When you join the community, you are asked to choose a user flair. You are also expected to tag vocal rating submissions with a post flair. The three main levels are “Beginner,” “Intermediate,” and “Advanced”. These descriptors are vague, and they may be difficult to assign to oneself. For this reason, the mods have decided to post this breakdown to help people decide what level they are at.
If you:
- Have been talking vocal lessons for less than a year
-Have never or barely been vocally trained
-Have never been paid to sing
-Cannot sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Do not know how to sing with proper breath support and physical technique
-Are not confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others
Then you might be a “Beginner”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.
If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for more than a year
-Have had some or a lot of vocal training
-Have never been paid to sing or paid sometimes
-Are confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others for no charge
-Can sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Can sing with proper breath support and vocal technique
Then you might be an “Intermediate”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.
If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for multiple years
-Are extensively vocally trained
-Have been paid to sing multiple times or sing professionally
-Are confident enough in your skill to charge others to hear you sing
-Can sing notes with perfect accuracy after hearing them
-Can sing with excellent breath support and near perfect technique
Then you might be “Advanced”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair
We understand that you may have some overlap with the categories. It is our suggestion that if even one of the traits of a lower level applies to you, then you should consider using that as your flair.
Please comment with your suggestions for how to differentiate more accurately. We would love the community’s input on what should qualify as a beginner, intermediate, and advanced singer. This post may be updated in the future with these suggestions.
