I’m so lost! Any help appreciated

Okay, trying to fix a 2003 Saab 9-3 linear for my son. We got the oil leak from the turbo taken care of and bought a brand new battery. iIt ran great. In a test run, I came out of the store to no start. No click in the engine, but all the lights on. Then as we were waiting for the tow truck, it started to click, but still no start.

Got it home and same thing, but then it clicked in the engine compartment several clicks, no start and then back to no click. THEN I put it into neutral and it won’t even move!

What the hell is going on? It’s getting worse just sitting there and it was purring like a kitten. I asked ai and it said the tow truck driver may have shoved it into gear while rolling and it may have jammed the parking pawl? Not even sure what that is.

Where should I even start?!? I’m so frustrated

Check battery connections, check for corrosion around terminal, check alternator

weird how reddit came around from demonizing anyone for editing comments to people now being catty about NOT doing it

Start at the beginning, check your fuses and check your relays. The fuel pump relay and ignition relay are in a small tray under the dash in the back left corner of the footwell. You can see if a fuse is burned or not visually. Make sure the relays are all seated in their sockets, give them a little tap against something hard and check the resistance with a multimeter to see if they are working. Once you know those are okay you can move to the starter and fuel pump themselves.

Are you moderately comfortable with auto repair? If so, when in this condition, I would use a jumper wire to bypass the starter relay. That will help you determine which side of the relay the issue is... The starter/battery/wires side or the ISM side. Knowing that will help point you to the next step.

The mentions of CPS are not appropriate here. This is not a CPS problem.

Remove and polish the connection from the negative battery terminal to the frame (ground connection) . In general, faulty ground connections are commonly overlooked on old cars and motorcycles. It causes all sorts of battery and other random electronic issues. Even if the connection looks good, it’s worth removing and cleaning just to be sure.

Sounds like a CPS issue.

Check CPS, no revs going up on crank (should be very small movement if it is working right on the RPM)

Check if the fuel pump is engaging. It sounds like a machine whirr when you turn the key, if there's no noise could be an area to look at.

I had an issue with my 9-3 2001 se transmission range sensor, that was giving a no crank no start, even though at times it would start and turn over, trying it after parking would give no crank until waiting 30m to 60m later and then it would come back to life.

Just giving my own experience, not an expert at all, just dealt with the issues regarding starting and turning over more than once. Hope you're able to find a solution
