It’s beautiful to see a community that still uses this console.
Keep it up, guys—just keep putting stuff out, whether it’s games, ports, or whatever other crap.

PS1 games for PS2
I’m adding games to my PS2. It’s really easy with PS2 games, but PS1 games are a total headache for me (maybe because I’m just a complete idiot). I want to access them over the LAN from my router, but it’s complicated; the videos I’ve seen all use the FAT32 or exFAT method, connecting directly to the console’s USB port.
Will I need to install another separate program? I saw something about it on PSX-Place, I thought that having a program on the computer was all that was needed to port the games; I’m using PopStarterGameInstaller, thats all.

Jellyfin client for the ps2 update
Hi everyone,
A while ago I shared the first version of my Jellyfin client for the PS2 (built with the help of Claude). Thanks to everyone who tried it and gave feedback! Version 2.0.0 is now out, and the big news is that it supports more types of screens.
**More display options**
You can now choose how the PS2 sends the picture to your screen, with one line in the settings file:
- **480i**: the normal PS2 picture, works on any TV. This is still the default.
- **480p**: a sharper, more stable picture for TVs and PC monitors (CRT) that accept it. You need the component cable or the PS2 VGA cable.
- **240p**: the classic retro console look, for CRT fans and upscalers like the OSSC or RetroTINK.
- **1080i**: for HD TVs and HD CRTs. The menus use the whole widescreen, with more posters on screen, and widescreen movies fill the screen.
Don't worry about picking a mode your screen can't show: the app always starts in the normal picture and asks you to confirm the new one. If you can't see anything, just wait 10 seconds and it goes back by itself.
**Better picture**
Movies look sharper than in the first version, and DVDs now show in the right shape instead of being stretched or squeezed.
**Fixes**
Some TV episodes skipped frames at the start, and the "Next Up" list could miss episodes. Both are fixed.
**What's next**
- PAL support for European TVs is in development. I don't have PAL equipment, so I'll need help from PAL users to test it.
- Support for the PS2 DVD remote.
- Playing music from a USB stick.
One small known bug: the lowercase "w" has two tiny dots under it. It will be fixed in the next version.
Download and instructions:
https://github.com/jimmyBizMobile/jellyfin-ps2/releases/latest
As always, this is a spare-time project, so bugs are expected. Please report anything you find, and photos of your setup are very welcome!

Bios chip swap from 50k to 70k fully working
TL;DR: The 1.90 bios version from a 50k on a 70k with originally 2.00 bios will allow the console to boot from a hard drive and maintain full disc drive functionality.
Why do this?
I know that you can install the three .irx drivers/modules for HDD boot in a region specific section in LaunchELF on a FMCB or PS2BBL memory card but I'm working on my perfect PS2 and I want it to have native hard drive support for the I/O processor and full disc drive functionality. I know some people in the PS2 modding scene know about this specific swap, but there's very little information that I could find on this and most people think it's impossible to have both native HDD support and keep full disc drive functions on a slim PS2.
Alternative:
If you don't want to preform a bios chip swap you'll need a FMCB or PS2BBL memory card and that card needs to be in the first slot on the PS2 permanently. Check out the links below. These drivers need to be place a region specific section for your specific console.
| Folder | Region |
|---|---|
| BEEXEC-SYSTEM | European / PAL |
| BIEXEC-SYSTEM | Japanese / NTSC-J |
| BAEXEC-SYSTEM | North American & Asian / NTSC-U / NTSC-C |
| BCEXEC-SYSTEM | Chinese / NTSC-C |
Gusse video: Link
Download the .irx drivers: Link
What I was able to find.
There are two post on PSX-Place that chronicle two peoples experience in performing this swap. finalman and heathy1337.
finalman: Link
finalman's blog: Link
heathy1337: Link
Why most people don't think this swap works.
Most people think that any bios swap will cause the PS2 to boot to a black screen and the ones that have preformed this swap and other swaps know that some do boot but this specific swap will break disc drive functionality. This is because of a bios and Mechacon version mismatch. The Mechacon has to be able to communicate to the bios chip and/or it expects a certain bios version to be present. Most people don't even know about the different bios versions so they'll preform the swap with any bios chip from 50k consoles.
The 50k model PS2s have three possible bios versions. 1.70 1.90 and 1.98 (PAL only). 1.98 is what finalman used in his swap and that's why it didn't work. From what I gathered 1.98 was a rushed release by Sony for the European market in order to combat the rampant use of mod chips at the time. The release was so haphazard that you should still be able to find 1.90 bios versions in Europe. We don't know what bios version heathy used for his first attempt that failed but I can only guess he used the 1.70 version which is what most people that have done this swap used unknowingly.
Why this does work with 1.90 only.
It is my belief that when Sony made the 70k consoles they really just shrunk down a 50k console. Both consoles are so identical that even their IC numbers on the service manuals are the same. the 70k just adds an extra identical digit. Both chips have the same pinouts but on the PS2 motherboards they are orientated differently so match the dot on the chip to pin one on the 70k motherboard. Both consoles also use the "Dragon" Mechacon. My theory on why only the 1.90 works is because of manufacturing logistics. It's more cost effective to make a single Mechacon chip that will accept both 1.90 and 2.00 bios versions. 2.00 being what they used on the 70k and 1.90 was the last GLOBAL bios verison for the 50k models.
All available PS2 service manuals: Link
How to find a PS2 with 1.90?
You'll most likely need to find a mid-late chassis date code 50k PlayStation 2. The chassis date code will be located on the bottom of the model sticker. It'll be a number and a letter. The number is the year and the letter is the yearly quarter.

| Number | Year | Letter | Quarter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 2000 | A | January, February, March |
| 1 | 2001 | B | April, May, June |
| 2 | 2002 | C | July, August, September |
| 3 | 2003 | D | October, November, December |
| 4 | 2004 |
To accurately identify the bios rom version you'll need a FMCB or PS2BBL memory card with LaunchELF or Playstation 2 Ident. With LaunchELF go to Misc then Debug and you'll see this:

How to read the bios rom string:
| 0190 | Bios version | 1.90 |
|---|---|---|
| A | Region | America |
| C | Type | CEX |
| 2003 | Year | Compile year |
| 06 | Month | Compile month |
| 23 | Day | Compile day |
Type:
| C | CEX | Consumer/Retail |
|---|---|---|
| D | DEX | Developer |
Bios rom regions:
| A | America |
|---|---|
| C | China |
| E | Europe |
| H | Hong Kong |
| K | South Korea |
| R | Russia |
| J | Japan |
What matters.
Once you confirm you have the 1.90 bios rom, you should keep the region the same as on the 70k. If you don't the swap will work but it will have adverse effects. For example swapping a bios chip from a NTSCJ console into a NTSCU/C console with change the language (can be changed back to English in the PS2 settings menu) and reverse the X and O button inputs. Game compatibility will be affected too (could be solved with the MechaPWN exploit). The rom compile date does not matter. Do not use a DEX rom version.
The swap

Testing:
I haven't been able to test a hard drive yet but that's okay because everyone that has done a similar swap has that working the problem is retaining disc functionality. I'm happy to report that disc reading fully works! I've tested dual layer PS2 games, single layer PS2 games, DVD movies, PS1 CDs and PS1 burned disc after performing the MechaPWN exploit and they all boot up perfectly. At some point I will post a Youtube link of it working.

I'm porting Downhill Domination to PC and Android.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey guys, not sure how active this subreddit is regarding Downhill Domination but I'm sure there's one or two guys here being actually interested in this project. I'm working for 7 months on this project already, and recently with the help of AI, I've managed to get a month of work pushed in 1-2 days, real helpful stuff.
So far, I've managed to get it working on PC/Android. It's in true 16:9 widescreen format via a camera mod I've done, and it's not stretched what PCSX2 does and other emulator, it's a TRUE wide format not even included in the original built. It can run 50 or more fps, I'm still optimizing everything.
Here is my YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@xonodol
And here's a preview of the build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQOvd2KnTq0

ExFat HDD and the latest OPL
I started having issues with the grimdoomer ppl and wish to upgrade to the latest opl, which I have read has exfat compatibility, but after moving over the new opl to my freemcboot card, I try and start opl it freezes on the opening splash screen. I can get past that if I hold the start button as I run it but then it does not read the hdd full of games I was wondering what I am missing?
I am using a memcard pro2 as fmcb, and It is a fresh set up with no config files present.
The opl version I updated to is OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-2271-b3a2199

RiptOPL, cover art not showing
I use an MX4SIO adapter, with a Kingston 128gb sd card, 32kb cluster size, formatted to exFAT. Used OPL manager to get all my cover art automatically and put the output on the root of the sd card (and yes, I made sure I capitalized the ART folder correctly). I don't care for how coverflow looks so I changed it for the original theme, and even then the cover art will not show up on both. How do I fix this?

Game Appreciation #3: Way of the Samurai
Way of the Samurai is an absolute masterclass in how to do a short game right. A single playthrough wraps up in just a couple of hours, but the insane amount of branching paths packed into that small runtime is mind-blowing. Every single choice, dialogue option, or unexpected clash completely alters how the whole narrative unfolds.
The combat itself is so satisfying really, and requires actual focus instead of mindless button-mashing. Collecting different Weapons, and mastering various movesets, and timing your parries or positioning just right gives every single duel a different aesthetics. you get hooked from the very first sword clash to the end.
It remains such a wonderfully quirky, beloved hidden gem, or I say it's a Cult Classic. Because the scale is so tight and focused, the incredible replayability means you'll constantly want to jump right back in to try completely different choices and uncover every possible outcomes.
Drop your thoughts......
And Thanks.

(problem) Hey everyone, I just got freemcboot card off Amazon yesterday and it's been working great with my games!,
But then I was playing a game today and powered the console off, and now it sometimes skips the freemcboot logo or it takes ages to load in and then it dosent let me open any things like opl or anything except the main PS2 menu and freemcboot config, does anyone know why this is? after waiting a little while it finally goes away from a black screen but loads right into the memory card booter 😿
