Did they put seatbelts on Monster Mansion?

I don't watch CNN at all and I feel so much safer about not being afraid over stupid stuff. When 36,000 people die a year in car accidents, and another half million from heart attacks compared to four average us deaths per year on roller coasters, I'll take my chance with roller coasters and skip the funnels cake stall.

I mean…maybe, sure you could say that, but the fact that they’re looking into the ride having one flimsy point of failure holding you in, is pretty alarming. You ever been on the Goliath?

This. CNN and every single other media outlet is 'click here roller coasters are deadly' while they run ads in the article for fried chicken, beer and other random BS. Like obesity crisis in this country isn't killing people at an alarming rate. But those beer ads are bringing in cash so they don't care.

Yeah, almost any hobby worth anything has a nonzero chance of killing you, but that doesn't mean that you should just curl up into a ball and hide from everything. You gotta live.

Yeah people are forgetting that even if you include fatalities that are not part of actual ride incidents (as in people wondering into restricted areas and whatnot), it's still like 0.0001% of the fatality rate of things people take for granted...like taking a shower (slipping and falling), getting into a car (obvious), or even taking your dog on a walk. What happened here fucking sucks, but it's a super isolated incident.

It is absolutely, positively ABSURD how normalized car injuries are, in light of all the fearmongering about so many other risks.

How many people aren’t going to go on a roller coaster now, but won’t give a second thought to a voluntary car ride to do something like get ice cream or whatever?

My favorite comparison point is how everyone in the far suburbs is so scared of inner city violence, but never scared of the increased risk of car fatalities from living in the far suburbs.

In New Orleans there was a prominent developer who got killed driving in the far suburbs. Nobody made any comments about how he died.

If he’d have been mugged and shot in the city, however, they would have legit sent in the national guard. It would have been a major political issue.

And the risk of dying in a car crash in the far suburbs is HIGHER.

We were involved in a car collision going from Magic Mountain to dinner at Bob's in Toluca Lake. Earlier that day we were at Knotts. Not a serious collision but still happened.

Crazy how many bots have been bought to post this kinda crap. SF is obviously scared after closing all their B&M rides. And there’s no reason to go to a Six Flags without the B&M rides.

Well, they don’t close all of their B&Ms….. Every B&M ar Cedar Point is operational.

I just dont see how any enthusiast can confidently get on a ride right now regardless of how many people die each year in car accidents

I’m not eager to go to a six flags park right now, but I’d have no issues going to many other parks currently.

You should have no issues going to a Six Flags park.

Considering they’ve had major incidents on two coasters at two different parks with one of those coasters having had years of documented issues plus another plate coming off just yesterday, it’s just not worth the potential risk for something that should be fun. I would feel too anxious and wouldn’t enjoy it. Plenty of other parks to enjoy while waiting for prelim reports on the two recent incidents.

How many collisions on I-20 in the last couple weeks in that area?

The car crash argument is so old because there are so many factors at play and because most of us can’t simply choose not to drive, but as someone who’s been in five accidents (only one that was my fault) and walked away from all of them with only minor injuries at best despite the car being totaled twice, I know to rely on my safety mechanisms. I keep my car up to date on maintenance. I wear my seatbelt. I don’t drive drunk or distracted or recklessly. That doesn’t mean I’ll never be in an accident as I very clearly know firsthand or that I could even die. I also understand the relative low risk of coaster deaths or other significant injuries. That doesn’t change the fact that I’m concerned about the maintenance at six flags parks and would like to wait for the reports. If you think it’s an acceptable risk, that’s fine. Everyone is different. For me, I’m not missing out on anything at all by deciding to wait. I have multiple parks within driving distance that aren’t six flags parks that I can choose to go to if I want. I’m not losing anything by deciding to wait.

Sounds more like irrational fear if you're willing to go elsewhere. You're basing your willingness to go other places because they haven't had anything recently under the assumption that maintenance is better?

Just because you haven't heard anything doesn't mean they're any better. But you do you, just don't push your fears on others.

They had a guest die, a steel bracket fall off a coaster, and a coaster valley in the course of a week

Can't wait to ride the new one at Universal in LA. Why shouldn't I? Do you fly or drive? How can you be so confident in driving when there are multiple deadly collisions daily? I just don't see how anyone should drive, ever.

Because we can do math?

Yeah. I’m not sure what idiots on the road have to do with penny pinching negligence you have zero control over.

But I also don’t feel like the other rides are unsafe. I’m just saying the B&M clamshells are the reason to go to the parks. They don’t have that then why go?

2

u/Real4WD 22h ago

B&Ms with the clamshell restraint.

I went last night. Had a good experience. Staff was in a good mood. Some of the decor was changed out from being skeletons/tombstones to pumpkins and cornstalks.

Couple this with a large piece of metal flying off of Millennium Force at Cedar Point last night after a similar incident left a lady brain dead a couple years ago…Bad week to be in Six Flags PR

-4

u/base4our 1d ago

This wasn’t Millenium Force, it was Top Thrill Dragster. Part of the reason it shut down and was subsequently reopened as Top Thrill 2

Link for those who want to know more

Edit: I am stupid and dumb and cannot read to save my life. I realize you’re referencing a different incident similar to the Top Thrill incident

Got a link to the story? Someone got hit in the head and killed two years ago?

2

u/hookyboysb 1d ago

It was in 2021 and it resulted in the closure of TTD.
