Miley the rights to her music catalogue when she passed.

•

u/sausagekng 1h ago

People really just make shit up

•

u/melizivey 18m ago

I don’t think she did. Miley isn’t in charge of the estate and Dolly’s will (which I assume she had) hasn’t been made public.
Whoever controls the estate probably controls the music too. And unless someone on her team says differently, we shouldn’t assume

•

u/Hobobo2024 1h ago

Are you sure. Id think shed give it to her leech of a family since they need the money more.

-57

u/ImTooSaxy 7h ago

Gross. Miley Cyrus is nothing like Dolly Parton.

30

u/caryn1477 6h ago

Do you not know that Miley Cyrus is her goddaughter?

-30

u/ImTooSaxy 5h ago

Fully aware. Miley just isn't a worthy successor to Dolly's legacy.

21

u/MKUltra16 5h ago

Either you love Dolly too much or you love Miley too little. We don’t know them. It’s between Dolly and Miley.

13

u/Bringbackemo 3h ago

Well Dolly did feel like she was and has said so

•

u/hbomb9410 56m ago

Dolly obviously believed she was, so your opinion is irrelevant.

24

u/Honest_Abyss 6h ago

Miley was basically raised by Dolly, they are very alike. You’re very wrong.

-20

u/ImTooSaxy 5h ago

That's hilarious. No, Miley was not raised by Dolly. Dolly was certainly involved in her life when she was younger, but Tish and Billy Ray raised Miley. Stop trying to sugar-coat Miley.

15

u/MysteriousAccount572 4h ago

look, for a young woman who grew up in the public eye and never had a chance to be a kid, was horrifically criticized every time she breathed, and went through all her awkward edgy teenage shit in front of millions - miley's doing just fine. she's grown up into a smart, well-spoken, and humble woman and dolly was damn proud of her.

i agree: dolly didn't "raise" her - but calling her "gross" and saying they're nothing alike is to spit on dolly's grave. if you said that in front of her, she'd laugh in your face - in that sweet way of hers - and find a kind way of letting you know you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

-6

u/ImTooSaxy 4h ago

And Tom and Rita raised Chet Hanks. They're not the same people, or even similar people in any way, and that's okay, but if Chet opened up every concert talking about the memory of his dad it would seem a little insincere and more of a sympathy vote.

13

u/MysteriousAccount572 3h ago

what the fuck?

dolly hasn't even been in the ground for two months.

how long do YOU feel is appropriate for a person to struggle with the death of a parental figure? fuck outta here. what a disgusting sentiment.

if miley is still crying publicly in 2 years, then let's talk. but less than 2 months out, this viewpoint is completely inhuman and disturbing.

10

u/Twitter_2006 9h ago

Rest in Peace, Dolly.

18

u/Wildflower_Dancing78 12h ago

dolly truly was one of the greatest songwriters to ever do it <3

10

u/Peeezer3 8h ago

The idea you couldn't be close with your God parent is awful. My God Father is the first person I'd call without my actual parents around. Just because someone has a PR team doesnt mean they're not still a human.

u/lonely_monkee 12h ago

Yes, like 95% of people say it that way round (despite being grammatically frowned upon)

16

u/Effective-Big8158 11h ago

its vary common even if it's technically wrong. english is easy to learn but difficult to master

5

u/igaveuponausername 12h ago

Okay, so, thank you for asking this. I literally looked this up last week because I’d had enough of ā€œme and Xā€ statements… my head clocks it IMMEDIATELY and i can’t stand it.

The difference is subject (doing the action) vs object (receiving the action)!!

Subject: Jack and I tied the race!

Object: The competition rewarded me and Jack trophies of participation.

I still hate it, haha. But that’s the difference.

32

u/DopeAndDiamonds_ 12h ago

It also irks me when people use ā€œIā€ in all cases when ā€œmeā€ is grammatically appropriate in many, like in your second example

3

u/Majestic-Bug9966 A straight dude just nervously poking around here... 12h ago

Oh, hear, hear!!!

Many people seem to have had it hammered into them to not say "me and X", so they think that "X and I" (but magically never "I and X") is universally the right choice. So they'll say absurd things like, "The drinks are for Jessica and I."

"Who" versus "that" versus "whom" is also a mess.

Mind you, my own language knowledge and skills are nowhere near where I want them to be, despite English being my primary language.

8

u/Dependent_Ad5451 find me at whole foods, bitch 11h ago

An even easier way to differentiate is taking the other name out. So, using your example:

I tied the race! vs Me tied the race!Ā

The competition rewarded me trophies of participation. vs The competition rewarded I trophies of participation.

7

u/Reasonable-Mess3070 10h ago

Im ngl this is the only way I can do it. This is one of those things my brain struggles with. I also struggle with affect/effect

-6

u/ImTooSaxy 6h ago

I think Dolly tried really hard with Miley, and opened a lot of doors for Miley, but Miley is still Miley. Billy Ray and Tish aren't good people or good parents.

-42

u/cptcook717 11h ago

You’re projecting how YOU would feel onto Miley but you don’t know her. She could be capitalizing on the opportunity to help her brand thats normal for celebs and people with PR teams. Both can be true.

26

u/vewywascallywabbit Mawwaige is wot bwings us togevah tovay. Wuve, twue wuve šŸ’“ 11h ago

Do you think Miley needs to capitalise grief or whatever to promote her brand? She has been well-known for a long time, she isn't an up and coming artist who needs clout or a sob story to drum up publicity.

You're probably projecting what you'd do if you were a celebrity or a person with a PR team. Miley and Dolly were close and both spoke highly of each other publically.

-26

u/cptcook717 10h ago

Yes I do people capitalize off of tragedy all the time, I can’t speak for her specifically neither can you but it’s not out of the realm of possibility duh

17

u/vewywascallywabbit Mawwaige is wot bwings us togevah tovay. Wuve, twue wuve šŸ’“ 10h ago

It is very much out of the realm for someone like Miley, you merely need to see her social media. Her grief is real. Who are you surrounding yourself with that you're adamant that people capitalise from a tragedy all the time? Whatever happened to assuming the best of another, regardless or their celebrity status or lack of?

People forget celebrities are human beings who feel too.

It litteraly was her godmother, she has been singing Dolly's songs for years, there are tons of ́pictures of them together... she is probably more affected by her death than 99% of the people out there.

36

u/Extension_Big5205 12h ago

Dolly is literally her god mother. That woman raised herĀ

-43

u/holly-flannigan-slut 11h ago

No she didnt lol. She was her godmother, thats true. Dolly and her dad where industry friends.

35

u/Extension_Big5205 11h ago

She has literally talked about how dolly has been in her life since she was little. Dolly is also her god motherĀ

17

u/Technical_Yak_3271 11h ago

how do you know what she did or didn’t do? were you there?

34

u/SuccessOk7850 You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 12h ago

Dolly was her godmother, she’s affected by her death because that’s her family.

u/No-Physics1146 10h ago

There’s no need to be this cynical. It’s clear they were close and she’s allowed to grieve publicly.

3

u/Red-Cloud-44 7h ago

You got your previous comments deleted, but you just keep going. Tell us how Miley hurt you LOLĀ

-10

u/cptcook717 11h ago

Because it is. It’s a concert she’s LITERALLY performing.

Now that’s the correct use of the word LITERALLY

-96

u/4ellights 10h ago

I don't see any tears?

36

u/Pinksamuraiiiii I don’t know her šŸ’… 9h ago

Eww at your comment. How embarrassing for you. If I were you, I’d delete this.

6

u/kgal1298 Confidence is 10% work and 90% delusion 4h ago

There’s other angles but she was crying before she started talking I was at the concert and it was evident. People in closer rows have the full talk and you can see it.

•

u/CodeNameNo-1 1h ago

The performative crocodile tears are so unnecessary.

Godmother isn't this massive thing it's being made out to be, as someone Catholic. Her parents were very smart in capitalising on their relationship with DP where they were able to ask her to stand for Miley but honestly most people never really grow up or know their Godparents. You just need to have 2 people on the alter during the Christening, so many people just pick those who can attend.

Miley's taking it hard because of all the other reasons, but just wanted to clear it up.

67

u/OowlSun they act like im not in full control of where i throw this cooch 11h ago

Some people are super close to their godparents. There probably is no other reason- she was a part of Miley’s family and from what I heard Dolly was a loving and caring person. It can be that simple.

46

u/teetertot_420 9h ago

Not sure what you think you’re ā€œcleaning upā€ or why you feel like you can speak for everyone who has godparents.

My godparents lived next door to us until I was 14 and they had a job opportunity. I saw them basically every other day and even after they moved I got handed the house phone because they wanted to know how I was doing & they missed me.

It’s really gross you’re talking about capitalization.

Some people have a relationship with their godparents. Apparently this is news to you.

27

u/89764637527 8h ago

You’re not cleaning anything up, you just think your Catholic definition of Godparent is the only correct one. Probably happens a lot.

19

u/Submischievous 8h ago

...okay? Cousins by standard definition are not a "close" relative but when one of mine very suddenly passed away in his fourties, it was like losing a brother. A lot of us had broken immediate families growing up e.g. no dad or no mom, so our uncles, aunts and cousins filled in the gaps. We all had a hand in raising each other so when one of us was taken, it devastated all of us.

Probably one of the most idiotic comments I've ever read in my life, dude. Not too late to delete.

21

u/TheLakeWitch I ain’t reading all that. Free Palestine šŸ‡µšŸ‡ø 8h ago

u/bethe1_ as if she was paula abdul herself 7h ago

This doesn’t even matter here because miley did grow up with her godmother. Like we saw it very publically and also they mentioned privately all through the years. why are people being weird

35

u/LivasaurusRex420 11h ago

Everyone i know is close to their godparents, especially because if the parents die, the godparents take over and raise the child/children.

11

u/throwawaydostoievski Excluded from this narrative āŒ 7h ago

As someone who became an orphan at 17, I did move in with my godparents. It’s definitely a thing.
