Community Inconsiderate A-Hole in Westerra Fields

If you are the guy in Westerra who lets his car sit and screech loud af every other morning between 530-630am, I hope that belt snaps. Get that thing fixed or at the very least hop in and drive it away. This morning you let it sit and warm up for way too long. You live in nice apartments and drive a nice car, it's been around 2 months, at this point It's just negligence. It's extremely inconsiderate to the mass of people that live in the apartments you're parked directly outside of in a parking lot that echoes like all hell.

I don't understand people who feel the need to idle their cars to warm up when it's like -1° outside for more than 20 or 30 seconds.

Bro should take some of that money he wastes in gas every morning and spend the $20 to replace a belt.

Go talk to the person. Use your words and voice your concern to them about the noise.

Try living beside a dickhead that’s obsessed with his leaf blower, runs it 5 hours a day back and forth, back and forth, back and forth blowing leaves and whatever is in the ground around. Even Christmas Eve he is out there blowing snow around. When he’s laying on his deathbed I hope he realizes all the time he wasted fighting nature.

Likely an Avana property? If you live in the same building or complex file a noise complaint with the property manager is probably the best bet. Vehicle repairs can be very costly for those who don't do their own repairs.

OP, you need to knock it off about their finances. you don't know their financial situation and you just come off as elitist for that.

but if they are idling that early for that long and it is really that loud, file a complaint with the city about the noise bylaw being broken. you aren't going to find much sympathy on reddit, the insecure people with loud trucks get off on you thinking they're douchebags so they're going to automatically laugh at you.

and if it isn't loud enough to affect the noise bylaw then i'm sorry but you need to grow up and figure out a solution. use a fan or a white noise machine.

edit: reposted because the automod wasn't a great bot. 🙄

edit 2: nvm OP is just a bitchy karen. i'm assuming they overstated the duration of the squeal in their post now too.

They live in the junkiest buildings in Westerra and called it “nice”, if they are elitists it’s extremely ironic

🤷🏻 finances were mentioned, I feel like it sets the scene. I'd be a lot more understanding if it was someone who was actually clearly struggling financially. Sorry it struck a nerve.

Classic "my sleep is more important than other people putting food on the table". Mans gotta get ready for work. This is reminiscent of folks who complain about diesel trucks starting louder in the winter.

Who remembers when a guy here wanted to place a complaint because he was on his day off and the city was replacing the sewer line on his street?

12

u/Spectre177 1d ago

Haven’t seen a stupid take like this for a long time. No one is saying anything about putting food on the table being not as important as their sleep. It’s about common courtesy, and being a good neighbor, and not letting your car idle loudly for an extended period of time. Stop being an apologist for shitty behaviour.

9

u/itspicklebart 1d ago

Some people work night shifts. Lack of sleep effects your well-being which effects your work. I'm also trying to put food on the table. I don't see where a dude who is living outside his means and not fixing his modded sports car is comparable to the city completing necessary work. I'll let him know you'd like to give him a place to park.

There is a 24hr noise bylaw that can help you. I called the police when my neighbor had his outside speakers to loud that I couldn't watch the Stanley cup in my house. She was on the phone & she could hear it immediately in my house. Police came & gave him a warning or ticket & he's never done that again. Mind you that was many yrs ago but it should still hold up.

u/HolyBidetServitor 1d ago

More people work day shifts. I've worked both and it is what it is - neighbour with a loud diesel starting outside? Good for him. People can buy and drive whatever they want and fix at their leisure. I'll give him a place to park and offer any tools if he needs help fixing it, rather than complain to a void of anons. You offer him any help to fix his squeal yet?

2

u/itspicklebart 1d ago

Again, it's a metal on metal screeching. It's not nearly comparable to a loud diesel truck, construction, or anything else. The actual pitch of the noise is something I'm sure they could use in a torture chamber. Perfect, since you're such a bleeding heart, do me a favor, come to the apartments and fix it for him. PS. this is Reddit, half the purpose is to complain to a void of anons. Next step is calling it in and making noise bylaw complaints, is that better?

7

u/HolyBidetServitor 1d ago

Lemme know where and the make and model of the car and I'll do it. It's the neighborly thing to do - it'll help him and indirectly help you by helping him. I'll actually go.

7

u/itspicklebart 1d ago

It's a Nissan 350Z at Westerra Fields. Maybe my whiny post into the void of anons isn't so pointless after all. Also you're correct, he does not let it idle for a full hour. It is just between those times that he lets it idle for varying periods of time, today being the longest. It would be nice and neighborly of him to not wait for his screeching vehicle to get nice and toasty warm before leaving in the morning. Why should everyone in the surrounding area be uncomfortable for 20+ minutes so that he can be warm and comfy for an extra 5 minutes on his drive, is mainly what I'm getting at.

2

u/Nickstash 1d ago

That would likely be the better option.

By law. Cite the Noise Abatement Bylaw no. 6980. Prohibits loud, excessive or unnecessary noise that disturbs a reasonable person at ANY time of day.

If you think the car has an illegal modification that is making the car loud on purpose go to RPS to file a complaint which also triggers SGI.

-4

u/Inevitable_Pea_9138 1d ago

you’re special if you think this super necessary action of starting a car for work would fall under the bylaw and actually be enforced… I’ve got some ocean front property right outside the city i can sell you…

2

u/TaintedBastet 1d ago

Im not saying it is. Im saying if OP really feels this is warranted those are the options they can take. The by law officer would be the one to tell OP from there.

0

u/Inevitable_Pea_9138 1d ago

send him to the CDC, Ducks Unlimited, and Bumpy’s Auto Body too if you wanna waste his time :)

3

u/TaintedBastet 1d ago

Are you okay? In all seriousness. Do you need a hug or someone to talk to?

OP has a complaint. Im not here to comment one way or another if their complaint is valid. I dont live there and I haven't heard the noise. Im a Regina resident and am understand the options available to said residents if THEY feel a complaint or investigation is warranted. If a by law officer comes by around the time this is happening, listens to the noise and uses their decible meter they will be able to follow up with OP and let them know if their complaints are founded or not.

If they're really pissed off and suspect that the modifications are done on purpose and are over the allowed decible volume and its outside bylaws enforcement hours then RPS is the next step.

Only OP can determine if that is worth their time or not.

Likely better than complaining on Reddit.

i ain’t reading all that… but agree with your last statement that this shouldn’t be on reddit.. adios amigo

letting your vehicle idle excessively (which is beyond stupid, first of all) =/= getting ready for work. do you need a third grade teacher to explain it in small words to you or does this suffice?

OP needs to get off their high horse about this inconsiderate jerks supposed finances, but not wanting to listen to an idling screechy vehicle for an excessive amount of time is not unreasonable.

-6

u/HolyBidetServitor 1d ago

What does idle excessively mean to you? Letting it idle too long? A squeaky belt needing time to soften, or high rpm's due to cold starting?

4

u/Juliennix 1d ago

i'm not going to waste my time arguing with you lmao, an hour is excessive and there is no possible reason for it- OP indicated it ran between 530-630. there is still a noise ordinance in the city and if the vehicle is loud enough, it breaks it. you seem to feel personally offended enough that i assume you're the dude OP is talking about, and i'm really not wasting my time talking to someone who doesn't grasp that before 7am you need to give half a shit about other people. 👍

-3

u/HolyBidetServitor 1d ago

My car is quiet and I can afford to maintain it to keep it quiet. My comment has reasonable questions because those are all possibilities to why a belt squeals. OP also doesn't tell us what kind of car it is - if the car is a Datsun, where it's easy to change - no excuse. If is something like a BMW where you need to disasemble half the engine to change a single fitting? That's another story. This thread can be turned into something informative t those who aren't mechanically inclined.

i'm really not wasting my time talking to someone who doesn't grasp that before 7am you need to give half a shit about other people. 👍

You just did. I agree, one hour is excessive, OP states between those times, so I interpreted it as starting anywhere between those times, not idling for an hour - idling that long makes no sense unless you drive a diesel, and even then that's just a waste of gas.

0

u/Lexi_Banner 1d ago

An hour is excessive even at -40.

-1

u/shiftysask 1d ago

The old “I’m not going to waste my time with you” defence when you are getting owned in a debate and the facts and common sense are against you. Hagaha. What a 3rd grade tactic.

2

u/JohnnyPneumoniacJr 1d ago

10 seconds then drive the fuggin thing please 🙏

-25

u/PraiseMelora 1d ago

I get it's annoying. But people need to start their cars and get places. It's not as if this dude is purposely making his car squeal to annoy you. Unless you're paying for it, it's not up to you how are when the issue is dealt with. You're making massive assumptions about somebody's finances and motivations.

8

u/itspicklebart 1d ago

Yeah this is how I thought the first couple weeks. Now it's getting slightly cold and he's letting it sit and warm up. It's a sports car and these apartments aren't cheap. He can be uncomfortable for 5 minutes and get in and drive the thing away at the very least. I also get that you aren't the one getting woken up at the crack of dawn by extremely loud & high pitch screeching like metal on metal for long periods of time. It's not about motivation, it's about general consideration and disturbance of peace. There is such a thing as a noise bylaw. Should I let him know he can come park outside your place for the winter?

8

u/Panda-Banana1 1d ago

He almost certainly is within noise bylaw, if he isn't start reporting it. There is little chance that resolves the issue for you but the chance that fixes it is greater than you making a reddit post about it.

-12

u/itspicklebart 1d ago

Thanks Panda, I was certain that this post alone was going to fix all of my problems.

-10

u/PraiseMelora 1d ago

Is he not supposed to drive his car? People need to get places. The world doesn't revolve around you. I basically live in a construction site, loud vehicles and equipment ever day starting at 6am. I act like an adult and move on with my day.

You'll be just fine.

1

u/itspicklebart 1d ago

Quite funny to claim the world doesn't revolve around me (when this is definitely disturbing a mass amount of people) but I could say the same about this poor innocent soul who you've come to bat for. The world doesn't revolve around him and his inability to maintain his modded sports car. Again, at the very least the dude could just not let it sit idle forever. Construction is understandably noisy and necessary, I'm not seeing your comparison. There is construction right outside the apartments as well.

3

u/Intelligent-Bee-4260 1d ago

Complain to the city bylaw enforcement then. You're resolving nothing with this post other than feeling validated by others who agree with you.

1

u/PraiseMelora 1d ago

You're the one making a whiny post on a public forum.

u/Main_Ad814 1d ago

Go out at 430 and give that belt a slice, problem will be fixed

-11

u/shiftysask 1d ago

Earplugs are a thing. I guess whining on reddit is a thing too.
