I want to start a shrimp tank but I have no idea where to begin

I have no experience with keeping shrimp or any fish for that matter but I am looking for a new hobby and shrimp keeping has intrigued me. Is there a step by step how to because I have no clue on where to begin. I've looked at the side bar but still I have no idea.

Mod Poll: Should We Ban Ai Use Altogether On This Sub.

It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

Discussion Big mama hopefully recovering our colony

Post image
32 Upvotes

lost most of our colony to a fungal infection 😢 lost two of our reoccurring producers in the wipe out. it was heartbreaking and defeating. today we woke up to this big mama 🥲 our past shrimp never had this many eggs in their satchel before. so excited, hoping there’s a shot at our colony rebuilding and not having to restart the tank as a whole.

we went from over 30 to possibly under 10 in a two week span, woke up to dead shrimp every morning.. after this last water change the deaths have seemed to stop and the white fuzz they had has been clearing up 🤞 tank is 5 months old, 6 gallons, water parameters are food

I have set up 10l or 3gal Cube a few days ago and thinking about adding blue jelly neo caridina and some amanos but i'm unsure if its to small for them.

I give my shrimps freeze dried blackworms and they go crazy for them. Often leads to fights 🤣

Help: Breeding How many shrimp can I safely fit?

I have a ~15 gallon tank stocked with 20 neos, 4 Amano, 4 oto, 4 pygmy Corys, and 8-9 exclamation Rasbora. I now have 5 eggnant mothers and many more saddled ready-to-be mothers. Question is, should I set up an extra tank? Or is this enough space to house what’s to come?

Help: Emergency Why are my shrimp dying?

Thumbnail

The tank is two months old now, 5 gallons, and (had) four neocardinias as well as chili rasboras. Two of the shrimp have died since getting them maybe two weeks ago, and now overnight one more has died- I caught the fourth one to put in my smaller strictly shrimp tank. Parameters are in the next image, and temperature is ~78-80 degrees. I do regular top ups and don’t do a regular water change, but I feel like my parameters are right. Please help !!

I started with 6 cherry shrimp in 29 gallon with my ember tetras, black neon, tetras, and mystery snail but they disappeared. Until today when I moved some plants around and two came out of hiding. But then I see this! 😅 I thought my mystery snail was having a shrimp dinner! But no, upon closer inspection, they were just sharing an algae wafer.

Just wondering if I'm blind or they're close to hatching? I only noticed her a few days ago but doesn't mean Momma wasn't hiding

It's been 7 days since I added the shrimp to my new tank, lost 3 in 11 with the adaptation, but the survivors are having a good time.

Help: Emergency Is he dying or struggling to molt?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Tank is ~1 month old. Water tests are clear and match parameters. Been doing partial water changes about once a week. I had just done my partial change two days ago and tested my water today - all clear. Poor orange fella has been on his back or side most of today slightly wiggling. His tank mates keep coming over occasionally and bothering him. I can’t tell if he’s struggling to molt or if he’s dying. This is my first tank, so I’m new to this. My local store doesn’t have calcium supplements, so going to the bigger store tomorrow to get some. In the meantime, what am I dealing with?

Edit: poor fella didn’t make it. Thanks for your help

Planning on having a watery cave with shrimp and plant, with a land portion on top. But not sure how the shrimp and plants will do in the cave.

Out of 6 cherry shrimp that I got yesterday from a local aquarium store, two of them have this long white spot on them.

Are they still cherry or is it a different type of shrimp?
