Shaivism Discussion For those who practise Shiva bhakti, what does your practice actually look like?

I've been curious about how different people incorporate their devotion to Mahadev into everyday life.

Some people follow a regular jaap routine, some visit temples frequently, some listen to Shiv kathas, and others may have a much simpler personal practice.

For those who worship Shiva, I'd love to hear about your experience:

  • What did your practice look like over the past week?
  • Are there particular times or situations when you find it difficult to maintain your routine?
  • When you want to chant, read about Shiva, or listen to a katha, what do you usually turn to?

I'm interested in what people genuinely do, not what an ideal routine should look like. Everyone's experience is different, and I'd love to learn from yours. Har Har Mahadev! 🔱

I mean to do more but I try to chant Om Namah Shivaya, Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha daily, each 108 times while doing jaap with my rudrakshak, listen to Raag Bhairav regularly, all when facing North or East, and observe Somvar Vrat weekly. I also have a little shrine where I have a shivling, a trishul damroo, white and yellow cloths. Sometimes burn some incense. When it's spring and summer again, I intend to put some datura flowers in my shrine. It felt auspicious that my new apartment happened to be near some flowers I'm pretty sure are such.

I'd like to find a mandir near me which accepts me, I feel incredibly self conscious being a white trans woman who came to being a Shiva bhakta later in life. It would be nice to find a guru of some kind too, I'm drawn to Trika. I have a shivling I sometimes carry on my person, sometimes I sit and stare at it while contemplating Mahadev.

Hara Hara MahaDeva You are truly blessed to be a bhakta of Lord Shiva. Mahadeva accepts anyone and everyone as we are all his children and he does not see our appearance alone but our shraddha (faith), bhakti (devotion), and sharanagata (surrender).

I believe its fine in most mandirs for a white trans woman to visit. Just relax and be yourself. But if a mandir is not available, your home puja mandir is just as important.

You now learn online if a real living physical guru is not available at the moment.

May your spiritual journey and life be happy and blessed always.
