Hukporti loss
I’m still thinking about this, both in the sense that I’m really sad for the guy because he was finally gonna have a bigger role in the league, and also in terms of our front court depth as he was gonna be a key piece.
Can someone assuage my concerns? What are we gonna do? I love Bona but he doesn’t really rebound the right way, hard to explain. Hukporti would‘ve been that guy.
I guess just wait till December when they can make a trade or is there something else that can be done? Any thoughts on this in general

Sixers will make a move, worry not, my friend

They could be making moves now! I'd drop Rayan Rupert and sign a two way big! Seems like they want to hold on to Tacko Fall. If that's the case so be it. But, at least you don't waste a valuable two way spot on a guard/forward that's not giving you much in terms of defense/offense.

I think they’re waiting for better options to open up closer to the deadline, there will be sellers willing to trade their back up centers for assets, and there will also be the buyout candidates. I think patience will be a virtue if they time this right.

Agreed! If you are talking about a roster change (i.e. packaging Hukporti's contract and maybe a 2nd round pick to a team to open up cap room to sign say Moussa Cissé or Christian Koloko) But, for a two way we can be proactive right now. Two way contracts don't impact the roster and the team's salary cap like a normal roster player would! You can drop or add a player on a two way at anytime without impact to a team's cap especially if its done before the start of the season!

If I had to guess they might be waiting to see who gets cut in the next few days, or maybe I’m coping lol

Yeah! True indeed. Someone mentioned Tony Bradley as a good two way pick up. I just think we could be doing more as far as two way contracts for the time being. That's all!

It’s unfortunate but I’d wager there will be some serviceable bigs available around the trade window or buyout options. Just need to find a way to eat some center minutes until that happens so Joel and whomever else they wanna throw at center don’t get too exhausted.

Nurse mentioned during a recent press conf that Bron could play the 5 as well. I’d rather not our 42 yo king have to do that tbh. Hopefully the others can step up.

Making LeBron play center would be crazy. That's not his position and not his best use on the floor. It just weakens the Sixers at 2 positions instead of just one.
Just use Bona/Barlow/Walker as the backup centers until something that makes sense becomes available later in the season.

I was also high on Huk. Just gotta cross our fingers and hope Bona has improved since last year. We do also have a lot of guard depth so we could trade one of those players for another big.

Feel terrible for him as a person, but I think the impact on the team will be minor. Mainly this is because teams with a lot of new talent like this usually have growing pains to start off. I expect a win ratio of somewhere in the 55% range for the first 30 games or so while the players and coaches work things out.
Then, around that same time, the prorated cost of a vet minimum contract should become available and they can sign another big immediately if needed with the other options of a deadline trade or buyout also on the table.

We'll be fine for two months. Bona is more than serviceable for the time being and we have multiple small ball center options. Our roster is the most stacked it's ever been, so it doesn't make sense to stress over our backup center (the least important position in modern basketball) for a two month period.

we arent gonna do anything. Barlow just takes his spot and its business as usual until December. im not sure why everyone has been overrating Huk before really seeing him play.

If this starting 5 stays healthy they will coast into the top 6 and be a monster playoff contender.
Its only a problem if and when Embiid misses 3 weeks here, and 2 weeks there, and LBJ pulls a groin again (he's 42...), and they are in 6th, ahead of 7th by 2 games, and Bona is out there being athletic and confused.

Who can the Sixers realistically move? There’s picks available to move, I believe. Win-now mode, but the apron is the issue, no? It’s the moveable contracts that will be the problem?

Here is my take, tough break for Hukporti but the Sixers success is not dependent on Hukporti. The Sixers success will be determined by the play of the 5 starters plain and simple.

Most sixer thing for in an offseason where we acquired Jaylen Brown and LeBron, that the season would be derailed because of an injury to our 3rd Center.

Wait till prorated or use small ball line up with Barlow, bron, possibly Wade.
Maybe when tacko is off his injury we bring him up? Idk but it’s not the best losing Huk
Also what’s assuage? Is that like fancy sausage?

Yeah it's a major bummer. He had a chance to prove himself this year and become a decamillionaire. Hopefully he can still have a fulfilling career in basketball. Hate to see it.
