Question Am I able to confront Arcadia after she sent some goons to try to kill me?

Post image

Also, how the hell does she even know it was me that stole her shit? Lol I was being sneaky!

Fairly new playthrough with no mods. I think Lydia snitched on me btw.

First time I played I named my character Astrid. Imagine how confused I was when a hit was put out for me from... myself?

Named my character after my current roommate. Lol he's a short, but very strong, man.

Bro, yes. It was a long enough class to consider it a PCS move and neither of us wanted to go through two full home moves in the span of 7 months. So both of us are here without family, sharing a rental home. Is that enough for you????

It's all good, mate.

Maude, eh?

u/dontaskkwho 6h ago

Lol, my guess was one of the best UFC fighters to ever do it.

u/Old_Man_Drifter 15h ago

I would chastise you for stealing except that on one playthrough that guy who loads the logs onto the fire at the inn in Windhelm called thugs on me and I'd done nothing to him. Weird.

69

u/Rtyeta 15h ago

Can't just throw the big thugs on the pyre, got to have the little ones too!

23

u/LegitimateEngineer26 14h ago

Was it Nils? The cook from Candlekeeps Hall?

6

u/Tasty-Mulberry8073 8h ago

He probably witnesses you taking something from the inn.

7

u/SirCupcake_0 Scholar 7h ago

There are a lot of crimes from Morrowind and Oblivion that are technically no longer crimes, but will make NPC's mad at you, like bumping into items and moving them, so they'll send Hired Thugs and the Dark Brotherhood after you for it

u/SeaImagination2195 16h ago

Whiterun guard sent one on me the day after I became thane ffs

52

u/Gullible_Fun_3980 13h ago

Hey he’s just trying to open up a spot for himself, times have been tough since he took that arrow to the knee

20

u/Coastie071 PC 10h ago

He’s probably the one who did the bulk of the damage against the dragon, then you come along and eat its soul and steal all the fame.

u/NotKnotNaut 16h ago

I'd start shopping around other apothecaries. Because Arcadia's Cauldron will be closing permanently soon.

26

u/Foreign_Kale8773 14h ago

She may not have seen you do it, but you were the only one in her store and some of her supplies are inexplicably missing so she did the math 🤣 That being said, she never hires very competent ruffians so I keep doing it 😂

27

u/Ancient_Prize9077 12h ago

“How dare you send thugs after me for stealing from you!”

23

u/Ippus_21 7h ago

Nope. Nothing you can do about it.

This'll happen the first time you steal something. Whoever you stole from will send goons after you a few days later.

And tbf, you did steal from her.

For me, it's nearly always Anise the witch (or her surviving sister anyway), because her hut just west of Riverwood is one of the first good safe storage locations you can find (and there's an alchemy table in the basement). She gets hostile as soon as you read the note in her basement about recruiting some girl to join the coven, when you come back out, she attacks you and you have to kill her.

I usually try to have them show up in the middle of riverwood, where the guards and whatnot can help me take them out. Then just collect all their armor and sell it for some early money.

6

u/Daspaintrain PC 6h ago

It’s almost always Farengar for me. Gotta get those early soul gems

15

u/Real-Report8490 14h ago

She sent you a loot-box. I like getting those.

13

u/nt_q 16h ago

MightyMouse are you playing Khajiit?

13

u/squirmybobcat 16h ago edited 13h ago

Playing a female nord this time actually. Edit: my first playthrough, many years ago, was a khajiit though. If that indulges in some sort of canonic karma. Haha

18

u/MidniteBlue888 13h ago

Even your horse will snitch on you. Lol

14

u/Objective_Year2409 15h ago

Yes, go murder her, put the note in her inventory as a message to other would be thugs

13

u/Neon_Nuxx 11h ago

I always go to their homes and fill them with cheese

10

u/PhylobVance 10h ago

If you haven’t already… You will find likeminded folk in r/SkyrimCheese, friend

4

u/IanDavey 8h ago

Missed the perfect chance to call it r/EidarScrolls

16

u/Cosmo1222 Alchemist 14h ago

My dude, why are you stealing from her?

Just whip up some potions out of thistle and purple (or snowberries)you'll get back any money on what she has for sale. Take the salts from Farengar to her, she'll let you help yourself to most of what she has anyway.

If this I'd for a bedlam mission, there's a paralysis poison in the Jarl's quarters that all but satisfies that. Top up on bottles of Honningbrew from the meadery.

8

u/DeathandHemingway 13h ago

Go to Farengar, ask if anyone else in Whiterun practices magic, take frost salts to Arcadia, she becomes your friend and you don't have to steal.

9

u/squirmybobcat 13h ago

Idk, man. I started I new playthrough I was just fucking around!

8

u/Cosmo1222 Alchemist 11h ago

👍

I got a thug letter from a character called Dusk. Added by CC. The Elf hunter armour mod

It was signed.

Dusk was a wolf. Who I'd killed.

A signed bounty from a dead wolf.

Great work, Bethesda.

We wouldn't have it any other way tho? Am I right? 😂

5

u/ThereWasNoSpoon 8h ago

Dead wolf for you, slain brother for the Companions.

4

u/International-Cat123 14h ago

This is one of the things that can be bugged and happen when it shouldn’t.

5

u/Zzyxzz 5h ago

Fairly new playthrough with no mods. I think Lydia snitched on me btw.

That is true. I fixed this bug and many more with my Stealth Fixes mod. Any crimes you do and you follower witnesses will be reported.... by your follower.... oh and even by your own horse.

Another bug, which plays into that. When you do crime A and later you get caught by crime B. Crime A will still count, although there was no witness. There are quite a lot of bugs...

1

u/Tara_Chu 4h ago

Wait that's crazy. 😂 I guess that's why it hasn't happened to me lately with my new character that has no followers.

4

u/The-unknown-no-name 15h ago

Classic mighty mouse premise

3

u/god-of-memes- 15h ago

Yeah I wish you could confront them, unfortunately all you can do is give whiterun a reason to hire a new apothecary

4

u/Old-Wolverine-3407 14h ago

I remember Brenuin, did this to me and I was like, how did he get those thugs paid?

5

u/TheUnseen_001 15h ago

Naw. You had it coming lol. Best let it go.

3

u/Lucky_Gaucho 15h ago

She had the goons AT HER SHOP for me...

So i killed them in front of her, stripped them naked, then made her train me and then i stole the money back. She got the memo, didnt send anymore!

3

u/justinizer 14h ago

She’s lucky I need her to buy my stuff.

3

u/BairnONessie 1h ago

Next time don't steal

7

u/squirmybobcat 1h ago

You. You be quiet.

4

u/Soft-Table-4582 15h ago

I always get Moira goons after me after I kill old woman in cabinet close to bleaklow barrows exit.

2

u/buffystakeded 14h ago

Every single playthrough lol

2

u/kosmicTrash 15h ago

Balimund sent some after me. I felt so betrayed, we were friends

2

u/Dart150 13h ago

Somehow every time I play, Anise the witch who lives by Bleak Falls Barrow sends goons after despite the fact stealing from her causes her to be hostile (i always go in her basement to use the enchanting table)

6

u/Equivalent_Rub8329 13h ago

Uhm... thats not the full story sir...

3

u/Dart150 12h ago

I'm saying how is a dead woman sending thugs after me

3

u/BulletheadX 11h ago

That has happened to me as well ... I killed her, and went straight to Riverwood. By the time I got there the three thugs were coming down the street for me.
That didn't go well for them - Alvor seemed to take that shit personally, and it turns out that Faendal is a pretty good shot. :D

2

u/TheVioletParrot 8h ago

I think that killing Anise specifically almost always results in hired thugs being sent after you. BUT IT'S NOT HER THAT SENDS THEM. It's her sister. Which, to be fair, is probably an acceptable response even if both characters are evil.

1

u/Drewnessthegreat 54m ago

How can she send people when she is already dead?

1

u/Dart150 51m ago

That's exactly my point

-2

u/Electrical-Review180 Vigilant of Stendarr 13h ago

Isn't she always hostile?

4

u/CultureSea5111 12h ago

Not when you first get to her shack, at least for me she wasn't this latest play through. Then I went to the basement and came out and got attacked. Now this was like the second thing I did after starting a new run.

2

u/Electrical-Review180 Vigilant of Stendarr 12h ago

Ok thank you! For some reason she attacked me last time without me stealing anything or entering the basement. Maybe it was night and l entered her cabin or something

2

u/Tasty-Mulberry8073 8h ago

She's only hostile if you break into her basement.

2

u/Marakajin 11h ago

Oh! Hulda from the Inn did this to me. I walked in and three bandits ambushed me, inside the Inn. I was playing on legendary and I was level 4. It was not a fun time.

All of this, because I snatched a salt pile to make cabbage soup. She tried to kill me over salt. I'm biding my time until I marry Ysolda and we need a steady business income. She might have an accident with a katana then.

2

u/yoububblyduck 10h ago

You can't confront them, sadly.
What is neat though is that the people actually hire the thugs in game.
I once walked into Belethor's shop. Two thugs were inside and instantly attacked me. After I killed them, I found this message on one of them.
Signed by Belethor.
I tried to talk to him but nothing happened

3

u/Hungry-Fruit 16h ago

Nah you can't call people out on this bs. But I'd still go beat them up regardless.

9

u/squirmybobcat 16h ago edited 13h ago

I'm about to go steal everything in her house right now! Edit: I got caught and submitted to jail time...for the first time since 2011.

5

u/Shnurple 16h ago

The real power move is to go back and sell her the thug's gear

2

u/squirmybobcat 16h ago

Can't yet without that one perk

7

u/TheUnseen_001 15h ago

It'd be a hollow victory by the time you unlock that in the Speech tree lol.
"Remember those guys you sent to kill me? Here is their stuff!"
"Dude, that was like 6 moons ago. And you look like you have the rattles."

3

u/squirmybobcat 14h ago

Fuckin spot on man Edit: or ataxia

1

u/Shnurple 6h ago

Sell her the bounty note

2

u/squirmybobcat 16h ago

This was right after the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller when I went to Riverwood to talk to Delphine.

1

u/Mobius8321 14h ago

Had this happen recently. It also said I was hidden. She must have a shit ton of magic and uses it to spy in her house without having to move from that counter lol

1

u/PlonixMCMXCVI 12h ago

If you steal you will get targeted by those goons no matter if someone saw you.

The point is more "before the dragon born came in the shop the items where there, after he left they disappeared".

Sadly no you can't confront no one about it.

1

u/CultureSea5111 12h ago

Had the same happen a few hours in with some bitch named Moira who I don't think I've met.

1

u/thesanguineocelot Werewolf 12h ago

I mean, this is her confronting you. You stole from her to begin with, I don't think you really have any grounds to confront her on this.

1

u/Robin1706 Stealth archer 11h ago

Can't confront them, but if it's a shopkeeper, that sent thugs after me, I like to loot everything from the thugs and sell it to specifically that merchant.

1

u/cieldobie 10h ago

i've got the lotd mod so i'm collecting everything that isn't nailed down for the museum and i see a shiny green statue at the bits & pieces in solitude but it was 5k so when she's not looking, i grab it. Seconds later i'm outside the city and the goons are already there.

I guess in hindsight, she would've seen something so obviously bright green and expensive go missing easily

1

u/Material_Bedroom_619 10h ago

"How dare you be mad at me for stealing your shit"

1

u/KindLiterature3528 10h ago

Loot their corpses and then seel her all the stuff including the letter.

1

u/Jazzy1oh1 9h ago

Would be a nice mod.

1

u/Escapist-Loner-9791 8h ago

I don't think so, at least not in an explicitly scripted way. This is a random event that can occur whenever you steal from someone.

1

u/Smilymoneyy 8h ago

I tried buying steel from Adrianne, not sure if I'm spelling her name, and she had none, so I waited and stole some from her work area since there were 5 ingots right there. Got jumped by these guys outside of Riverwood on my way to Bleak Falls Barrow for the 200th time. Like I would have paid you dick. But you wouldn't sell em to me.

1

u/Ephemeral_Sin 6h ago

Goons huh ? Well did you beat them......

I'll see myself out

1

u/conspirator9 6h ago

What did OP steal from her shop?😅

1

u/jtlannister 5h ago

Here she comes to save the day

1

u/jozzydan66 3h ago

First time I had goons sent on me was in Riverwood right outside the sleeping giant inn, turns out it was the bartender of the same inn who sent them. Dont know how these mechanics work cause like you I had the door closed and was stealing shit undetected. Tried to confront him to no avail.

This run I had them sent for me this play through by “Black-Briar Mercenary” 😭

1

u/Rez090x XBOX 3h ago

LOL, think you're being sneaky. You're literally the only person who comes into her shop on a regular basis. You ever see anybody else in there? She can put two and two together.

1

u/breast-of-all-worlds 2h ago

No, Skyrim is super passive aggressive 😂

1

u/MagicalGirlPaladin 2h ago

Whiterun has like a couple dozen people living in it and they all seem to know each other quite well, just because she didn't see you do it doesn't mean she doesn't know you did it. Try getting away with anything in a small village and you'll realise.

1

u/Dreadlord_of_Arnor 6m ago

Arcadia has no tolerance for thievery. On one of my recent mage playthroughs I miss clicked something on the counter while trying to talk to her, and she Shouted "You thieving little elf!"

1

u/Marquar234 Mage 14h ago

Hired goons?

1

u/squirmybobcat 13h ago

Goooooooooooooooons

1

u/CheekyChewie Dawnguard 12h ago

hired goons gooners 😏

1

u/OilLiver 13h ago

No and it's the most frustrating thing in the world, I should be able to go see the person who did it, covered in the blood of the hired thugs and show them the note

1

u/squirmybobcat 13h ago

Agreed. Maybe in elder scrolls 6???

1

u/MRBLANK0 10h ago

Is cool rigth? :D

1

u/RedComet313 8h ago

Ugh, the comments not realizing “goons” was used as a very different term just a few years ago, for a long time.

-1

u/Queasy-Answer-8916 13h ago

Lilith Maiden-Loom sent thugs after me. I had to load back momentarily for something in an old save and I actually saw her outside Whiterun TALKING to the three bandits before they jumped me a day or so later. It’s a cool mechanic I didn’t notice otherwise. Yes, I did and up killing Lilith… I do kinda miss her tho I didn’t realize she had ties to Maven 😔
