Feature Request Request for feature for pausing voice notes
I know that a lot of users are opposed to this but I find myself wishing there was a feature that would let users pause and resume a voice recording instead of only having the option to cancel or send the voice note. That's a big plus that WhatsApp has and I think it would make the user experience for people coming from WhatsApp even greater. I wonder if this is something the devs would ever consider.. I'm on iOS
Edit. Feature request was submitted by someone else already back in 2018. https://community.signalusers.org/t/pause-while-recording-voice-message/3357

See now this is a good idea. Plus it probably makes the voice notes nicer for the listener.
Submit a request on the official community forum and link to it here :)

Apparently there already is a feature request for this, created already in 2018. Some good mock up suggestions were made by a user back in 2025.. https://community.signalusers.org/t/pause-while-recording-voice-message/3357

I commented there that I want this feature too and my comment got removed for being “inappropriate”, lol.

Maybe I'm atypical, but I'd rather receive a small batch of voice notes instead of one big one.

Also valid. I’d argue the ability to pause the recording wouldn’t stop someone from sending multiple short ones.

One hack until this is implemented is to record in the Voice Memos app (which supports pausing), then share to Signal.
