Safonov: The Russian goalkeeper had barely settled into the game when he was beaten by Reyna's deflected shot, which he was a little short of reaching and for which he was not necessarily particularly well positioned. After another questionable positioning decision on Baldé's cross-shot a few minutes later, he significantly raised his level and delivered a very strong second half. A superb low save from a Harder header, several powerful shots confidently caught or parried, some fine reflex saves, and even a significant contribution to the build-up of the final goal.

Zaïre-Emery: Captain for this match and deployed on the right flank, the still-young Parisian delivered a completely invisible first half. He was not really called upon defensively, given that Strasbourg attacked mainly down the opposite side, but he was even less noticeable when Paris had the ball and tried to attack. Fortunately, his second half was a little more substantial, although still far from particularly impressive.

Zabarnyi: Like Zaïre-Emery, he benefited for a long time from Strasbourg's very limited use of the left flank, allowing him to enjoy a quiet evening, although he was not especially dominant against Baldé when the winger took him on. The second half saw him called upon a little more, and the Ukrainian was particularly solid towards the end as Racing attacked in a disorganized manner. Above all, however, it was his goal that changed everything for PSG, suddenly giving his team a lifeline. Late in the match, he was also very useful thanks to his ability to play long balls towards the right flank.

Hernandez: Back in the center after coming on at left-back in Manchester, the center-back delivered another worrying performance in this position. For the opening goal, he is terribly late in reacting to Reyna before wrong-footing his own goalkeeper. But that incident was nothing compared to the ordeal he endured against Harder. The Danish international is a player who relies heavily on intensity but lacks pace, qualities that should have suited Hernandez, yet that proved not to be the case, as he was dominated practically from start to finish in this matchup. A bounce-back is eagerly awaited.

Digne: Starting once again, the left-back quickly found himself in the picture for the opening goal, arriving too late to deal with Reyna and, above all, being caught off guard by how far Hernandez was from him, but this would be his main defensive mistake. Digne was heavily involved in duels, doing a genuinely good job of preventing Yassine from getting going, and although he did not win all his one-on-ones, his defensive contribution was real. His attacking contribution followed a similar pattern: sometimes messy but still meaningful, with a few poorly executed crosses but also one absolutely perfect delivery for Ferran Torres's header. Although he was the first to be substituted, he was certainly not the worst of the four defenders, merely the least versatile.

Nuno Mendes replaced him, and the Portuguese player quickly brought his pace and energy to the left flank. He produced some fine individual runs, which were not always followed up well by his teammates. His departure through injury could not be adequately compensated for.

Beraldo: Luis Enrique brought him back into the side as the holding midfielder, but with a clear bias towards the left side to help Digne contain Yassine, and the left-footer struggled. He was involved in defensive duels and won a fair number of them, although not enough, but it was on the ball that Beraldo disappointed. Whereas he had previously managed to keep the ball moving in this midfield position, he barely managed to do so this Saturday.

Vitinha replaced him for the closing stages, and the Portuguese player immediately brought dynamism on the ball and an ability to find solutions against a compact defensive block.

João Neves: Back in the starting eleven, the Portuguese player unfortunately delivered a performance in keeping with his previous outing against Le Mans. Although he produced a few flashes of brilliance and moments when his credentials as a top-level player shone through, his overall performance was still very average. Despite eventually trying to take matters into his own hands, he did not really manage to inspire his team in any way and struggled in duels, which is unusual for him. Another unusual aspect was a certain amount of sloppiness in his passing.

Hakimi replaced him for the final half-hour, and the Moroccan brought pace and depth down the right flank. He did not necessarily manage to deliver any dangerous crosses himself, but one of them was poorly cleared in the build-up to Dembélé's goal to make it 2-1, illustrating his contribution.

Dro: The young Spaniard was hit hard by the Alsatian autumn, judging by his performance. Yes, he produced the best pass of the first half with his magnificent through ball for Akliouche, but that was pretty much his only moment of brilliance. Generally available to his teammates and keen to play forward, poor Dro was swallowed up by the physical intensity of the Strasbourg players, who showed him no mercy and left him with very little to work with. It is difficult to make a defensive or attacking impact under those circumstances, although he did manage to recover a few balls through counter-pressing.

Doué replaced him and took up a position on the right, shooting at goal straight away before switching to the left flank. He repeatedly tried to drive forward with the ball, and one of his shots resulted in the penalty. Although the danger he created down his flank was somewhat superficial, he made absolutely sure of finishing the match on a high note with a composed finish for his goal.

Akliouche: It is doubtful that the left-footed player of the moment will have particularly fond memories of the Meinau, and not only because of the horrible tackle he suffered late in the match. Before that incident, he had mainly squandered two huge chances, one in each half, and it cannot be said that his overall contribution to the play had been particularly significant. Whether playing as a right winger during the first hour or in the middle of the pitch thereafter, he had practically no impact and failed to make any real difference.

Torres: Once again deployed as the lone striker against a deep defensive block, the Spaniard probably did not enjoy himself much and had very little impact, touching a pitifully small number of balls. He did have a good chance early in the game but failed to convert Digne's cross, and was subsequently nowhere to be found for most of the match, struggling to pose even the slightest threat with runs in behind. Moved to the right flank right at the end, he was immediately more useful in that role, making runs and providing an assist.

Kvaratskhelia: Restored to the starting eleven in his preferred position on the left wing, the Georgian seemed reasonably willing to work, at least by his Ligue 1 standards, but he struggled against the opponents' physicality and double-teaming, one such situation leading to Racing's goal. When he was found a little higher up the pitch and had some support around him, he managed to create a little danger, but such moments were too rare. A player of his class can hardly settle for creating so few opportunities through individual brilliance, and his legs once again seemed very heavy.

Dembélé replaced him and changed everything in half an hour. After taking some time to get going, a spell that culminated in the missed penalty, the Parisian No. 10 drifted slightly towards the right and began wreaking havoc in the opposition's defense. First, a perfect assist that put Strasbourg in serious trouble, then a goal in his trademark style, full of feints and two-footed skill. He was also involved at the start of the third goal, with a perfect first touch. Some substitute appearance.

Question Could Bayern Munich be considered the European classic for PSG?

Post image

I say this because they have faced each other multiple times and almost always they figh

I know that it could be said that it is too early to call it "Clásico" but I think that if it continues it could be considered the great rival of the pgs

Considering that they beat them in a UCL final and the great game in the semifinal of the previous one

Question What’s up with the academy?

Since Ndjantou and Mbaye it seems that none of the academy players are being hyped up as very promising or getting regular minutes in Ligue 1. Are we in a drought of academy talent, or are they all leaving because they don’t see a path to the first team? Am I forgetting some names?

Stats/Graphs Vitinha has made more passes than anyone in Ligue 1, in fewer minutes than the players behind him

Post image
21 Upvotes

Was doing some analysis and put together Ligue 1's busiest passers after six games - thought i'd share here!

Vitinha is top with 546 passes in 460 minutes, ahead of Ndayishimiye (539) and Maxime Lopez (512), who have both played more.

I'd love to hear your thoughts: is he the most important player in the side right now?

I'm a Liverpool through and through, but can we have Enrique for at least three years. I hope I don't offend anyone because this is a compliment.
