It's not really surprising. For most people, the city is just a place you drive past to get to the park. Tourists don't see the city. The park is well-maintained by the state.

But isn't the side that people go to for the attraction in Canada?

I guess you prefer the crime-ridden destroyed city image that you have? I went for the first time earlier this year and I hate to tell ya.. it was beautiful and I really enjoyed it. I am sorry.

OP needs to learn the difference between targeted violent crimes rates and random violent crime rates.

It's a factor rarely considered when researching how "dangerous" places are. As a tourist you are generally safe in locations with these metrics because the violent crime is more aimed at 2 parties that know each other rather than a random tourist getting stabbed for their phone.

Tourist are more likely to have their car broken into and stuff stolen out of it. But this is a widespread problem in any tourist area.

The stats are misleading. Niagara Falls has high crime because it’s a post-industrial city that lost its economic base which led to persistent poverty, population decline, and neighborhood decay. Tourist areas are well policed and generally safe.

It's an interesting loop. Poverty causes crime in a similar fashion as crime causes poverty.

"The stats are misleading its bad the same reason detroit is bad and im not dead so bad things dont happen there so be quiet"

I never said bad things don’t happen there. I said the city’s overall crime statistics don’t necessarily reflect the risk to tourists. There’s a difference between high crime in struggling neighborhoods and the safety of well-policed tourist areas. You’re arguing against something I never said.

“Wahh, I hate that tourists come to this tourist destination and think it’s a place for tourists! Even though it’s what we’ve built our entire image on.”

You're confusing Canadian-side with the US-side

As long as I don't get stabbed and thrown over the waterfall I don't really give a shit how run down the rest of the city is

yeah it's wild how people just assume the whole area is thriving when they only see the gargantuan tourist traps from the bridges

Its not the tourists its the locals slaughtering and shooting the other locals

That doesn’t really affect the tourists.

Crime happens everywhere. If you account for the extra people in the area, the crime rates are a lot closer to the US norm

It’s not really closer to the US norm, but it is closer to the norm for other economically depressed areas in the US.
