u/ImVeryLaggy 3d ago
Yes i saw the post too... Rule of 4 is for four CONSECUTIVE posts of the same thing.
Not every 4th comment regardless of what they said.

Or just context, it's a reply, could just be something being mislabeled as "rape" and that's why it's downvoted

edit: wait, no, iff it were edited then there'd be an (edited) marker at the top... unless that was edited out?

If you edit your comment less than 5 minutes after making it there won't be an edit flag (don't quote the 5 minutes, I just know that if you do it shortly after posting the comment it won't show)
Edit: editing 23 minutes after to see the tag

I see no edit tags on any comment in this thread, and can’t recall ever seeing an edit tag on Reddit. Maybe it only shows up for the person editing their own comment? Or maybe it truly is just an iPhone thing.
Edit: Editing my own comment to see if something pops up for me

u/Cyb3r-R0nin 3d ago
It must be an iPhone thing, as I see it throughout Reddit including on other people's comments and I'm on Android

u/Vivid_Effective3691 3d ago
So you're on an Android and that guy is on an iPhone. I see your comment shows an edited tag and theirs doesn't. Is this some iphone speciality?

Yeah i saw that post too, lowkey funny (they were talking about downvoting the fourth comment, so someone decided to comment that as the fourth comment)

"AITAH for asking my 14yo stepdaughter to wear a better pyjama top to avoid her breasts showing."
Rape is bad
"Arsenal have scored 20 of their 21 goals in open play in all competitions this season, the highest ratio of any Premier League side (95%)."
Rape is bad
"Is rapeseed oil unhealthy or not?"
Rape is bad
...you can't just print upvotes by coming up with the most uncontroversial opinion you can think of and then commenting it in unrelated discussions

that’s not the context, look into most downvoted comment here where i explained it

u/Blazej_kb 4d ago
context:
post asking what opinion will get you downvoted badly and there was chain of comments saying “any opinion in fourth comment” and it was fourth comment

u/Lionheart1224 4d ago
Okay, so this went from being potentially horrible to absolutely hilarious. I love it.

u/Aleksandrovitch 3d ago
Is there somehow reddit lore I’ve missed? 4th comment?
2
u/Jolly_Echo_3814 3d ago
its just a thing. where in a comment chain the 4th comment gets downvoted. i think the joke is when people repeat a comment so the joke is that 3 upvoted comments say the same thing and the 4th comment says the same thing but is downvoted to hell for no reason.

u/WhisperingIEYEI 4d ago
New head cannon is commenter saw the chain, saw only three comments and dropped this gem knowing it could be the fourth comment

u/temporalCompanion 4d ago
It's not really a headcanon, I'm pretty sure that is exactly what happened

I'm loving the reddit logic here of "let's downvote the context comment out of spite for OP not putting it in the post body so that the context gets further moved down to the bottom and less people see it"
1
u/Particular-Jeweler41 3d ago
I don't think that's the reason why he was downvoted. His post indicates something really strange and unexplainable around a serious topic, and the full context of the post (which OP already had before posting) perfectly explains why it's not strange or unexplainable.
OP pretty much just misled people and that's why they got downvoted on both of their comments.
