On one hand, the future of our children and entire species is at stake. On the other hand, I wouldn't be able to consume as much as I want. Decisions, decisions!

Can someone who will meet Greta soon gift her the breadbook or some Marx or even a contemporary primer on Marxism or leftist thought in general or hell just show her Philosophy Tubes latest video on Climate Grief. She is a single issue activist (climate) whereas every other issue- immigration, workers rights, anti-imperialism, affordable urban design and development, minority and indigenous empowerment, income/wealth inequality, corruption in politics (I could keep going) all tie into climate change and the struggle for a viable planet for future generations. As of now she only sees the environmental cause in the abstract as its own issue of singular importance.

I dont understand how sending a 16 year old across the atlantic will help anything when our governments are still heavily lobbied by a bunch of highly polluting industries who refuse to make the necessary changes to their infrasdtructure to facilitate a large scale switch to renewables power for industry. How will rich celebrities telling poor people to not take occasional holidays fix any of this How does one diesel car off the road matter when one container ship has the equivalent impact of 10 million diesel cars and spits out much more harmful particulatesThe entire narrative is warped and we need to approach this from a place of reality. Addressing industrial giants, removing the lobbying base, and moving towards a new industrial revolution powered by clean(er) sources of energyhttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tenmillioncars/logistics-how-1-ship-has-the-same-impact-as-10-million-cars

Governments are congested ineffective systems of power filled by individuals seeking personal power. Industries are power-generating conglomerates which our society is built to funnel money/power into, and is also filled with powerful self-serving individuals. Dont think the relationship between governments and people is anything but a necessary formality.
