Question 49“ Ultrawide Monitor comparison
I’m looking for some comparisons between 49 inch ultrawide Monitors for Sim Racing.
I currently have a 1440p 27” triple monitor setup but it annoys me for several reasons.
That’s why I’m now looking for a 49” monitor.
Obviously, the most popular candidate would be a G9 Odyssey monitor. But the oled version comes close to 1000€.
I just saw the MSI MPG 491CQP Oled monitor. At the moment it’s available for 720€.
Is there by chance anyone who has this monitor and can give me a review on it?
I’m also not entirely sure if I want an oled screen or a VA Panel. Surely Oled looks better but Burn in kinda scares me.
Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Outside of cost the big decision imo is 1000R vs 1800R which dictates VA or OLED (or vice versa depending on how you look at it). There are pros and cons to both so only you can decide what works best for your specific setup / use case. Weight is one factor that could matter as the OLED js extremely light compared to the VA so if you are using an extending arm vs fixed profile I could see that being a complication.
I went through exactly the same decision a few years ago and weighted them both equally so let price be the deciding factor. First sale was an 1800R OLED but turned out to be a faulty panel so I returned and next sale was a 1000R VA and I am still running that G95C today and very happy with it.
In a perfect world we would have a 1000R OLED but as of now it is still a compromise to one side or the other. The 1000R matters more if you can get the display in really close, I am at 53cm for reference.

Looking at your setup now and I would go 1800R OLED. The weight savings is crucial as I don’t know I would trust the VA on that sliding pole. And it appears you are limited in how close you can get the display.

That’s really valuable information. I didn’t even look at the radius yet.
Thanks!

Burn-in worry is fair for sim racing since HUDs and overlays sit in the same spot for hours. With either OLED, confirm the warranty covers burn-in, or go VA.

Burn in sucks and especially when you spend top $$ on a good monitor. That said, make sure your fine with the much smaller FOV you will have stepping down from triples. That FOV is why i keep on with my 27' triples. My only change will be to 32' or larger triples.
Good luck with your choice, picking out a monitor now is not as easy as it used to be with so many choices.

Yeah, I dread it.
I know it will almost half my FOV. But I use my triple screen setup on a desk (see my profile if interested). So it’s definetly not ideal. Having to move the monitors around, having to make sacrifices with monitor height and distance just keeps on annoying me to the point that I don’t race as much as id like.
Once I’m done with uni and have a bigger flat I’ll have a dedicated rig and for sure triple screens again. But for now I think UW is the way to go1

I see, in that situation with out a rig and trip stand.....your better off with a SUW. Good luck!

From what I’ve read a lot of people end up returning it and going for the 57” Samsung or the 45” LG. The main complaint being the 49” is like looking through a letterbox
