Rhythm Heaven Groove is the first in the series I’ve played myself, but I’ve watched way too much of Fever and know a vague amount of some of the other games. I know this has been a thing for a while… but I genuinely don’t see the gameplay purpose of locking Perfect medals behind random chance. Maybe I’m spoiled by other rhythm games like Rhythm Doctor, but still. It’s annoying to do a minigame perfectly first try, and then fail the actual perfect attempt later because of nerds. Game design wise, is there any reason for this? The only one I can see is that it increases the pressure and makes it more stressful, but that just makes it more frustrating, not more interesting. If I could at least pick which games had the “Go for a Perfect!” label, I’d be way more tempted to get all of them. As it is… the idea sounds tedious-hard, not fun-hard.
Sorry for the ramble-y post, I think I lost my point partway through. I still enjoyed Groove quite a bit, but it definitely felt more like quantity over quality. That plus the perfect thing is putting me off of the quest for 100%.
