I recently went through several rounds of interviews with a company and was told the feedback was positive and they wanted to move me forward to a final executive interview.

The recruiter requested my availability twice, which I provided. A few days later, I unexpectedly received a rejection.

When I asked for feedback, I was told all my interviews had been very positive, but the scope of the role had changed over the past couple of weeks and other candidates were now a better fit.

What confuses me is why they advanced me and requested my availability if the role had already been changing.

The position is also still open and accepting applications.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this explanation seem reasonable, or could something else have happened behind the scenes?

I'm currently pursuing my Master and applying for full-time roles in finance and consulting.

One of the most frustrating parts of recruiting, at least in my experience, is the amount of time spent applying to different companies, repeatedly entering the same information, and completing assessments that often test very similar skills.

This got me thinking: what if candidates could take one standardized assessment and share their results with multiple employers?

I'm exploring a startup idea built around this concept.

The platform would offer industry-specific assessments, such as consulting cases, investment banking technical questions, or basic LBO exercises for private equity. Candidates could complete a verified assessment once and use their results across participating employers.

Ideally, the platform would also help candidates discover relevant opportunities based on their interests and skills, rather than having to apply to dozens of positions individually.

The biggest question I'm struggling with is whether companies would actually be willing to accept a shared assessment instead of requiring their own.

Before building anything, I'd love to understand whether others experience the same problems.

A few questions:

1. How many assessments have you completed during your latest job search? How much time did they take?
2. Have you ever taken nearly identical assessments for different companies?
3. Have you ever abandoned an application because the process was too long or repetitive?
4. If you work in recruiting, why does your company use its own assessments? Would accepting independently verified results create any problems?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people in finance, consulting, and recruiting, but any perspective is welcome.

Feel free to challenge the idea. I'm trying to understand what might be wrong with it before investing time in building it.

I’m honestly devastated and confused and wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar.
I’ve been with my company in different capacities since 2023, including internships, part-time work, and full-time employment. I applied for an internal position around three months ago and was told early in the process that my time with the company was enough for me to be considered and interviewed.
I went through the entire interview process, got the job, negotiated the offer, accepted it, and was preparing to transition to the new team. My hiring manager had already emailed me asking what equipment I needed, and I even had a “welcome to the team” meeting scheduled for this Monday.
Then HR called me and told me they were retracting my offer because they had calculated my time with the company incorrectly and I apparently don’t meet the two-year experience requirement.
I’m having a really hard time understanding how something like this wasn’t caught until this late in the process. My employment history has been available the entire time, and I was specifically told my experience was enough to move forward.
To make the timing even stranger, I had just told my current manager that I was leaving a couple days before this happened, and during that conversation she told me she didn’t think I had the qualifications for the new role. I’m not accusing anyone of anything because I genuinely don’t know what happened, but the timing definitely has me confused.
I emailed HR asking them to explain how my time was originally calculated, how it’s being calculated now, how much credited time I currently have, what exactly is required for the position, and why this wasn’t identified before the offer was extended. I also asked if the decision can be reviewed or reconsidered.
I’m pretty heartbroken because I genuinely thought I was moving into this new role and had already started preparing for it.
Has anyone ever had an accepted internal offer rescinded this late because HR made an eligibility/experience calculation mistake? Is there anything else I should be doing at this point?

Applied for a senior marketing role at a small software company. First interview was normal, second was nearly two hours with the CEO, then I did a take-home strategy task.

The final round was supposed to be a half-hour culture conversation.

Instead, the CEO opened their investor deck, it was made in Gamma, gave me editing access and asked me to fix some of the positioning while they watched because they wanted to “see how I think”.

At first I assumed this was going to be a quick exercise. Maybe change a headline, talk through what I'd prioritise, done.

Forty minutes later they were debating which of my headlines they preferred, asking me to rewrite the market slide and taking notes on an angle I'd suggested for the launch.

At that point I asked whether we were still doing an interview exercise or whether this was their actual fundraising deck. The CEO said he doesn't really separate interviewing from contributing and that good candidates should be comfortable adding value immediately.

I told them I wasn't comfortable continuing the exercise and withdrew.

The recruiter emailed afterwards saying I'd been the leading candidate, but leaving the session early had raised concerns about resilience. She also said they'd reconsider if I wanted to finish the deck.

I do need a job, so there is a part of me wondering whether I made an expensive point. On the other hand, if this is how the boundary works before there's even an offer, I'm not sure what I'm reconsidering.

I am writing this just to share my recent experience with the company I applied for.
This was one of the company I sent an application and my resume to because I really felt that the company aligned well with my interest and skillset that I have.
When I went to first interview, I met the district manager and honestly, I felt great about outcome of the interview, lasted about an hour gave me an assignment to do to show my skills which i believe did great and got great feedback as well and at the end, I was told to confirm the time for next process once I receive the email.
So few days go by, I get an email from head of recruitment for confirming the time for the next interview.
Fast Forward, I am having virtual interview with a head of recruitment after I already had in person interview with district manager.
So the interviewer started with coming in 5 minutes late for an interview. A lot of muting ( maybe connection issue?)in the middle of the process that really made conversation not as fluidly as it should’ve been. It really was rough from the start. I was also told that the last interviewer spoke really highly of me but it was pretty obvious this person didn’t think the same.
So here’s what I noticed.
Just because you had successful in person interview(s) you might not get an offer if someone from HR who is miles away that never even seen what you can do didn’t think the same from virtual interview.
Lesson Learned.

I wanted to ask a few questions to anyone familiar with P&G IT compensation:
Starting Pay: Is $99k standard for new grads, or am I being lowballed? Where in that range do fresh hires typically land?
Salary Progression: How aggressive are annual raises and promotions in IT?
3-Year Outlook: Where should I expect my salary to be around 3 years in if I meet or exceed expectations?

Seriously what is this? Ignoring the fact that the pay info isn't listed but a "benefit" is free parking in an area that doesn't have a parking garage or anything like that, does the hiring manager even know what the difference is between full and part time?

I’m sitting here thinking about what a fucking shitshow is going on right now. While I’m fighting not to be replaced by AI, wars are raging in several parts of the world. Other people are sitting at home or in their offices, just as terrified that they’re going to lose their jobs soon. And more and more people are starting to complain about the quality of food, because so much of it is becoming genetically modified and is no longer grown in people’s own gardens.
There’s a crisis everywhere, and everyone is scared. Every fucking day. Every day is spent under constant stress, hoping to somehow escape reality and ourselves. How much longer can this go on?
I think we need to talk about this louder and louder. The system is fucking broken, and we need to build a new one. So what the fuck do we do?

I recently received a conditional job offer for a Senior Engineer role at a tech company. During the background check, the third-party screening company flagged discrepancies between my resume and their verification report:

Staffing Agency vs. End-Client: On my resume, I listed the major client companies where I physically worked and contributed day-to-day. The background check flagged that my official Employers of Record (W-2 payroll) were staffing agencies.

Typo in Start Date: On one of my roles, my resume had a clerical typo listing my start year off by one year (listed as 2024 instead of 2023).

The prospective employer sent a standard Pre-Adverse Action Notice giving me 5 days to respond and dispute.

What I’ve already done: I responded to HR with a calm, factual explanation clarifying the client-vs-agency structure and provided the following documentation:

Email verification from my direct managing lead at the client site.
W-2 forms covering the entire timeline.
Photo of my active client badge and work email.

My questions for HR folks / anyone who went through this:
How common is this discrepancy for contractors, and do HR teams generally clear the offer once W-2s and agency-to-client placement letters are provided?
Does the clerical start-date typo typically cause a rescinded offer if the W-2 proves continuous work?
Is there anything else I should prepare while waiting for their reply?

I recently made a post on Reddit saying that I’m looking for opportunities in AI/ML, GenAI, Python, etc. I genuinely thought Reddit could be a good place to connect with people and find job/internship opportunities.

A guy messaged me saying something like:

«“Hey Nisha, how is it going? Just checking on your job/internship requirements.”»

So I replied normally and told him that my job search was still going on.

He then said he was looking for “good women to work along with,” which I initially interpreted as a professional opportunity.

He asked for my LinkedIn, which I shared. Then he asked for pictures. I told him I didn't have professional pictures. After that, he asked if I had Telegram. I said no.

Then he said he wanted to ask me something and asked:

“Are you open women?”

I honestly didn't understand what he meant, so I asked him what he meant by “open” — whether he meant being frank or comfortable talking openly.

He clarified that he meant it in a sexual/relationship context.

Then he said:

«“A bit of gf kinda!!!! Will take care good of that person for sure and won't touch anyone without consent,,, as a start a movie or lunch,,, apart from work”»

And then:

«“Bonus if you smokeup”»

I was genuinely shocked.

I was talking to him because I thought he was contacting me regarding work, not because I was looking for a relationship or anything sexual.

I eventually told him that I was genuinely looking for a job and that I thought Reddit was a good platform for finding jobs and connecting with a good community.

I'm sharing this because I don't want to discourage women from using Reddit for career opportunities, but please be careful when someone approaches you through a job-seeking post.

Has anyone else experienced something similar while looking for jobs/internships on Reddit?

And for the guys here: if you're genuinely recruiting someone, please keep it professional. A person saying they're looking for a job is not an invitation for a romantic or sexual proposition.

After a lot of struggling, I finally landed a job offer! I’m super excited, but the background check (through Checkr) is taking forever and I'm starting to panic.
They started the check on August 3. Everything came back totally clear (criminal, plus two other past employers verified fine). The issue is one 3-month job I had.
Here is the timeline:
Aug 6 - Aug 11: Checkr tried to contact this previous employer but couldn't reach them.
Aug 12 - Present: My status changed to "documentation review."
It’s been over 20 days total. The maddening part: I have a completely clean background and hold all the proof for this job (W-2s, paystubs, tax forms). But Checkr hasn’t opened a request for me to upload anything. They just keep continuously pushing back the ETA completion date.
I reached out to my new HR team, and they told me they are "waiting on Checkr to complete the verification."
I'm getting really worried because there is a Visa transfer timeline involved here, and the clock is ticking.
Has anyone dealt with Checkr getting stuck in this loop? How did you get it resolved, and will this delay end up costing me my offer? Any advice on how to force them to let me upload my documents would be hugely appreciated!

First Reddit post... here goes nothing. I work for a small company that takes on government contracts. We've recently been awarded a contract in multiple cities to staff a part-time role. Our challenges: it's a part-time role working a handful of hours per week (4 to 8 hours)... and successful hires have to obtain a public trust security clearance. Our company will sponsor the clearance, but the process takes several weeks. We aren't able to adjust or add more hours due to the nature of the contract. The pay is fairly decent ($20 to $25 per hour depending on location/cost of living), and at this point, we will consider any customer service experience - candidates just need to be computer-savvy, have good people skills, and pass the onboarding requirements.

Candidates can pick their hours, it just has to be when the building is open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. We've got applicant flow, but once we get people on the phone, they are honest about not being able to pass the background check process, ask for more hours which we can't change, or we simply get ghosted.

The interview process is a 15-minute screening call and a 30-minute video interview with the manager. I'm upfront during the screening call about how long the public trust clearance process takes (4-5 weeks).

I've got the job posted on college sites, Indeed, still working on getting approved accounts for local job sites. For our small company, our recruiting budget is limited, so I have to work with free job posting sites.

Any recommendations or critiques?

I had a job interview where the superintendent wanted to hire me, and wanted me to start the following week, and told me to get with the recruiter for my paperwork. I was still waiting on my drug test results, but I'm clean, so i was waiting on on-boarding stuff. The hiring manager said i was still waiting on my drug test results...again im clean, its been almost three weeks, i have reached out to him multiple times, and hes dodging me and not responding....I dont have the superintendents number. What do I do....

I'm thinking of going back to the office in Person, to see whats going on, but with how sensitive these dudes are in blue collar, I dont want him to think im being problematic.

How many of you on the CS/Technical side of the job market have to deal with "Technical Recruiters?"

Look at their Linkedin History's, not even a mention of writing a line of HTML code, began the job 3 months ago.

Today I had an interview with a recruiter representing a start up. "Agentic AI Orchestrator" was the job title. Mind you, I've been creating agentic AI systems for around 3 years.

5 minutes into talking "so you don't work with LLMs?" Me: What? Her: Yeah, the client is looking for people with LLM experience.

"Miss, there's a difference between using applied AI (creating agentic systems) versus training/creating new LLM models. I'm involved in the applied AI side of the equation."

"Yeah but our client is looking for individuals who have experience working with LLMs."

I fucking lost it: "Ms, have you ever written a line of HTML in your life, good luck."

I know this was totally unprofessional, but I've had it with these "technical recruiters." Technical in what sense? IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH AI OR CODING WHAT MAKES YOU A TECHNICAL RECRUITER. I can see from your LinkedIn profile you were working at Applebees less than 3 months ago.

So other than vent, how do you guys deal with these individuals who don't know how to sort an excel file but have the title of technical recruiter? My aspberger's and thin patience make this very difficult for me.

Had a recruiter reach out to me to set up some time to discuss a role. I will fully give that it wasn’t my most effective meeting and I am rusty, but I followed up with my resume and a message in hopes that they would give me another chance to speak to my experience. 24 hours later a rejection. What a bummer this job market is.

A few years ago I was recruited for a position. At first I didn't realize this was contingent on them getting a specific contract. As part of the interview process they had me sell their business and myself as project lead. Their customer loved me. Of course they sent me a low ball offer and I walked away. Their customer wouldn't sign unless I was on the project and also walked. The recruiter was pissed. I was accused of losing them a major contract.

Long story short, a person who doesn't work for you isn't a product you can sell.
