u/JagexHooli Mod Hooli Dec 23 '25
Yup, it's finally happening!
We've ended up going with a 25th Anniversary Event as the way to acquire a bunch of these. Originally we were holding them for a similar style event to earn them in future - Leagues was at one point a consideration - but we felt we'd kept you waiting long enough and it's better to make them accessible.
Should be a bit of fun to start the year off right ahead of Jan 19!

Was it ever a consideration to just add them to the game as a reward for 200m xp in a skill? would've been a good reason to train past 120. Not that i am complaining that its part of the anniversary.
1
u/SlashStar Guthix Dec 23 '25
I have a selfish question. We know how many of each inverted skill cape were earned originally by checking the high scores. But afaik we dont know how many inverted quest capes were earned. Would you be willing to check and see how many people earned it during fsw so I can know how rare mine is?
41
u/BackhandBeamboy Ironman Dec 22 '25
I do hope that since it is tied with Hans it is a permanent addition to the game so anyone in the future can earn them as well.

I tried to get the inverted 120 div cape during FSW. I got the inverted 99, but fell badly ill during the grind to 120 and didn't manage it :(
Glad another chance is popping up now.

thats not even a penny in the bucket. I was making like 400m/h doing 2k zammys with raw. I think by the time we finished farming zammy, just his entire alch stack alone was like 300b. People really dont know how stupid endgame pvm is, the amount of money made is just mind blowing compared to your avg player
4
u/nekonyancy Dec 23 '25
A drop in the bucket for a few sure, but for a good majority of the player base it's definitely still 'silly money' to think that they could even part with that much gold. I'd also say that whilst end game could yield those kinds of results, as you said, the average player won't likely ever see that.
Kind of like a Mc Donald's worker thinking it's insane that someone would spend 300,000 on a sports car. Billy G, or Bezo's could rock up and say the same thing when their net worth is like 300b lol.

I wonder if there will be an inverted MQC… I’m not sure it ever existed in FSW.

As I recall, Jared made a statement at the time saying there wasn't enough time in FSW for MQC to be possible. Which is a real shame cause an invert would look outstanding

Based on what the inverted ordinary quest cape looks like, which is like a Fletching cape.

which is dumb because you talked about MQC, not regular quest cape. So it should be based on the actual MQC

u/esunei Dec 22 '25
Cosmetic aura for having beaten Amascut at 2000% enrage in the first week. There were services selling leeches for it for ~12b, though I'd estimate the majority of auras were earned without having to buy your way in.
5
u/elk33dp Woodcutting Dec 22 '25
I'd say a majority were spooned. I was doing ama on release for fun (not even attempting the 2k), and I grouped with a bunch that had the aura and sucked ass as the boss. And all the people trying for the aura were all looking for the same thing for their group...a tank.
The crux of getting 2k was having a solid tank that could carry the team thru....it wasn't a hard lift from a DPS/mechanics perspective once it was figured out.
So not outright sold it, but as long as your clan/group had a very strong player to take the aggro for your team there's a good chance everyone in that group has the aura.
1
u/bumpin_oldies Completionist Dec 23 '25
Yup. Finding a good base was really hard and I had similar experiences where people with the aura were dying while we did 100% enrage.
1
u/elk33dp Woodcutting Dec 23 '25
Yea i only did 100s so this was exactly my situation. we'd bring aura ppl to fill and they would never want to base and always asked if we had a base before coming. And half the time die mid-fight over some stupid stunt or trying to eek out max dps on a boss where it doesn't matter much after a certain threshold.
Base tank is the real skill test.
2
u/Sennheiser321 Lovely money! Dec 22 '25
The aura you got for getting a 2000% amascut kill in the first week (4-11 Aug 25)
6
u/Spinolyp Trimmed Comp 9/29/22 Dec 22 '25
that aura is such an eyesore. most the people who have it were just carried by their clanmates.

I started playing just before the last dxp weekend and I seen lots of these. I was sad to see they were from fresh start and unable to be obtained even worse to see them here now and for it to only be available a short time. This type of fomo makes me want to quit
23
u/Emperor_Atlas Dec 22 '25
If something so minute makes you want to quit it means you already arent enjoying the game or have a cosmetic addiction. Its so unimportant lol
-4
u/throwdatawaytho Dec 22 '25
Why is it so hard to believe that if I’m going to play a game for 4000 hours I want to look good?
10
u/Emperor_Atlas Dec 22 '25
Because you started a few weeks ago and theres hundreds of other capes (if not thousands).
If a color swap of one is going to stop you, its not a game issue.
-6
u/throwdatawaytho Dec 22 '25
It didn’t stop me. Clearly I’m still here. But this is a cosmetic variant of an item that at minimum takes over 100 hours per skill. Why time gate it? It’s stupid and is literally fomo
9
u/Emperor_Atlas Dec 22 '25
Its literally unimportant lol.

Yeah I've seen some really cool looking inverted capes. I'm excited about getting them at some point. I agree about FOMO. There's gotta be less FOMO in games. It works too well unfortunately.
edit: typo
6
u/tuc-eert Dec 22 '25
I mean I agree FOMO is bad, but basically every legacy live service game has some discontinued cosmetics and stuff that are no longer obtainable. I don’t think we should be calling literally anything that’s not always available FOMO.
3
u/Wild_Effective_5077 Green partyhat! Dec 22 '25
Fomo is a buzzword and we should stop looking through lenses to find the truth
0
u/throwdatawaytho Dec 22 '25
It’s not a buzz word in my opinion these and the shoulder capes were the coolest looking actual in game items vs cosmetics. It’s not really hard to understand if I have to play for 4000 hours I want to look good without mtx
3
u/tuc-eert Dec 22 '25
Okay but a few things here. First, this wasn’t an mtx obtainable item to begin with, so I’m not sure why you’re bringing that up. Second, I’m just going to be straight up with you, just because you want an item and it’s no longer available doesn’t mean it’s FOMO. Yes it sucks, but christ if you complain every time something isn’t always available you’re just delegitimizing actual FOMO
0
u/throwdatawaytho Dec 22 '25
So then what do you call time gates releases if not FOMO? Most arguments here are that I’m using the word FOMO wrong, well okay sorry. I just want to be able to earn items in game when I have the time to do it. Is that really so much to ask for?
2
u/tuc-eert Dec 22 '25
This wasn’t time gated, this was a limited time item. The initial release was FOMO, but you’re jumping into a 25 year old game. There’s plenty of stuff that’s no longer obtainable for whatever reason. It’s valid criticism if they release something new like the inverted capes, but complaining about something that was done in the past is a pretty moot point.

u/Wild_Effective_5077 Green partyhat! Dec 22 '25
Time gated would be more like completionist cape while time limited would be something you can no longer get.
In either case, the issue is more with time limited releases in general rather than whether any particular item remains discontinued, regardless of the initial release tactics. Not being able to have something isn't the issue, it's making people fear that if they don't come engage with the game during a certain time period they'll never be able to have the item.

u/Wild_Effective_5077 Green partyhat! Dec 22 '25 edited Dec 22 '25
Oh I'm fine with them coming back, I am just saying the idea of quitting due to "fomo" is silly. It's basically a meaningless concept that just means people want what they can't have. It's not rocket science and it doesn't require special language or terminology.
More poignantly, the initial release of inverted capes would be the thing that was considered a "fomo" tactic, not the continuation or discontinuation of the items' exclusivity after the fact. In other words, the fomo already happened whether we rerelease it now or not. To some degree we introduce more fomo again by having it be time limited in nature like this new rerelease.
0
u/throwdatawaytho Dec 22 '25
Why would I play a game when I can’t get what I want out of it?
0
u/Wild_Effective_5077 Green partyhat! Dec 22 '25 edited Dec 23 '25
Again I'm pointing out that the current rerelease has a time window for claiming it. That is the fomo we should be against rather than items having exclusivity in any sense, as it only serves to bring people in for fear of missing the window.
In presenting fomo as simply not being able to get a cosmetic, we cheapen what we really mean with fomo being an issue in the first place. It has more to do with the practice of how something is released than the sudden or implicit need to rerelease something that was previously discontinued.

Well, now I know that no need to have FOMO. These are always coming back to the game. In FSW I grinded my own inverted slayer cape sacrificing every day life, because it was limited time achievement/cosmetic. Which was not true apparently. Now I could get more those, but still I think big thumbs down...
