Announcement Goodbye AI
In the poll asking whether AI should or shouldn’t be accepted on the sub, thankfully an overwhelming majority of us have voted against its use.
AI slop posts are now completely banned from the sub, official renderings released by building developers are to be the only reasonable exception.

Can we ban posts without city names next pretty please?
-2
u/Low_Attorney8605 Mar 22 '26
Depends on whether city is recognizable.

u/SousVideDiaper Mar 22 '26
I'm amazed this even needs to be said, but not everyone recognizes the same things

Glad they're gone. Do gotta admit though, that saguaro skyscraper in Phoenix was absolutely fire 🔥

u/karateguzman Mar 21 '26
Lmao is the post still up?

The Old Bay one in Baltimore was funny, but not funny enough to be allowed on here.

I also did quite like the beer tower in Milwaukee

Ah good, don't have to leave the sub now 👍

u/muffchucker Mar 21 '26
I think it was always going to be a matter of volume. A couple AI posts per month? NBD. Constant low quality daily karma farming? 🤮

Does this sub have a way of detecting AI generated content? Like a legitimate system? I've posted things on other subs in the past that people claimed were AI despite it being a video I took with an old point and shoot.

u/Cat-attak Los Angeles, U.S.A Mar 21 '26
Unfortunately not, and yours is a valid concern.
Giving the relative newness of AI, I assume there is going to be some accidents and mistakes made along the way.
However overtime I am hopeful, AI detection and its accuracy would become more streamlined; Escpecially if Reddit itself treats AI content as an issue.
That being said, diligence would be taken when dealing with removing AI content.

u/heres_the_rang Mar 22 '26
I'm pretty sure there's a thing where you can ask chatgpt to detect invisible watermarks on Ai images if that helps

Saw an awful counter argument to this a few days ago that was like “but… but!! there are only so many pictures of skyscrapers” lmao come on man. Good move team
1
u/JedPB67 Mar 23 '26
That’s not an “awful” counter argument, it’s just the truth - how many posts do we see of ‘Merdeka 118, the world’s second tallest skyscraper’?
Not advocating for AI posts, but that user’s point is spot on, it’s quite rare that posts here provide something new.

Yes.
Yes, this is good.
This is like one of my favorite subs, and I was really saddened by the idea of its enshittification.

I’m surprised this even needed a polling. This is a group about REAL skyscrapers in the REAL world and ai slop has nothing to do with that. Show me real fucking shit.

u/newbson Mar 21 '26
This is not just a welcome development — it’s a testament to the power of community. No bots. Just real, wholesome, skyscraper content. 🤖

the overwhelming majority is so encouraging. it’s nice to see the community rally together like that. official renderings just feel more authentic, you know? keeps the focus on real projects.

the fact that it was an overwhelming majority is pretty cool. it really shows how much the community values genuine content. can’t wait to see more real renderings.

the overwhelming majority voting against it is a big deal. it really shows how much the community cares about keeping things authentic. love that we're prioritizing official renderings, it keeps the quality high. makes a huge difference in how we appreciate these designs.

the overwhelming majority is great to see. it really shows how passionate everyone is about maintaining the integrity of the content here. i remember when similar debates happened in other communities, and it always feels good when the real fans come together. let's keep the focus on those official renderings, they’re what make this place special.

the overwhelming majority thing is great to see, it really shows how much the community values authentic contributions. makes it feel like a real space for all of us to share our love for real architecture. excited to see what comes next.

I'll be honest, I love AI content but I also respect the opinion of the majority, so if people are really bothered with AI skyscrapers I guess we have to do without them
-5
u/holydeniable Mar 22 '26
I think most of these bans are knee jerk reactions. People are scared of AI and the future of their lives/jobs. Banning ai in these reddits gives them a sense of control over what is an uncontrollable situation.

u/Popular_Tomorrow_204 Mar 22 '26
Thanks a lot. There are some subs where ai isnt too bad. That being said, 99% of subs shouldnt Feature ai posts, posts about ai content etc...

So brave

u/WondoMagic Mar 21 '26
If you care for a sustainable future where we build urban cities in a manner that doesn’t desecrate our cities, I would hope you recognize that generating images of grotesque skyscrapers will only drain our rivers.
Real buildings > More data centers to generate fake skyscrapers
I would say it is admirable at least for the moderators to push back on this. Brave is a funny quip though, nice.

Yeah fair. Don’t pretend the comment wasn’t meant to allude to some type of thinking though. AI people love pushing back on “wokeness” and all that that’s what the brave comment was getting at. I don’t care you can generate an image of a massive building if you want. I just think it’s dumb
8
u/Haunting-Detail2025 Mar 21 '26
This literally has nothing to do with wokeness and everything to do with people who have zero concept of how data centers and the water cycle work
1
u/WondoMagic Mar 21 '26
I understand it a little. I have met people who are starting to study data centers built near major rivers and their impact to change in water consumption. So maybe not zero concept.

Finally i can join this subreddit after being a lurker for a while.
Amazing decision! I hope more subs will follow
