NOTICE ON NO ADVERTISING ON THIS SUBREDDIT.

IMPORTANT rules for posting and replying.

This subreddit has banned advertising for years. This includes any products, services, establishments, rental agencies, etc.

It has also banned self promotion such as vlogs, blogs, YouTube links, etc.

The reason for this is because there were so many advertisements and multiple posts that the subreddit became nothing but advertisements. This is not the intent of the subreddit. Like subreddits for other cities, it’s meant as a forum to discuss life, living, and working in Shenzhen. It is NOT a platform for free advertising!

Despite this, the mods are still taking down multiple posts a day for advertising and self promotion of blogs and vlogs. We tried to create a separate subreddit, r/ShenzhenMarketplace, for advertising, but we still are getting these here and then complaints from the posters that for some reason they should be exempt from the rules.

Therefore, with immediate effect, the enforcement is going to be much stronger.

Any post that promotes or advertises any product, service, event, establishment, or venue will be removed and the poster banned for 7 days. Second time the poster will be banned for 30 days, third attempt and the poster will be banned permanently.

All vlogs, blogs and YouTube links will be taken down and the poster banned permanently on the first instance.

Posts asking for services such as guides, translators, drivers, and sourcing non-consumer products will be locked. All replies to such posts must be a DM to the OP. Replies under the post are now considered to be self-promotion. This can be avoided in r/ShenzhenMarketplace WHICH IS SPECIFICALLY FOR ADVERTISING.

Examples of what is allowed and encouraged:

Experiences living and working in Shenzhen, good and bad.

General and specific questions about living and working in Shenzhen.

How to find someplace in Shenzhen and how to get there.

Cool places you’ve been and why you liked it. If it’s a particular establishment this is not allowed (promotion), but can be placed in r/ShenzhenMarketplace.

Where to buy something is fine as long as it’s a non-commercial product meant for personal use.

Posts sharing pictures of a place in Shenzhen, where it is, and something about it.

Bending the rules banning advertising will no longer be tolerated.

New Shenzhen subreddit for advertising.

Hi all,

I have been playing with the idea of a separate subreddit just for advertising products and services. I have created r/ShenzhenMarketplace. This is specifically for advertising, so if you are offering a particular product or service, or are looking for a particular product or service, post it in r/ShenzhenMarketplace.

What cannot be posted is anything illegal under the laws of the People's Republic of China or Reddit rules in general.

No advertising or posting for personal blogs, vlogs, or any influencers, as is the case in this subreddit. This is going to be strictly enforced in both subreddits moving forward. Nobody is really interested in your particular hot take, and I've personally seem some terrible ones.

Advertising or reviews for bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels, parks, massage (legal ones please) would be most welcome in the r/ShenzhenMarketplace sub.

It would be helpful if you put in the title of the post what your intent is (example: For Sale, Seeking for, For rent, etc.) and then some description following (Blenders, pianos, 2 bedroom) and then the details in the body of the post. Details are important and posts may be deleted if they have minimal content.

DO NOT SPAM THE SUBREDDIT. Posting the same thing every day will not be allowed. Consider that three days or more for the same content will be the most allowed.

ONE LAST POINT: Since there is a specific subreddit for advertising far, far grey area posts will be allowed here. This subreddit should be more focused on life and interest in Shenzhen.

Thanks everyone and let's see how this goes.

Recently saw two snakes while running along this stretch of Qianhai Bay, close to the wheel. Another redditor helped identify the snakes: 1st picture is a Chinese Cobra, venomous, so please be careful! Snake in the 2nd picture is harmless, apparently.

I'm sure they'll leave you alone if you leave them alone, just watch out for the venomous boiz

Weekend Huaqiangbei buddy? Fluent English speaker here, happy to help first-timers navigate the markets

Hey everyone,

Shenzhen local here. I studied and worked in the US, so I'm fluent in English, and I currently work in consumer electronics (finance BP at a cross-border hardware brand).

I hang around Huaqiangbei on weekends and keep seeing first-time foreign buyers struggling with the language barrier and figuring out how the markets work. If you're new here and could use someone to help you communicate with vendors, navigate the markets (SEG, Yuanwang, Huaqiang Electronics World...), or just have a chat — happy to help, no charge.

Why am I doing this? Honestly, I'm curious too. I work on the finance side of this industry but I've never seen the ground-level trade up close — I want to understand how sourcing actually works, what buyers care about, and how the markets really operate. So this is a learning experience for me as well.

I'm not a sourcing expert (still learning the stalls myself!), but I can make sure you don't get lost in translation — literally.

DM me if interested!

Cheers

真的非常无语人行道骑行道写的明明白白,有些人就是要反着来,甚至还走路中间带耳机,骑个车车多能理解,但是你人在那瞎走,真的不知道说啥了。

Where in Shenzhen did you have the best experience of your life?

Hey all! Forget about average nights out, did you ever had a truly legendary one?

What’s the place in Shenzhen where you had an incredible night, met unforgettable people, or experienced something that’s permanently etched in your memory?

It’d be great to know the spot and hear the story of what went down!

Looking local or overseas person who knows Chinese

Hi everyone,

To reduce confusion here "who am I part first "

I'm a 35 year old Indian man living in Australia.

I am visiting china specifically shenzen soon, so I'm looking for someone online with I can learn a little bit of Chinese and in return he or she can learn English as well. And it would be cherry 🍒 on top if we can meet when I will be in china.

I would love to have someone on my side while I will be in china .. however gender doesn't matter too much if the vibe matches... But I would love to have a female friend because it would be easy to communicate and easy to build a bond ... However I'm into person not too much into gender part of it.

In return, you can learn English and have a nice friend on the other side of the globe. OR you can be my paid guide while I will be in china which can save me a lot of time with your local knowledge and you can make little bit money as well if you want to.

Jay

Traveling to Shenzhen after HK! Need advice on apps to meet local guys, hotel locations, and sightseeing.

Hi everyone!
I’m a Korean gay guy in my early 30s. I visited Hong Kong last year and had a great time, so this time I’m planning to visit Hong Kong again and take a trip over to Shenzhen as well.
I’d love to get some advice from locals or travelers who’ve been there recently:
Dating Apps: I’ve read a lot of reviews saying Grindr doesn't really work/isn't popular in mainland China. What dating apps do hot Chinese guys actually use to meet up? (Are apps like Blued or Finka the go-to choices?)
Accommodation: Which district or area in Shenzhen would be best to stay in for convenience and nightlife access?
Sightseeing: What are some must-visit places or fun things to check out in Shenzhen?

Thanks in advance for any tips and recommendations!

Studying at TSINGHUA SIGS/SUSTECH

Hey people, I'm looking into applying to a control science and engineering masters at Tsinghua SIGS or SUSTECH (english taught). I have not yet messaged a supervisor but I know who I want to contact, I just need to refine some of my github projects (I hope it's not too late to contact supervisors?). I very much so admire the advancements in technology that these universities achievee, but some of the online reviews worry me. People say that the learning experience for an international student in China is not so good as professors don't teach that well, is there any truth in this nowadays? Does the university offer good english taught classes and environments? I understand it's China and things are supposed to be in Chinese, but is the experience actually world class? Thank you very much so for helping me!
