They usually say "I built", even more evocative

u/diegoasecas 21d ago
i do use "i built", i don't see anything wrong with it

No problem at all, but it's been a while since I've started seeing posts titled "I built this tui" and It was AI which built it

They will when your slop grenade breaks something and someone has to rewrite it

Clearly you don’t have any skills in that department bc you’re not writing code yourself

“Anyone still drawing pictures by hand?”
You’re as much a programmer as someone prompting ChatGPT for art is an artist
1
u/ArjixGamer 21d ago
Tbh, most of us are miserable at work because we are forced to work on projects that have no love.
It's like forcing an artist to draw a specific soulless style over and over again, and they can't say no because it's how they make money.
An artist would definitely use gen AI in that context, it's borderline depressive.

So your solution is to slop up everything you do? You stop writing any code at all outside of work too?

except code meant to solve a problem is not art
6
u/nakshatriyan 21d ago
And that’s why you will always be a mediocre programmer.
An elegant solution is definitely art.

u/ArjixGamer 21d ago
An elegant solution is not what the boss wants, the boss wants a quick solution that won't cause immediate problems, but is ok if it causes problems in 2 months.

u/nakshatriyan 21d ago
This is fair. But what does this have to do with coding your own projects in your own time? Why even care about the language you use if you just want a generated solution?

u/ArjixGamer 21d ago
It is an addiction.
I don't find it healthy, it ruined the fun of programming for me.
But I can't resist it, I have ADHD and it hits my brain like a drug
I can make 100 times the slop I would have been able to make w/o it.
(yes, I made slop before AI, but I at least was proud of it, can't say that about AI slop)

u/nakshatriyan 21d ago
I can sympathize with that. You can still enjoy it. Let the agent code for you at work - who cares about that? But if you want to enjoy programming again you have to do some on your own

u/diegoasecas 21d ago
i'm fine with being a mediocre programmer, i want code to work, not to be elegant. i leave those pursuits for the non-mediocre.

Then what’s your point? The original commenter asked if anyone was still coding by hand. My point is there are people who still value the artistry in coding. Enjoy mediocrity.
