Court Cases 👩⚖️ Katy Perry's legal war over $15million Montecito mansion reignites as disabled veteran tries to drag her and ex Orlando Bloom back to court
https://www.dailymail.com/tvshowbiz/article-16213739/katy-perry-orlando-bloom-court-montecito-mansion.htmlKaty Perry and ex-boyfriend Orlando Bloom could be subpoenaed in a long-running legal battle over a $15 million Montecito, California mansion the former couple purchased in 2020.
Both parties were mentioned in a new series of legal filings in ongoing litigation between Carl Westcott, a veteran who founded 1-800-Flowers, and Bernie Gudvi, Perry's business manager.
Westcott had previously unsuccessfully sued over the 2020 sale of the eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom home, saying he had been incapacitated at the time of the sale due to painkillers use following surgery.
A judge ruled against Westcott in the case in 2024 and forced through the sale to Perry, who the court told to settle the remaining balance owed on the home, which comes to around $4.06 million.
In a recent legal filings reviewed by The Daily Mail asking for an emergency hearing, attorneys for Westcott claimed that Gudvi, presiding over Perry's finances, 'has not paid the amount due.'

With this story over the years I've never understood why the dude's status as a disabled veteran matters. He's extremely wealthy, it's not like he's an unhoused person she's been bullying for fun.

It also fails to mention the reason he lost the case is because he claimed that he was "incapacitated because of the painkillers" but was only claiming that for the deal he made with Katy and none of the other dozen deals he made at the exact same time.

It would be funny if a 3rd party he made a deal with at the similar time frame used his court filing to argue their deal is void.

And he bought the property himself only weeks prior. And then flipped it for a couple of extra millions to Perry.

Literally the founder of 1-800-flowers, like let’s be so fucking for real right now.

u/Revolution_Bry 6h ago
And the founders daughter in law was on the Real Housewives of Dallas. She is a disgusting racist with her evil clown husband. I don’t feel bad for the old man. Katy Perry is annoying, but glad she’s going toe to toe with this evil old man.

Oh that’s a DIFFERENT housing case that Katy had to deal with lol

Every time she buys a property, she pisses someone off and ends up in court.
She'll soon be building a mansion on top of a graveyard.

u/PeopleEatingPeople 6h ago
I don't even care for Perry, but she was right in both cases.

I think she was right in the case where the nun died.
Not sure about this one though, I don't know enough.58

In this case a multi-millionaire bought this house weeks prior, never lived in it, then sold it for a huge profit to Perry.
This guy also owned 17 dealerships and sold a business for 422 mil in 1996. He is richer than her, never saw combat, his disability is unrelated to his service, he owns multiple other properties, his racist family is on the Real Housewives.

And people speak of him like he was injured in combat. He was stationed in Germany (in peacetime, the 1950s) his whole enlistment. That's not up there with making the sacrifice to serve in combat. And his disability wasn't because he served, but because he developed Huntington's Disease late in life. A hard, debilitating disease, yes, - and I have compassion for anyone who has it. But one you get because you volunteered to serve your country - no.

u/96cobraguy 6h ago
Yeah, the guy owns 1800-Flowers, I don’t see what him being disabled as anything to do with anything. It’s just a silly headline
23
u/PeopleEatingPeople 6h ago
He owns several homes and had bought this house weeks prior and then sold it for a profit to Katy. He never even lived in it.
20
u/petticrue93 5h ago
Because these articles are planted by his family to try and tarnish her reputation
24
u/MollyRolls 5h ago
By these framing standards the title could just as easily have been “Retired Astronaut’s legal war reignites as 1-800-FLOWERS tycoon tries…”
16
u/DJfunkyPuddle You live on a f#$@ing main road! 6h ago
Yup, it immediately adds bias against Perry. They knew what they were doing.

Anything to sensationalize a story and amplify any reason to dislike Katy Perry.

Sorry- why does he get to be "disabled veteran" and not "founder of the AMAZON of flowers, that has ruined the art worldwide"?
Just curious daily mail 🙄

He probably paid one of those shady PR-firms. They don't just do smear campaigns, they do the opposite, whatever that would be called, too. Kind of over-did it here with the "boo-hoo, poor disabled veteran 😢 🫡 🦅" though

Why does it matter if they are a disabled veteran? That doesn’t make them instantly in the right, nor any more important than another individual owning and trying to sell a $15 million home
75
u/BigMax 5h ago
Also, he is the ultra wealthy founder of 1-800 flowers.
And also, he did sign the deal. He just later claimed he was too high on painkillers and it's not fair. Even though he's not disputing any other deals he made at the time, just this one.
The guy seems like he's absolutely in the wrong, but his PR group is doing GREAT work by having him only ever referred to as "disabled veteran" and not "ultra wealthy man who regrets a deal he made."
135
u/OldSandwich9631 7h ago
I know everyone wants to pile on Katy. But this guy needs to stop. He sold the house to her legally, a court ruled it was legal. This is just harassment at this point.

u/YetAnotherAcoconut 7h ago
Maybe I’m jaded but every time I see a headline like this I immediately wonder what the background is on the “disabled veteran” of the story. Finding out they’re a rich scumbag wasn’t surprising in the least.

Then I remember we can’t talk about the westscots on the real housewives subs cause they’re so litigious

Finally, after all these years, a media report that reports Orlando Bloom was and is an active participant in the purchase of the house. Everything that I read basically just mentioned him in a "oh, by the way, Katie and Orlando are dating and have a child together." kinda way. As if he wasn't an active participant. It's been fascinating and frustrating to see Katie get raked over the coals for buying the house while he pretty much got a complete pass on the whole thing (fyi, I don't think Orlando and Katy were wrong to make an offer on the house and subsequently buy it.).
•
u/pinkfondantfancy 1h ago
Even here he's being called "ex-boyfriend" - I know they weren't married but that seems a bit too casual a term for a man and woman who have made a family together, even if the (long serious) romantic relationship is over.

The daily mail clearly forgot that Katy Perry is also a military veteran. She was in the Marines in the Part of Me music video. Pretty sure she even got deployed to Southern California lmao

Imagine if everyone who got fucked by the 2020 real estate market tried to sue. Millionaires just refuse to take the L like the rest of us plebes?
•
u/EdgyPun34257 2h ago
'disabled veteran' is a very manipulative way to refer to the millionaire founder of 800 Flowers who sold a mansion for $15 million and them decided he wanted more money when he found out who the buyer was
Journalism is dead

The daily mail will write some things to flame your enemy for the right price.

I would not even want that house after all the bullshit over it. Buy another one. The money spent on attornies n courts could have bought thousands of dollars of food for hungry poor Americans, trying to work 2 jobs 75 hrs a week n still food broke. These people waste so much money on stupid shit. Their problems are a joke.

My bad for trying to make a joke, won’t happen again.

The nuns were also in the wrong. Perry had an agreement with the person that was actually allowed to sell the property and bought it for 14.5 mil. The nuns thought she was too trashy and sold it to another person for 44k without approval. It is also not Perry's fault an 89 year old died of natural causes.

u/lavendermoonoracle 4h ago
Thank you! There is so much more context to that story, but comments about it always revert to "lol Katy Perry killed a nun".
