Discussion What do you guys think of this?
Okay so I was on instagram and I literally just saw this and I really really do not like the idea of this it feels like they’re trying to normalize things like this for surveillance etc.
I don’t even know what to do or where to report the idea of not wanting this here, like if I get enough signatures will they remove this? Or will they not bc this is the 2030 agenda?

u/kugelkun Expat Jul 07 '26
I don’t get it… why does OP get riled up about this now when immigration is being doing it for years … they just linking the same data in immigration to your boarding pass…. What’s new here ? The gov already has your face fingerprint and personal details
Anyone who is concerned about that shouldn’t even own a phone or a bank account and start living on a remote island with self sustenance
If the people who had access to your biometrics data wanted to do something with your biometric data they would been able to do it way before they had it just by using your personal information in your QID

u/kugelkun Expat Jul 07 '26
What I’m trying to say is TLDR “we are fucked as soon as we have an ID”
-2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Yeah Ik what u mean but still if there’s something that I can do to make us less fucked than we are rn I will do it
-5
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
I mean I grew up in a house full of electronics, how should I have known. Plus the fingerprint etc they have it, but soon enough they’ll get better cameras that track you 24/7 ifykyk and I don’t wanna live like that.
3
u/Glittering_Novel_147 Jul 07 '26
Surveillance capable of face recognition already exists in public places. Replacing/ not replacing boarding pass doesn’t affect that fact.

kinda weird they are downvoting you, i agree with u
1
u/haqtr Jul 08 '26
Thank you finally someone who sees what I see

u/GreedyFunction2801 Jul 08 '26
they are so blinded that they are not willing to understand the truth and the plot

Singapore been doing this for ages. Makes leaving and entering so much easier and more convenient. The challenge is how fast the machines are for recognizing. When I enter Singapore it’s takes less than 5 seconds to recognize me and never had any problems like shifting position, tray agin etc.
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
See, you’re only noticing the positive side of this. They are trying to normalize something most people don’t/ won’t want IF they knew what the real intention was.

u/Dapper-Wolverine-200 Jul 07 '26
your biometrics are already there, there's isn't anything more they need from you. I get that you're concerned about privacy and stuff. this isn't a democratic country, we live here by choice, there are tons of things that needs to be concerned about but setting up a camera (which there's plenty already) is the least. If you don't like how they work, you have a choice to exit and live somewhere you love. you don't have anything to worry as long as you stay under the laws of this country.
10
u/Select_Trick_5325 Jul 07 '26
You do know every single mall entrance cam already scans you same way?
Privacy died with the Nokia 3310.
3
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
And you think we can’t say we are against it? We can do something about it if we disagree, we can get them removed etc
5
u/Select_Trick_5325 Jul 07 '26
First time in qatar?
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
No? Born and raised here, both parents are Qatari
5
u/Select_Trick_5325 Jul 07 '26
Then you can do something about.
Not us (expats).
Lucky to be born in a wonderful country.-1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Thank you, but where do I start, who do I contact? What do I need to do to make this change
9
u/rir2 Jul 07 '26
You speak with your local MP 😆
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Do you know how? So I can go speak with them asap

Start with the captain at Hamad Airport police post.
Great guy. He will listen to you.1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Yeah my dad said he’ll talk to him as soon as he gets back from his work trip since they know each other, but after that do you know what I can do?

u/Cheese_AI Jul 07 '26
They scan your face in immigration anyway though? Every country does. Did you never notice?
Also regarding surveillance, that is also common. There are cameras everywhere, even AI enabled ones and probably connected to a country wide monitoring system through MOI. AI Video analytics is probably an established system by now. This isn't just here. Many countries have this now. I will agree that it feels dystopian but this is our reality now in many countries.
Honestly, surprised they are leveraging what they have to help the passengers and their experience. I suppose it is smart and trying to make the process faster. The security checks will still be a pain. Also, seems to be an optional thing. Probably a paid service to fast track your boarding.
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Even so, if we have come aware of this we still can request for it to be removed. I am not willing to let AI use my face to be trained. And no I don’t want to live under a government that’s now being run by Ai. There has to be something done
3
u/Cheese_AI Jul 07 '26
That is fair but I do believe you are misunderstanding something. The AI that is used by governments have already been trained and are local models. They are not connected to the web and none of their data is shared online. Governments do not play games there. They do not need your facial data to train anything.
Now what they do need your data, is for surveillance. Also government is not run by AI. But they definitely do use it. Most organizations do. It is a useful tool, the early days of the technology and Qatar is smartly trying to leverage their resources to use the best in the field for their own use. From the way you are speaking, I feel you are a minor. I would suggest learning about it at QNL. There are some really great resources. AI is a tool much like any other technology. They ability to misuse it is indeed a very huge risk but with proper knowledge we can mitigate it.
Also, the use of AI in this article you posted is about their use by Qatar Airways which is a company and not the Government. So I suppose you data can be used to train their AI and we don't have any visibility on how secure or private is your data. So what you can do is make sure that Qatar Airways as a company is using AI ethically and following any rules that exists for AI use in Qatar. Maybe you can research that to see if there is any framework like NCSA for AI technology.
Now my lunch break is ending and I have to go back to work. Good luck and have fun! Don't worry so much.
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
- I’m actually not a teenager im in college studying Ai and cyber security as a minor.
- We’ve lived without Ai for decades. What’s the need for it now?
- Even if the government holds that info Ai isn’t a tool to be played with. I don’t even know why ChatGPT is out there still if they don’t even know how to control their Ai since it’s learning too much too fast and they don’t know where it’s going.
- Nothing will convince me Ai is good, when I’m talking about Ai I’m talking about generative Ai.
- Have a nice lunch break
2
u/msblackcat96 Jul 07 '26
We’ve lived without electricity for decades, why do we need it now?? 🤣
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
that’s my point. if we’ve lived without it for decades I really do think we don’t need it now

u/trerab Jul 07 '26
You know you have to scan your face/finger prints at immigration, right? There's no difference if it's done automatically or manually, either way your face gets scan and on top of that your face is recognized by all other CCTVs the moment you set a foot on the airport.
-3
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Yeah but it’s being used to train AI, I’m trying to stay away from Ai as much as possible
3
u/AnyEquivalent7404 Choco Float Jul 07 '26
bruh, I know you were coming from, and what you feel is valid, but we are in the AI era now, and it's really unstoppable tbh.

u/wallletbonk Jul 07 '26
its already everywhere else.
-4
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Do you know what we can do to stop this? Cause it’s creeping me out I’m literally going to cancel the idea of traveling bc of ts
4
u/wallletbonk Jul 07 '26
i mean, its the same thing when you go thru immigration and back home. they record your face multiple times, at multiple checkpoints.
if you're woried about them tying a face to a name, or using mass survailence software, it's too late imo.
-4
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
I never really thought about them bringing it here but this just made me feel creeped out, isn’t there something we can do? A vote? Something?
4
u/JackJohn258 Jul 07 '26
Qatar is a monarchy. We have no right to vote. A petition won’t do anything unless it becomes super viral or you’re someone important. If you want change, we need total government reform. Go and try reading a few books about abusive governments and state control
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Do you have any book recommendations, and people have to start moving now before it’s too late to convince viral to talk abt this
3
u/JackJohn258 Jul 07 '26
Noam Chomsky has a book called manufacturing consent which talks about how media and journalists works in favor of governments and big corporations. I suggest reading about some historical figures as well, ones that were revolutionary leaders and revolutions themselves
2
u/budududay Jul 07 '26
Useless at check in for people with weak passports because like the diy check in kiosks, i assume you will still need a human to check if you have a visa to your destination
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
And what’s the problem with that?
1
u/budududay Jul 07 '26
Whatever benefits for seamless check in and boarding are useless because there will still be a manual check. Happens every time i use the kiosks, the time spent waiting for someone to come check my visa is sometimes more than the time i spend queueing at the manned counters
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
So if it will be useless why go through the hassle and add that?
1
u/budududay Jul 07 '26
It's useless for me. I don't know what exactly you are asking me about like i'm the one adding that

was being tested on employee tickets some while back. done for me in april. pretty seemless. OP is just a paranoid person. dont worry. in 2026 everything has ur personal data. mobiles, laptop, cards etc. if u use ur personal data responsibly, u will never fall in trouble. unless u know u are upto weird shit, then thats a diff story altogether 😅
0
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
I really don’t like the idea of being surveillance 24-7. And yes ur right I am paranoid but what’s not making my gut feel right is that they’re trying to make this feel “normal”

2
u/Hairy-Guess8943 Jul 08 '26
Privacy left the chat when you said it’s airport. Even people's ass is not safe there 🙄
1
u/Bilal654321 Jul 07 '26
Are there any exceptions to this? I have a special needs son who would struggle to stay still long enough for the photos they take at immigration
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Usually they have a place for special needs, I have 2 cousins with special needs and they let them in first with 1 adult while the rest stay back so he can move etc
1
u/msblackcat96 Jul 07 '26
Lol, get with the times. The government already have the information they need to find you. These cameras are nothing new!

They have your DNA if your a resident, so I dont really mind face rec if it makes my life easier.
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Well I do mind. The information they have is enough. Plus I was born into this world, same as them, so if you really think about it no one owns anything….

u/ParanoidAndroid1079 Jul 07 '26
What if you get some massive plastic surgery like some people do?!?!
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
Literally!! I was once in turkey and had to wait over and hour in line bc the lady infront of us had a nose job and the Ai recognition isn’t letting them go through.

there are cellphone towers, wifi routers,
i will not even go into phones and laptop. So at a basic level you have wifi router near you, your privacy gone.

1
u/Dangerous_Drama2500 Expat Jul 09 '26
There's nothing wrong with it.
1
u/haqtr Jul 09 '26
How? Everything is wrong about it you guys are just too brainwashed and too desensitized
1
u/Dangerous_Drama2500 Expat Jul 09 '26
I don't think so I'm not doing illegal things so I'm not bothered about it's also the same in Singapore I remember there a was a time a lady was killed after she entered the country through this facial recognition they find out about everything she did and where she went so I'm not even worried about it because the government also has all the informations about every one.
1
u/haqtr Jul 09 '26
See my country is really safe, most crimes here are literally just speeding tickets etc. I don’t do illegal stuff either. There is a difference between safety and privacy.
1
u/Dangerous_Drama2500 Expat Jul 09 '26
Whatever I don't care about it I just see it as a tiny stuff there's nothing really much to worry about.

Like the future plans for the new world order etc. look into the stuff they’re trying to implement. They failed introducing it in America so they’re giving it a different approach in other countries

I’m not calming down, I do NOT want Ai using my face etc so I’m not gonna stop talking about

You can actually turn that feature off. Every phone has it on automatically. Some apps actually don’t allow u to turn it off but I try my best to

u/trerab Jul 07 '26
It's not. How are you planning to leave the country then? The gate won't open if you don't scan your face.
2
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
I don’t have to leave I js gotta live off the grid somewhere, and if I leave cover myself as much as possible, might even get rid of social media etc and just live off of movie cds and hacked consoles
2
u/trerab Jul 07 '26
Which phone model are you using right now?
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26

1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
yeah ik but like still💔 I’m literally working on something but I guess it’s not even worth the hassle anymore bc of ts
2
u/trerab Jul 07 '26
Look, I don't like the idea either of all the massive crowd control and violation of personal data by the government but there's nothing that we can really do to stop them unless you have over half of the population of each country rioting about this, there's really nothing else that can be done. Sounds like I'm a conformist but that's the reality.
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
I’m really trying to think of something to do, I’ll start working and thinking about how it can be done properly so it doesn’t back fire on us (the people who don’t want this).
1
u/AnyEquivalent7404 Choco Float Jul 07 '26

Step one would be to get off Reddit, because this app also integrates AI!

why does it matter so much anyway? we're all gonna die and life is too short to worry about who's watching us...
1
u/haqtr Jul 07 '26
because I wanna have the best life for me and my future children. I don’t even wanna have kids anymore if they’ll start adding stuff like this
1
u/amnazar Jul 07 '26
how will the government knowing what you look like stop you from having the best life?
(not trying to argue; just trying to learn different perspectives)

I really don’t know how to explain it bc it’s gonna be typed and will take ages. Long story short them normalizing it and adding more will just make our lives harder than it is

What do you mean by “normalizing surveillance “? They already have every single piece of information about you and your face is scanned at immigration regardless every single time you fly out or in to Doha. I personally find the initiative very convenient and hope that the airport experience become more automated moving forward
