Help me improve a Venturi/Airlift Pump for Shallow, Dirty Water
gallerySubmersible pumps with smart sensors
Hello,
Why are Submersible pumps for water with smart sensors not that common (atleast my country it is not)? Market is filled eith float switches but not smart sensors but seems like smart sensors are a no-brainer in this day and age. What am I not getting?

A Common Installation Mistake with Conical Spring Mechanical Seals
Conical spring mechanical seals are widely used in pumps and industrial equipment. However, a small installation mistake can lead to serious operational problems.
What is the function of the conical spring?
The smallest inner diameter of the conical spring is designed to be smaller than the shaft diameter. This allows the spring to grip the shaft and transmit torque to the rotating seal assembly.
The critical installation mistake
Sometimes, inexperienced installers use pliers to expand the spring's inner diameter because the spring is difficult to fit onto the shaft.
This is a serious mistake.
When the spring is expanded, it can lose its grip on the shaft. As a result, torque transmission may be compromised, allowing the rotating seal assembly to slip on the shaft.
What can happen?
- Loss of proper torque transmission
- Slippage of the rotating assembly on the shaft
- Damage to the sealing faces
- Leakage and premature seal failure
How can this be prevented?
- Never expand the spring with pliers.
- Use a suitable lubricant only if recommended by the manufacturer.
- Install the spring by rotating it onto the shaft in the appropriate direction, following the manufacturer's installation instructions.
A small installation mistake can cause a major mechanical seal failure.

Winterize irrigation pump sprinkler system???
I have a sprinkler system that the water is supplied by an underground well via an irrigation pump. The pump has a faucet (manual calls a âprimer openerâ) on the discharge pipe. Freezing weather is coming. Can I connect an air compressor hose to that faucet to blow out (winterize) the sprinkler system? This is my first post on Reddit. Thank you for any advise/help.

Pump problems
I am pumping this pond out and the discharge hose it barley putting water out it's pumping but not like it should be with this size pump. I was trying to make the intake side shorter but cannot get to it. Any suggestions on what is wrong or what I need to do to get this thing pumping better?

Low pressure
I have an 11 gpm 3000 psi AR pump with vrt100 unloader valve 1/2 inch . On a 670cc. With 8 gpm orfice Iâm getting 2000 psi. I wanna reach 2500 on my surface cleaner. Idk why the pressure is that low. Idk if the unloader could be too big? Do I need a smaller 3/8 unloader? My machine runs fine and havenât spotted any leaks on pump.

Design of Pump foundations
Is there a simple conservative method for designing pump foundations?
I find the design/calculation of foundations for pumps quite complicated and time-consuming, especially when it comes to vibration and dynamic effects.
Is there a conservative, easy-to-use calculation method that can be used for preliminary design?
For example, could you have a simple rule of thumb such as: if the foundation mass is at least 10Ă the mass of the pump, vibration-related problems are unlikely to occur?
Obviously, Iâm not suggesting this as a replacement for a proper dynamic analysis, but Iâm wondering if there are any commonly accepted conservative rules or simplified methods used in practice.

Liquid Pressure switch contacts melted off.
There was lots of chatter coming from this switch. The installer said itâs normal for pressure switches reading at the pump instead of tank. They didnât mention it was an option to relocate it and plug the pump port at the time of planning or installation.
The pump is 3 ft of 3/4 pex-a expansion away from the tank. With 2 elbows and a 90° turn of a tee between them.
The installer just mentioned thatâs why the switch chatters but insisted it was no issue and there was no better way to install it.
Iâm thinking Iâll re-plumb this myself with 1 inch pex, keeping a similar layout. But relocating the switch to the tank pipe. Adding a low pressure cut out on the suction pipe. Proper valves everywhere they should be. (Installer missed a pump isolation valve. Said they were short on parts and space)(This is a pressure booster. 30 psi in and 40-60 out)
The second contact seems very discoloured.
The contracts seem to have overheated and melted away.
This does seem like an intended failure method to protect equipment.
I noticed the pressure was very bad and investigating why, I found the switch prime position didnât activate the pump. Taking the cover off and found this.

Engineers of the Netherlands developed and placed 6 new pumps in the Afsluitdijk. These pumps can displace 275.000 litres of water every second. This is equivalent to an Olypmic swimming pool every 9 seconds! Absolute insanity
New Pump - Bad Purchase?
galleryI got this new pump from Eco worthy to attach from a 35 gallon water tank out to a Ryobi pressure washer. As you can see the pump outlet is quite small.
Should I look another one with proper size or can I just find an adapter? Iâm concerned about insufficient water flow if I rig an adapter to it.
Thanks in advance! God bless

New pump quote - Madimack 2.0 Inver Flow
Hi all, I live in Florida and was quoted for a Madimack 2Hp inverter flow install for around $2000. When looking online, I donât see much about Madimack, has anyone had it installed, how long have you had it, and how much did the install cost you?
The quote isnât itemized, so Iâm not sure how much is labor and how much is the pump system.
Also if anyone has other recommendations on pump, please let me know. Thanks!
