Lore Couldn't easily find something like this anywhere, so I used my limited skills to put it together myself. Map of the full known world so far between OSRS/RS3. Minus some minor geographical differences like landmass shape.

I always find it odd to see that havenhythe is already bigger than mortytania

Morytania always feels so large

I think it’s just cause everything is so much closer together. Havenhythe is heavily spread out, assuming players will be surging through a lot of it. It looks great for our zoomed out cameras we have now, but back in the day they had a very limited view frame to work with, so it all had to be much closer.

Morytania definitely is a lot busier of a region for its size.

u/GanFrancois Jun 15 '26

Morytania is als mostly flat. Havenhythe has the illusion ov verticality which maks it seem even bigger

Morytania is also much more of a maze, thanks to Sanguinesti and Mort Myre.

You DO know that Fossil Island and Anachronia are the same place, right?

5

u/RepresentativeAd6287 Jun 15 '26

The lore on this is super weird and unclear, are they the same place? Didnt kerapac pull Anachronia forward in time? Does this mean fossil island is current (?) Anachronia?

u/yuei2 +0.01 jagex credits Jun 15 '26

Yes Fossil Island was the modern day version of the island but kerapac used the needle to essentially bring a copy of its past self to replace it so you see the island in its more or less prime. Reason Fossil Island is so much smaller is due to the thousands up thousands of years of erosion, water level risings, you know the usual stuff.

2

u/BoomKidneyShot Jun 15 '26

Yes, as far as we know.

I hardly knew it existed at all tbh. Despite being a fan on-and-off for almost 20 years, my knowledge of things outside the f2p area is extremely limited. Let alone anything RS3 related, as I haven't touched that at all given I checked out before EoC was implemented.

Anachronia is Fossil Island in pretty close to it's prime, it was pulled from pre-history through the power of the needle essentially replacing modern day fossil island.

Fossil island = Anachronia

6

u/shadowthehh Jun 15 '26

Not meant to be particularly good. I just needed to be able to see all the landmass at once, and figured I'd share.

I know you said OSRS and RS3, but would be cool to include Ashenfall, which is supposedly on the other side of the world.

I know it's canon for Dragonwilds, but I don't think it's ever been referenced in either RS3 or OSRS yet?

IIRC it's "in universe," as in it definitely exists somewhere on Gielinor, but it's purposefully not mentioned so that lore from the MMOs doesn't impact it or vice versa.

1

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Jun 15 '26

You're right, and I forgot the most crucial thing in that, they said Ashenfall is that far away, by the time you get back to the mainlands, you would have forgotten about Ashenfall.

1

u/Valdes_R Jun 16 '26

Ashenfall is canon to both game in terms of location in-universe. Dragonwilds even is also canon to RS3 timeline. It exists far north of the mainland

4

u/Michthan 300,000 Subscribers! Jun 15 '26

I think you forgot Um. But now I think of it, I don't now if that counts as Gielinor

3

u/Tapeman83 Jun 15 '26

I think Um is “under” the standard map, or just in an entirely separate dimension, so it wouldn’t appear on a world map.

1

u/Valdes_R Jun 16 '26

Um is in the Underworld, so probably not.

3

u/GlitterFactoryOfDoom Jun 15 '26

Dragontooth Isle is canonically east of Morytania isn't it?

5

u/GamerSylv Jun 15 '26

I think the Lost Grove isn't actually supposed to be where it is on the map, either.

1

u/Valdes_R Jun 16 '26

It is. all lore and information is that it is located where it is.

2

u/Gibeco RSN: Bill Teach | Shanty Teach Jun 15 '26

Where would Ashenfall fall into place?

3

u/xhanort7 20 Years Tainted Veteran Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Don't think we have an exact placement beyond North. Full Map of Gielinor? : r/runescape

Ashenfall's map has actually grown since I've played it last. Looks like Umbral Sands will be south of Dowdun Reach June 23rd and the Scorned Wilderness connected somewhere to the sands September 15th

Imagine it won't be long before OSRS gets a new continent or at least a big island chain to go with sailing. Wyrmscraig is a little island getting added from a player design contest. Zeah pretty much done now though besides another pass over Great Kourend to touch it up since it's a decade old now and the team has gotten much better at designing new areas.

2

u/gbear605 gbear605 Jun 15 '26

They've stated that it's to the north of the mainland, presumably there's magic making it warm.

1

u/Insanefinn After 15 years... Jun 16 '26

Or maybe it is so north that it is south

Maybe it is the opposite side of the planet

Tbf that's because so much of the world was already crowded they couldn't really expand the surface so there is a tremendous amount of stuff underground or off planet or in another realm and such. RS3 is the much bigger world it's just hides it.

3

u/Everestkid 19 year account. Two 99s. Efficiencyscape. Jun 15 '26

Pretty much.

Remember that RS3 also had a whole bank of updates from August 2007 onward that OSRS just generally never got. Some of them got added later like the Grand Exchange, but in general they just aren't there. This means OSRS had a sort of "clean slate" while RS3 had an already packed full world in 2013. Doesn't help that OSRS also just kinda skipped the whole RSHD era, so any addition to RS3 by default takes more work than an addition to OSRS, especially area expansions. In terms of new areas on the mainland since EOC there's Prifddinas, Menaphos and the area for The Needle Skips and that's basically it. And Prifddinas technically isn't on the "main map" anyway, it's got its own tab.

Ideally they'd rescale the RS3 map so that there's a better sense of verticality and distance - render distances are huge in RS3 now, they just weren't considering seeing that far away in 2001 - but that's a Herculean task, basically asking for a full game rewrite at that point.

3

u/shadowthehh Jun 15 '26

I've been pretty much entirely out of touch with RS3 for over a decade. I only just today found out how much more land there is in OSRS and it completely threw me for a loop. Like what do you MEAN there's an ENTIRE continent in OS that just doesn't exist in the "future"?

1

u/Insanefinn After 15 years... Jun 16 '26

The official map Jagex sells implies Zeah does still exist in whatever is going on in rs3, we just won't be going there

Like Ashenfall

-2

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Jun 15 '26

OSRS is pretty much the "what if" of Runescape 3.

What if RS3 didn't cram every new update into pre-existing land? Well you have Zeah and Varlamore.

I know Jagex is slowly decluttering the game, but I wish they sped it up with an entire new landmass for existing content. I think it's just bad timing for Havenhythes release etc, but some mainland content still needs to go elsewhere. It's still jammed with stuff.

1

u/Insanefinn After 15 years... Jun 16 '26

Honestly I would prefer taking what we have and doubling the area Or I guess it would be times 4 area, times 2 the distances

1

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Jun 16 '26

As much as I would like that option to, I think the logistics of expanding the mainland (say, 2x the size of Falador/areas around it), would be such a massive headache, to the point you would need to start from the very edges of the mainland, and calculating exactly how big you'd want to make certain areas.

Want to 2x the size of Misthalin? How far do you push back Morytania and Kharidian desert on the map.

1

u/Insanefinn After 15 years... Jun 16 '26

Yes, it would be a massive task. What I mean is scaling up the entire world's area. Buildings and such could remain the same, but the world itself would be bigger, making it less cluttered. Tomb of Guthix wouldn't be right outside Ardougne, wizards' tower wouldn't be blocking the way from Sarim to the sea, teleports wouldn't be few tiles apart... but I know it would be a massive task that affects everything. It could be the biggest effort in the game's history

1

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Jun 16 '26

As far as I've seen from Jagexs dev kit, it doesn't look like you can insert land in between areas, only 'onto'.

1

u/Insanefinn After 15 years... Jun 16 '26

Yes, as said, it would take herculean effort. Might not be worth it

1

u/Periwinkleditor Jun 15 '26

I'm really interested to see where Sailing takes the map, particularly in seeing the surface of the Cursed Archipelago (where I'm pretty sure ED3 takes place on the bottom) and Imcandoria.

1

u/EoFinality Jun 16 '26

That's so beautiful

1

u/Valdes_R Jun 16 '26

Forgot Ashenfall which is North of the mainland, Plus Anachronia and Fossil island is the same location, Anachronia is RS (rs3) fossil island, just pulled into the future. But overall I LOVE this, looks really good.

2

u/shadowthehh Jun 16 '26

Didn't know Ashenfall existed while I was making this, and then also see that we don't know exactly how far north it is. Could be the "arctic", could be the other side of the planet.

Similarly for Anachronia/Fossil Island. Honestly I'm very out of the loop on what like 75% of the map even is.

1

u/Valdes_R Jun 16 '26

Happens, for the arctic, I would just say it is north of Havenhythe, like "top of the world" and the world is bigger than it seems.

But nonetheless 10/10 attempt!

1

u/Rombom [KARIL THE TAINTED] Jun 16 '26

Everyone is noting that Fossil Island is Anachronia, but who has noticed that Havenhythe may be Varlamore?

1

u/shadowthehh Jun 16 '26

Mother fucker I JUST finished a revision

I also made such map 1y ago :)

3

u/shadowthehh Jun 15 '26

A nice, went and found it. Looks way better, too. Glad this got your attention.

6

u/vVerce98 - QoL Creator - Jun 15 '26

Always nice to see others posting such stuff too :)

I asked a jmod if the world map art could be updated with all new content > the one you find on the wiki on the world map page.

Cuz I would love an updated map from both games as a poster (maybe through Displate)

2

u/Narangren World 42 Jun 15 '26

A Displate would be incredible.

1

u/Big-Objective-6585 Jun 15 '26

Anyone else not have a clue what the whole left side of the map is?

1

u/shadowthehh Jun 15 '26

Same, buddy. Apparently it's been there for over 10 years, though. Don't know how I didn't notice it all this time.

1

u/xhanort7 20 Years Tainted Veteran Jun 15 '26

Zeah is a continent the OSRS team has been slowly building on for the past decade. It's pretty much done now. Zeah - OSRS Wiki Has a dozen quests and bosses, raids, etc. It being so well received is part of the reason we're getting Havenhythe.

0

u/mark_crazeer Jun 15 '26

Wuahanko needs to move a but further east. Currentøy its Anachronia is fosil island. Why did you even bother to
Mess with ungael. I dont care what the iron enclave is its badically the node. And if yiu messed with ungael why not menaphos?

Other than that. This is great.

0

u/Emotional-Menu-411 Jun 15 '26

I still hate how they made anachronia so ridiculously large.

1

u/Michthan 300,000 Subscribers! Jun 15 '26

They had to make the agility course the main method of transportation.
