Free and cheap kids meals at area restaurants

This is something I started to build years ago, when my kids were young enough that we could take advantage of such deals; that ship has long-since sailed, but the idea never left me, so I finally took action.

What do you think? Useful? Better as an app? Waste of time? I'm curious what people think!

Lifting a historic house?

I have an older (ca. 1900-1910) house in Church Hill, and it drives me absolutely nuts that the half above-ground basement, which has the footprint for a den, guest room/office, and bathroom, is only 6' deep. The kitchen and bathrooms need a reno at some point in the next 5-8 years, and I dream of just tackling them all at once. My detached house is about 5 feet from my neighbor (if that), so it feels like raising the foundation by 2-3 feet is probably more structurally stable, but also kind of insane. The basement appears to be all-brick, and there is at least one chimney involved.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with either sort of foundation fuckery and, if so, thoughts/experiences/references to a structural engineer.

Looking for Cat Safe Treats

My cat is turning 7 on Wednesday, and instead of just throwing together a bunch of random things in a bowl and calling it a cake lol I wanted to maybe get him a special baked treat or even a mini cake. He started prozac recently and is getting used to taking pills daily and I wanted to do something a little extra special for him. He's my best friend and he deserves the world.

It's so easy for dog owners to get thousands of special baked goods and dog cakes. Every farmers market I go to has a dog bakery, every dog store sells them, we have legit dog bakeries.

Do we have any place in town that sells nicer cat fresh baked stuff? Thank you in advance!

Drop-in Daycares

My wife and I are expecting a baby in early December. We both work full time but have parental leave for the first 8 weeks. Our schedules are pretty flexible but we are looking for a drop in daycare on the Northside or surrounding Henrico areas (we live in glen allen but both work in the city). We would be looking for 1-2 days a week and some weeks we wouldn’t need any days. Any and all recommendations are welcome. Feel free to include any pricing as well, all these daycares we call/ research seem to want to keep that info to themselves. Thanks!

Water heater permit?

I'm replacing a water heater myself in my own house. The city technically requires permits for water heater replacements, but is this something people actually do? The permit system seems very set up for contractors, ie I had to enter a "contractor name" (my own name), they're asking for lots of info about exact costs, etc. Just wondering what other people have done in the past.
